The Inneston Historic Township is a fantastic experience for anyone interested in South Australia's rich history and natural beauty. The walk takes visitors through the well-preserved town of Inniston, which was once a thriving mining town in the early 1900s.
As you walk through the town, you'll be transported back to the early 20th century, with historic buildings and artifacts offering a glimpse into the town's past. The trail is easy to navigate and takes visitors through the town's streets, past old mining areas and machinery, and into the town's restored buildings.
The highlight of the walk is Lake Inniston, a stunning natural lake surrounded by rolling hills and native vegetation. It's a peaceful and peaceful place, perfect for a picnic or bird watching.
The walk is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and offers a unique and rewarding experience that is as educational as it is enjoyable. Information signs along the way give insight into the history of the town and the natural surroundings of the area.

The Inneston Historic Township Walk was definitely a walk down one of Australia's history chapters. When you get here, there are signs posted everywhere with the history behind every building, history behind every area and so much more.

I believe it would take 3 hours to do the full walk and take in the history behind the town. The lake is a definite must visit if you are visiting and there is also an operational Australia Post!

The carpark is roughly just 3 minutes off the main road and it took around 5 minutes to get to the start of the historic tour.

Follow and join me on my next adventure!

The lake here is amazing, just wanted to jump in and have a swim. No idea if this is allowed or not, didn't see a sign giving any details on that. A couple of older buildings to see with a few descriptions scattered about. Seemed like people live here, no idea if they are on holiday or permanent residents. Saw a lot of broken glass that appeared to be from broken beer bottles though. Perhaps that will be cleaned up. Flies are crazy though, wanted to dust off the old cork hat.

Fascinating history in its ruins.
Emu families are another main attraction.

Great place to have a walk around and take in a bit of Australian history. Well worth a look. Some ruins as well as some restored buildings. You can even stay in some of the restored buildings.

This is the site of the old mining town of Inneston which was primarily a gypsum processing facility. This was our second visit to this location, so we didn't have a detailed look at the ruins, it was more of a "fill in the gaps" visit checking out the spots we didn't get to see on our first visit. The paths are well maintained and very easy to negotiate, wheelchair access shouldn't be an issue and it's mainly flat with very minor inclines here and there. Almost all of the ruins can be entered for a closer look which we definitely recommend. The entrance to the carpark is a short drive down a dirt road which is in good condition. There was a sign near the entrance warning of Bettongs (these look like tiny kangaroos) being in the carpark but sadly we weren't lucky enough to see any. Lots of history here, definitely a must-see spot when you're down that way. The trail is approximately two kilometres but remember to bring drinking water as it can get quite warm during the summer months.

Nice little walk and information trail through the old town. The signs provide an interesting insight into the area and how it use to be.

The trail isn't overly well marked, but that's fine it's difficult to get lost so just wander around and make sure you check everything out.
