Cactus Restaurant

You must experience Cactus while visiting Avellanas! The property has been in the family for generations and some plates are named after family members. The ingredients are fresh and your host sources them with love and care daily. You will love the food, of course, but stay for the relaxing atmosphere, good music, and if your lucky, you'll come away with a new friend like I did. I can't wait for my next trip back to Costa Rica so I can come here again! Thank you!

What an amazing restaurant! Great food, great hosts and beautiful ambiance. Lots of vegetarian options! Albin was amazing. He went out of his way to make something special for my 5 yo since she was being so picky!

WOW!! An incredible experience all around: BEST PLACE EVER! Albin is so wonderful, kind, and talented. The food and drinks exceeding my expectations, so delicious and fresh. My favorite restaurant experience in a long time. The ambiance is cozy. I feel grateful for the experience! Small spot, don't expect a rushed service, come to slowly soak it all in. I hope to come back soon!

We enjoyed our breakfast/brunch three mornings during our trip to Costa Rica. We stayed close by at the Marriott, and the hours open early at 8 am. The smoothies are delicious, there is a variety of breakfast foods, and lunch is available if you prefer even at 8 am! Staff is friendly and welcoming. Our food was made with care and was always delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Fresh, tasty, affordable food! Albin is very nice and welcoming and he knows how to cook. He used to be the head chef at the JW Marriott which is 8 minutes away. The food at the JW is expensive and isn’t great. Cactus has a great menu with lots of cheap, delicious food.

Highly recommended! Very nice menu options (also for vegetarians!) combined with kind staff and cozy set-up.

This is my 3rd time here and it is consistently fresh and so delicious.

Eating area is covered, very clean and inviting! Highly recommend a stop here if you are in the area.

The best food around! Everything is perfect from the food to the drinks, it's like eating with family and great friends. I highly recommend! If you have a large party, call ahead so the can accommodate! We celebrated my son's 30th and my husband's 60th birthday in Costa Rica and this was our favorite place.

Wonderful restaurant!! Hidden gem! We had the quesadillas, Casado (Typical Costa Rican meal) and the Tayuya Dolores (their own creation).
All were excellent. The outside dining area is cute and eclectic and there is a big cactus :)

Authentic Guanacastan dishes cooked perfectly with love. The tortillas were amazing, the omelettes were delicious, and the service was very hospitable. Would definitely return!

A great little place with a cool vibe. The owner/chef was great and told us the stories behind his dishes. We tried his special corn pita which was amazing and the traditional meal of rice and beans for a vegetarian. Was the best rice and beans on our trip. The portions was a little small and the place was superbusy. You know it's good when people are coming for take out and leaving with multiple bags. But save room for the dessert. The Pina flambe was arguably the best part of the meal. It was warm and sweet topped with local ice cream. Highly recommend this place for dinner. We wished we were staying there longer to go back for other meals.

Cactus is one of our favorite restaurants in costa rica! The owner, Albin is AMAZING and so accommodating! If you want authentic Costa Rican food served with good vibes come to Cactus! Enjoy their breakfast before a day of surfing in Avellanas. Get the eggs Benedict, the homemade hollandaise sauce is amazing. Also I had the best ceviche of my life here…do yourself a favor and go to cactus for any meal of the day…you will probably find yourself coming back for more!

This is the best restaurant in the neighborhood! The atmosphere, the food and the service are amazing! There's lots of choice on the menu. We've been here for once now, but we're 1000% sure that we will come back!
