This is a fantastic place.
We came in on a cold Saturday evening and the warmth of the welcome and the ambience of wood with industrial touches decor was instantly delightful.
We started at the bar with beers and gins and tonic, and we liked the place so much we stayed for dinner and more drinks afterwards.
The service is exceptional in terms of friendliness and efficiency, and the food was sensational. The affable and attentive staff genuinely want you to have a great drinking and dining experience.
Very highly recommended!!
It's worth driving from Sydney to Canberra just to enjoy Alter Ego.
I'll be back!!

Wonderful experience. Went for a birthday and we all had a great time. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was all delicious, loved the popcorn chicken it's super addictive. Great location and atmosphere and great place for a group hangout to the later night. Excuse my poor photo skills I just wanted to eat.

The interior is gorgeous and like nothing I've seen in Canberra. The Alter Ego concept of 'day and night' and something for everyone really shines through. It's an all-day venue that serves amazing coffee, breakfast, brunch and lunch, and alcoholic beverages during the day. They even have breakfast cocktails! They have a smaller menu that's available in the mid-afternoon and late nights, after dinner. This is a rare find in Canberra with most kitchens usually closing at 9:30pm (if you're lucky)! Their bar is open until late. They also have live music on weekends, two for one plates of dumplings on Monday nights, happy hour from 5-6pm during the week and $5 wine nights on Tuesday nights! It's still a really new venue and hasn't even been open for 3 months yet. Like with any new business, there are always a few bumps in the road to begin with. I've seen a lot of changes since they've opened and I think it's only going to get better! The dumplings are amazing and everything is plated beautifully. Looking forward to going back and trying more!

For Coffee, it is noticed well balanced aromatic roasted coffee bean flavour from taking a sip of a Flat White.

The seafood offering was impressive. I normally love a glass of shiraz but decided to try the Martini as suggested by the bartender. It was a great pairing with the Scallops. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Amazing fit out, super friendly staff. The scallops are the best in Canberra and the same for the calamari. Great to have a quality coffee after your meal rather than the average ones you get at other restaurants. Will be back again soon to test the rest of the menu.

So good. This team were chatty, helpful, and informative. The vibe was great, and even though as I sat I got flight delay notification after flight notification, I still had a nice time hanging out. I got lots of work done and met up with a friend. Will be looking to come back next time I'm in Canberra.

The atmosphere is amazing and the food taste really fresh. The bartender had good banter and made me a cocktail off the menu based off what I like. Impressive venue.

Great atmosphere, friendly, knowledge and competent staff, and nice music. Perfect for date night, or just an after work beverage/snack. Will definitely be coming back.

Alter Ego.. Its been a long time since I've enjoyed a breakfast experience. Experience is the feel you get from opening your door. The fresh ingredients you used is always a winner with me. I'll be back. 5star for the attentive staff too.

Had a wonderful dinner here. Meals were great and fast. Wait staff were friendly. Not too loud and easy to chat with friends. Reasonably priced for the quality of food. Good selection of drinks.

Walked past this cafe with the intention to going somewhere else for breakfast, however the decor of the place captured my attention. Glad I stopped by - great coffee and quite unique options for breakfast. I went with my usual boring order of scrambled egg with chorizo due to time - they certainly didn't disappoint. Also tried one of their muffins that just came out from the oven - what a delight. Great friendly service with smiling faces, especially for a cold Sunday morning. Would recommend this place especially for those who aren't local. I'd be keen to try their lunch and dinner one day - menu looks legit.

This is the best location in town and I'm so glad they got it right! Great mix of casual lunch / coffee mixed with fine dining at night. SO glad they stay open during that 3-6pm time everything else in town seems to shut. People need their afternoon coffee hit! Great food, great selection of eggs Benedict and really like the large doors and windows.
