Country Grocer

Beautiful produce presentation! Stocked shelves, friendly customer service. Groceries are expensive on the island but I find country grocer is one of the most price competitive.

Great local market with some really awesome surprises.... parmegiano reggiano at a price that's cheaper than cheddar! Yes, it's the real thing! I'm an Italian chef.....born there and trained to do it the way it's meant to be done, just like my Nonna! I picked up some for friends who'd looked everywhere....but there! They were amazed and delighted!

I finally went here after the change in ownership, I found the store to be clean and stocked, I bought some half off stuff, which is what I love about country grocer also the staff were friendly. I've read some posts saying the prices have gone up, but that's the inflation, due to high gas prices, which is out of their control.

This was the 1st time I've been to Country Grocer & it was noticeably clean & we'll stocked. The staff were helpful & very pleasant. We'll be back.

Absolutely love the custom service @ berkies corner store . Cobble hill !!!. The one in lakecowichan?. Not so much. Unfortunately I don’t shop @ the local store. Poorly ran treat there staff poorly unless you’re family. Customer service zero quality!!. Cheers

Always a good selection of products, items that big box stores don't carry, local products.

For 42 years the 49th has been my favourite grocery store. Some of the staff seem to enjoy their work and I some I have known for many years. Its like visiting friends :-)
Service, produce and butchers have always been been superb.
I'm a little nervous about the change in ownership. I hope that is all that changes.

Nice neighborhood grocery store. They have everything that a grocery store carries. The bakery items, made sushi and in-store deals are the highlights.

Locally owned Store. Friendly staff in-house bakery and any Garden Center. Ample parking very tidy.

Has significantly gone down hill since switching from 49th to country grocer.

The difference between this store and the other one is night and day.
Bright, roomy, more choices and very friendly staff.
I was feeling kind of down when I went in (just came from a funeral) but there was a lady who works there, sorry didn't get her name, she was friendly and just made me feel better.
Will be back for sure, well worth the 45 minutes to get there.

Easy quick access and a fairly good variety.

good location for those in the west part of town and towards Lake Cowichan. Very friendly staff. Not much whole wheat product in the bread or pasta sections which is a shame.

This place has some awesome prices in the meat section, it's my go to place for steak, pork and chicken, probably best prices in Duncan actually.
The bakery is also pretty good, price and taste wise, the cheese focaccia is especially good.
The deli and hot food sections are also nice, there's usually some ham on sale for under 2 dollars per hundred grams, though it seems the hot food is a bit more scarce lately, but when it is there it's pretty decent.
The rest of the store is a bit more pricey than, say, Walmart or superstore for standard groceries however.

I really like the new location. The meat department, bakery and produce are fantastic. Boxed items tend to cost more here so beware.
The staff at this location are very friendly and professional, I'm always treated very well when I'm here. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for high quality food and service!

Edit: The entire chain has been sold to Country Grocer and will be branded as such. Now there is less choice for groceries on Vancouver Island. How incredibly disappointing.

Original review - I very much like this store. One of the better places to shop.

Update Edit: Well we were in the store again today. We bought this and that, the usual grocery items we like. We also bought a single container of Folger's Coffee. We always buy a single container.

Out the door, down to the vehicle and oddly enough, we hear... "Excuse me! Excuse me!" It was the lady who had been our cashier. "How many containers of Folger's did you buy?"; she asked. Well we'd bought the one...

"I charged you for three by accident". "Please come back in and I'll refund you for the other two.". We had not noticed the error either.

Well now, wasn't that nice? Wasn't that honest? This is another reason why we enjoy shopping at this store.

A well laid out grocer with excellent selection and amazing meats. It's such a refreshing change from the big chain stores. I have to mention the wonderful and friendly staff who are very helpful and kind.

This store is sparkling clean - you can see they take pride in their store.

Will only be shopping here from now on!
