Beautiful and idyllic hideaway. We booked it out as a group. It’s leafy, relaxing, great pool with shade, awesome communal cooking area. The rooms are basic but comfy, clean, fridges, shared bathrooms and nice balconies to relax on. Would be great for families or groups that enjoy nature close to to beach.

I stayed at Samurai Beach Bungalows on new years eve and i loved it!
Such an amazing atmosphere in the middle of the bush!
Nature everywhere.
It was peaceful. The Host, Sandy, was great! Very helpful with a lot of tips for activities and places nearby!
Definitely recommended!!

Really enjoyed staying in this relaxing oasis felt like a home not just a hostel. Beautiful location. Sandy and Mark are lovely so helpful. Loki is a big bonus of the stay! Just make sure you wear bug spray

Stayed over the summer holidays with kids. Both the kids & I absolutely loved it. I don't tend to stay in the same place more than once as I like to explore other locations, but the kids & I absolutely want to come back here! The bungalows were in a rainforest setting, and it felt very private and peaceful (although we did have an empty bungalow next to us, so that might have helped haha). The fairy lights in the trees at night were cute. We even found a secluded-looking clearing to play soccer in.

The communal outdoor kitchen area looked good, although we didn't really use it much.

There was a shared bathroom between us and another bungalow, but we knew that on the booking, and Sandy also contacted me to let me know in case I hadn't been aware.

The pool was really nice, lagoon-style, with lots of deck, partial shade, comfy deck chairs, etc.

I guess the only drawbacks I could say was that there was no cupboard space in the rooms, and that the games shed could do with updating (looked cool, but definitely could do with updating lol). But apart from that I can't complain - the room & bathroom were clean, the bed was pretty comfy, and the windows had a view of rainforest. There was nowhere to sit and eat inside, but that didn't bother us as the covered balcony had plenty of room to sit. We did have to go and buy mozzie repellant though, as us derps forgot rainforest & summer = mozzies.

Sandy was a great host, very accommodating, helpful, and friendly. And shout-out to Loki, who even my dog-scared kid adored and wanted to take home.

Sorry Sandy that I forgot to review till now! But the kids & I will be back someday! :)

We arrived at this beautiful location in Port Stephans and were immediately welcomed by the owner Sandy. Sandy showed us our amazing dorm, which was super clean and even had a little seating area in front - lovely. In the super beautiful bush kitchen we were able to cook nice meals and engaged in lovely chats with other backpackers. If you are seeking for a amazing location, which lets you escape the usual rush, this is it for you. Sandy will make your stay unforgettable with her great recommendations! Definitely recommend going there!

Amazing experience in this jungle-like escape from the busy world. Lovely owners with great advices on the activities that can be done in Port Stephens, including less known ones. The only downside is for people not having a car like us, as the bus frequency is low and walking on the side of the roads is not recommended

this place is amazing! had a group of 19 and we all absolutely loved it. great to have a fridge in every room, comfy beds, adequate cooking facilities (good barbecue and cooktop). loved the games room w/ pool table as well. the mozzies were the only downside so bring repellent. but loved the other wildlife, possums, chickens, a beautiful dog etc. and such a beautiful place to spend a few days. thanks mark & sandy!! we’ll definitely be back one day

I don’t normally write reviews, but this deserves the most best review! Came here with my whole family, we booked out the whole resort for 3 birthdays and it was truely an amazing experience, if anyone sees a spider in the box of the pool room, he’s name is Bert, please don’t kill Bert because he’s really nice, and if you see a chicken that walks out of her pen, she’s Barbra, she’s really nice and friendly, loves watermelon, I posted a photo in the photo section. But yes I would definitely recommend visiting, one of the best holidays I’ve been on

5/5 for everything. Great guy in reception. Great facilities, they are clean and very aesthetic, multiple showers and toilets, in their own area. Great lighting to find ones way around at night without it bothering the atmosphere, done mostly with fairly lights. Who ever built this place clearly put a lot of love and planning into it. The open kitchen area is stunning and awesome. Great communal area where a few ppl can cook at once, and plenty of seating next to it. All pans, bowls/plates and cutlery are supplied, you just have to bring your food. The common communal foods are also supplied like tea and sugar and condiments. A lot of possums live around the kitchen area and will be heard and seen fighting for their territories. The other animals on site all seem to be friendly. Local free range chickens, awesome huge fluffy dog, and i saw a kookaburra who didint mind how close u got. The pool area is also clean and nice. There is also a games room/shed that looks awesome and a good atmosphere. The cabins have plenty of power points which I realllyyy love, one for each bed site. As well as a bar fridge in the room! There is lots of other places to sit and relax so you can be alone and private for the day if you like. Wont feel trapped in one large room with everyone like some backpacker places are like. Everything is spaced out with vegetation between the areas so it feels secluded and away from civilization. This place would be perfect for a small group of friends to have a good weekend to relax at, have a few drinks by the fire, a go in the games shed, and then catch a bus or drive to the beach. Only thing ill like to improve, is the Internet range. Although its free, it doesn't reach the cabins or communal kitchen area, and is only in two small areas, as well as limited reception in some areas for the data u do have :(

