Coolest place in Castlemaine! Decked out to look old school, and very cool. The bar is the stand out feature of the room!
Lots of beers on tap to try, and local ciders and spirits, as well as standard spirits at the bar too.
Got two burgers which were delicious!! The beef burger was a highlight for sure.

Small feedback I have:
The chicken burger: the staff asked if we wanted buffalo glaze. The way they asked it made it sound like it was not at an additional cost, but they charged us for it (looking on the menu later, it was there and said it was $1.50, but it wasn’t mentioned near the burgers, it was on the opposite page) but I didn’t like how they didn’t mention that when taking our order. The buffalo glaze was a bit too spicy in my opinion, so I would go without next time anyway.

Regarding the service: the staff didn’t ask when they dropped off the burgers if we needed anything like a knife to cut them or condiments (which they mentioned were free on the menu), after going to the bathroom I saw they had the sauces and knives sitting there, I just feel like the service/care wasn’t up to scratch for a pretty quiet time (4pm on Saturday).

Overall will definitely be back! It was a great burger and cool place to hang out. They also have DJ’s here too which sounds like a lot of fun. Great work love shack!

Love this place, friendly, professional staff with a good knowledge of the brews and bottles. Easy going old school vibe with a decent selection. Have yourself a burger and fries to go with your brew or perhaps a well made cocktail to liven up the evening. DJs help to keep the flow going and on into the night. Mos def my fav watering hole in town. Don't forget to grab a tshirt to be the cool kid on the block. Massive respect to this awesome place.

This place is a VIBE! Such a cool place with great beers and even more delicious food. Honestly, could have eaten the best burger of my life here! Went back numerous times, everything delicious! 🤤

Made the trek out from the city and was definitely worth it! Such a cool fit out, with great attention to detail. Also was keen to try venue only beers!

Popped in on a Saturday afternoon and what a vibe. The place was bumping, great tunes, friendly and fun service and a solid line up of beers👌🏻I had the HCT toastie and it was as good as any I’ve ever had in Melbourne. A must stop when you are in Castlemaine and the highlight of our day🍻

By far the best atmos, craft beer and staff. Try the Aotearoa IPA. NZ hops but Castlemaine brewed. Me loves it.

I love this place.. great service, great beer, great food, great vibe. I live in Melbourne but guarantee I'll take a day trip to go back to this place. It's a gem. Congrats to the owners and staff.

Rolled into the shack when a mate from Melbourne told me best toasties in town. I’ve had some great toasties and these were truly exceptional and worth the drive from Melbourne. Fabulous service, great venue has booths, high seat tables, seating outside and dart board. DJ set for Castlemaine Fringe played a lot of bangers turned into a great night everyone in the bar partied and danced. 10/10 I would bar here again.

Popped in on Sunday arvo and the place was buzzing along beautifully. Cool, retro fit out gives off bowlo / RSL vibes. booth seating, high ceilings. The tunes were excellent and the ambience spot on. They have a large range of beers on tap - made right out the back. The Extra Special Bitter, Brown Ale and red Ale are decent, traditional representations of their respective styles without too much modern 'twist'. The kicker here is the toasties - they are unbelievable! There is a few key options including Reuben, ham + cheese tomato and the winner for us was the tuna melt. It was packed with chunky tartare sauce, pimped up with fresh dill and a hint of jalapeno, melty Jack cheese - delicious!

Cold beers, hot crispy burger patties. Lovely staff, lovely regulars. Well kept, very clean. What more could you ask? 10/10.
My only wish is that I lived close-by!

Fantastic service, delicious beers and killer toasties (Reuben pictured), not to mention a great vibe, have quickly made this my favourite spot in town for a drink after work or a night out with friends.

Great blend of modern yet uncomplicated craft beer. Brewed locally and served fresh in an unpretentious bar with a layer of dinkum RSL vibe. Get yourself and ya mate a cold pot of everything on tap 🍻

Great bar and brewery with matching service and toasties. 10/10 decor and atmosphere. I love a place with different seating configurations to choose from (booths, tables, high tables, bar stools)

Awesome, casual, friendly place with a great local Castlemaine Brown. The service was friendly and atmosphere chill and non pretentious. Also great to see it was very dog friendly.
