Gordonvale Rest Area

Big thanks to the city Council for keeping that area clean and well maintained.
We have spent there couple of nights and we had always somewhere to park, the showers were nice and hot and the toilets clean.

What a fantastic free 72 hour campsite. Toilets and free cold showers, or $2 for 4 minutes of hot water. Facilities to wash dishes, a dump point and plenty of bins that are emptied daily. There are cctv cameras and the police regularly patrol through the campsite, so make sure you obey the rules, which are all very fair. There are some nice walks to do around the campsite and you can easily walk to the pubs and other services in Gordonvale, by following the concrete path across the creek at the back of the campsite. The hotels courtesy bus will also come and pick you up and take you back if you give them a ring. There is one small area next to the red topped bins which is day use only but plenty of campsites and even tents are well catered for. A very popular campsite and rightly so.

A really well setup and clean rest area to spend upto 3 nights. The toilet and shower block is large and there is plenty of shaded parking spots.

The place was surprisingly pretty quiet.

Packed with travellers (thank god the place is pretty big) and saw only 1 or 2 residents.

Reading the bad comments on WikiCamps, I was expecting the worst for rubish all over the place and the dirty toilets.
However, no rubbish everywhere and yes 2 toilets was dirty but 2 were ok.

It was very quiet around 9 and could get a good night of sleep. Same for the second night. We were on on the week days.

There is so many showers (6 total but some are broken ) and water is hot. 2$ to start with, and then adding 1$ each time.

Amazing free space to have some rest and a good cold refreshing shower.
If you drive a few metres up the road you'll find Welsh Pyramid

Great campground $2 showers and facilities very clean

We camped here for 2 nights, with van repairs needed in Cairns. It was fantastic! Clean, quiet ish and really shady. Thankyou QLD local government! In our campervan, we spends lots in towns as we drive and enjoy!

We were desperate for not finding any (paid) available camper site in Cairns on our first night in a van ever. Found this by chance and it was great. Good toilets with showers and many fellow campers.

Great little overnight stop in. Nice easy access from the highway, clean camp area with tidy amenities. Cold showers are free or $1 a minute for hot water. We will be back!

Free campground. Great amenities. Free cold showers, Gold coin for hot ones. No BBQ. Near the highway but still quiet.

Lovely campground. Spacious. Stayed 2 nights to explore the Tablelands, then 3 nights on the way back down while checking out north and south Cairns. Lots of bats in the trees at night. 4 unisex toilets. 5 free showers (2 with consistently good pressure). Hot water showers cost $. Quiet at night. Cleaned daily, but still sometimes lots of bugs in the showers and toilets as it's well lit at night. Would definitely recommend!

I have been here a number of times and it is a great free and clean rest area with new showers and toilets you can stay for 72hrs...Gordonvale is a great spot for coffee and food opshops and a terrific library...i watched the big fight Tim and Jeff at the park view hotel then walked back to camp...the pizza woodfired is the best anywhere $20- 26 dollars...for the seafood amazing yum

Very organised and clean! The cleaning crew comes in every week day and so the bathrooms are great! They have warm showers that work great, but cost $2 in $1 coins so make sure to bring coins 😊 it gets pretty crowded from around 5pm, so, if possible, get there before that so you can get a good spot.

Apart from the local Indigenous hanging around the toilets and day use area most of the day, this is a great little stop over.

Good amenities, showers@1$ hot or cold.
Clean ground s, plenty of shade. (Hot days).
Concrete drive ways, outs the mud.
Some Highway noise, low.
Close to town shops, Gordonvale. Petrol.
Tap water, wash up sink.

Hot showers. Highway is elevated and a tad noisey.
The ranger policed for over stayers ...he was efficient and polite.