What an absolutely delightful place!
This atypical YHA was set amongst lush greenery and amongst koala habitat: Serene, peaceful and almost surreal. We caught the bus there easily (one every hour or so).
Sandy was there to receive us and to make us feel 100% in our home away from home.

My boyfriend and I lived in a private double cabin (1 double bed and 1 double decker bed), sharing a large patio (but with our own table) and 1 toilet with only one more family cabin. There was a male brush turkey outside our room who was building a giant nest – very silly and who made our day(s). The room was very pleasant, spotless and came with a little mounted TV in the corner.

The kitchen comes fully equipped with all the metal goods and condiments you need. Loved its open concept which beckons visits from Mr (Or Mrs) Kookaburra, who will make known how much s/he wants to be your friend – only if you prepare a meal with meat in it.

The other animals we encountered include a friendly resident dog named Bo, and a couple more very happy dogs belonging to a lady who lives on site. There is a pool which was too cold to use but we lay on the deckchairs basking in the sun and happily wolfing down lunch. And there is a games room, filled with everything retro, with a tv and a pool table providing games I was only too happy to lose at.

The star quality must’ve been the small touches (like a small carton of milk in the minibar) AND how clean everything was. From the rooms to the toilets to even the tiniest things like kitchen sponges. The place was immaculate. The longer-term residents there were very lovely and helpful. One of the bikes we rented had a chain come off before we started, so Sandy and another very friendly Samaritan wasted no time in getting it all oiled up, which made me feel terrible bc their hands were covered in grease by the end of it! But they didn’t seem to mind so much and seemed just happy to help. We had such a great time there and can only imagine it being even better in summer!

Lastly, I left my wallet behind and freaked out for a couple of days, but Sandy who eventually found it was the absolute kindest soul and mailed it back with everything intact.

We simply cannot recommend this place enough!

Beautiful stay at this restful retreat. Calvin, Jess, Mark and Sandy (hosts) were so friendly and welcoming...Nothing was too much for them. We stayed in the 'Deluxe Double' room which was so comfortable! Trees, birds, beaches! Wish we had stayed longer - highly recommended!

Everything clean and organized, with nice location, bus stopping in font going to Anna Bay and to Nelson Bay, very friendly and helpful staff, toilets always clean with nice showers, good bunk beds with two power points for each bad, kitchen with all utensils and some extras like coffee, sugar, tea... Really happy with their service and location.

Convenient that the kitchen, showers and rooms are really close and eating outdoors feels great. Swimming pool available and friendly staff. Rooms are perfect as the beds are wood so had a good sleep free of squeaking noises
Excellent value for a place to stay the night

one of the best experiences i have ever had. Sandy and Mark are a wonderful couple who gives you a ressort style stay in a YHA. You cant beat that anywhere. The grounds are an amazing feast for the eyes, the bathrooms and rooms are super clean. The resident pup and birds and animals are a sight to see. The campfire every satruday is a travellers delilght. You get to chit chat with everyone and the shared kitchen has everything you need to cook (except for your food)

Another bonus? If you dont have a car the local bus literally stops outside the resort. MUST MUST MUST STAY!

Different experience in a place surrounded by beaches. Very peaceful, you can really get in touch with nature. Mark was lovely. Although we only stayed one night, we'd love to go back for a longer period.

Awesome hostel in the bush with gorgeous leafy surroundings offering cold and shade in hot days. Clean facilities, large outside kitchen with gas bbq, boys shed with pool table, tv, heaps of books, board games and DVDs free to rent. Outside swimming pool, body boards and bikes for rent. Pizza nights and lots to do in this beautiful area! Not a place for those who don't like animals and can't live without internet as there's poor wi- fi.Bring aerogard!

This place is clean and really cool. It's in the rainforest and has an awesome vibe and nice facilities. Prices are good too. There is a cute big dog and a pool and a game area.
