A place you cannot miss when in Coober Pedy. Visitors get a sense of what it is like to be in a mine and can see the tools used. Loads of displays and informative signs throughout the mine. You also get an insight into what it was like to live underground. This place is awesome!

Worth a visit to see how people live and mine underground. It was someone’s real house too once upon a time! It’s a-self guided tour but plenty to see! And read!

Must see if you're in Coober Pedy. Really informative and fun. The man who runs it is a great bloke with a deep understanding of life who I enjoyed talking with as much as I did the tour.

Basically a self guided mine tour and an underground house tour bundled into one. Really fun to explore, interesting history and a lot more authentic feeling compared to the other mine tour open at the time. Just don’t say no to a hard hat like I did.

We did the self-guided tour, my kids loved it being able to walk through the underground mine was really exciting for them.
So much info, and things to look at.
The staff were really friendly and helpful too. Great customer service.

An amazing place that I had to myself. Study the history of opal mining and experience the tunnels for yourself.

Thanks for this wonderful experience. Very informative self guided tour is a must. To see how the early miners had to endure such harsh conditions makes me feel awkward arriving here in my fairly modern caravan and car. Very helpful staff. Good facilities and souvenirs. Oh, and opals too. Thanks.

Totally well worth the visit if you want to see what it was like in the early days of opal mining and how the Miner's managed with cow hide buckets. Very safe underground and well done.

An actual opal mine, now abandoned, has been beautifully maintained. A self guided tour is available ($15 only).
Quite an impressive store with the friendliest owners behind the counter.

We loved the self guided tour at this museum as we prefer to do things at our pace instead of being forced to follow a tour group & have to rush or wait for others - perfect for introverts too! $15 per adult is totally worth it!
Very interesting displays & great set up, safe and nothing to worry about while you’re down there on your own.
You have to go down some stairs at the beginning of the tour then lots of up and down small steps, nothing hard but wear good flat non slippery shoes.
The owner & his partner are very friendly and nice to chat too.
Toilets are outside the museum so if you need it / kids need it you have to go all the way out, best to go before entering the tour.

A good little example of an opal mine, and some underground rooms to a house. Full of historical information and artefacts from the opal mining boom. It also contains some nice bits and bobs about the heritage of Coober Pedy as well.

One of the must see places in Coober Pedy.
