Mater Private Hospital Brisbane Neurology

Hi,

I recently had a discectomy here. All I can say is every nurse, cook and cleaner in ward 8 was fantastic! You can not fault them! Even if some where learning still. I don't ask for much when I stay in hospital as I know the system pretty well. But, what I did ask for I basically got within minutes or an answer to whatever question I had.

After coming out of surgery I was so hungry and thirsty because my operation time was 4hrs later than expected but again things happen your in a line your a number. The nurses had found me something even though the kitchen was closed and I had not been put in the system as an over night patient. (Which I didn't care) but just made me feel like I had to bother the nurses when I shouldn't have needed to.

I was told to arrive at 11 and be in by 1 but wasn't in until 4. That hole time no one was in the waiting lounge I was in and I couldn't even have my partner in with me to wait with. (We travelled 3 hrs to get there and she wasn't going home until I was done and out) 😊 would of been nice if there was close support before these things because I was shi TT ING my pants. I never asked why because after that I basically just seen the nurse, changed was asked the normal questions and was left on my own. (P.s my answers never made it down the line)

Also would of been nice if she was directed to a lounge herself in comfort while waiting for me and because she wasn't she sat outside on the cement steal benches that whole time.

1. common courtesy would of been nice for the patients family or supporting person. Ie, long waiting chairs etc if coming from far away and needing to wait to see us after etc direction of those places and maybe some respect. (Front desk lady was very abrupt)

2. It's neurological disorders etc so comfortable chairs would of been nicer to sit in for that long! (When I was the last to go in they actually found a bed for me to lay in because I was in such pain and only seen me because they were starting to turn off the lights and close haha) but that was only about 15 mins of the 6hr wait. I seen 5 people that day get weighed in and have surgery. There was over 20+ chairs a room of recliners and bed I didn't even know about and wasn't asked anything to make sure I was comfy for the wait. So maybe ask the pain level there in and accommodate that for the long wait times.
