Tolga Bat Hospital - bookings essential

Very good the bats were pretty cute, unfortunately i haven’t turned into Batman as expected.
Learned a lot about the bats and how they get injured and helped.
The signs out the front was very clear to find the establishment.
Very friendly and welcoming people and the building site is very nice.
The bats looked cute and we got a good look at them from close up.
Highly recommend

We had an amazing tour with Vivvy and learned so much more about bats than we would have expected. Then entire tour is perfectly designed to educate about and built empathy for bats. We wish you all the best in reducing barbed wire and fighting paralysis ticks. 🙏

If you didn't know how utterly important bats are to the ecosystem as a whole, you will do after visiting Jenny's awesome Bat Hospital. This rescue, rehabilitate and release (when possible) sanctuary is a must visit. Its a very well established, professional set up, and Julie and her group of volunteers are clearly very passionate about caring for these endangered mammals. We'll look at all the different bats in an entirely different light and know that they're not blind as....

This place is a must see on your travels,the staff there are fantastic, they explain all about what goes on at the Bat Hospital and you get close up to a variety of different types of bats and they welcome you to take photos.

Highly recommend a visit here where Jenny and her team does an amazing job to rescue and release bats in need! A very informative tour given by Jenny and a volunteer. We enjoyed seeing the bats up close and personal, something we never thought we would ever do. They are such cute little creatures!!

My how we loved this place! I met my first Australian kelpie here, as well as my first of all of the species of bats they have in permanent care. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and they're doing important work. I actually went twice because the group of friends I was traveling couldn't all go on the same day. I got just as much out of it the second time as I did the first because I thought of different questions the second time. You need to call ahead to schedule a visit, but I was lucky and was able call in the morning and hop on a tour the same day.

Absolutely go here if you can. This place does incredible work rehabilitating bats suffering from tick paralysis and bolstering wild populations of some critically endangered species that are essential pollinators for the oldest rainforest in the world. You get to see the bats up close and personal, and they give you lots of time to observe them. They are SO CUTE - especially the baby flying foxes. They share a huge amount of information on bat behavior, diet, etc. It was really an amazing experience and super important for learning about the threats these animals are facing and what people can do to help. You need to call or email in advance to book a tour.

One of the best tours we've taken in quite a while - the hosts are doing a fantastic job of educating visitors about the critical role that native bats play - tour was interesting and educational at the same time - well worth it!

Great opportunity to get close to flying foxes. We learnt heaps about these interesting creatures. Jenny, our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Also there was a lovely dog with us the whole tour. Highly recommended experience if you are around Atherton.

That was amazing. 20$/person - but it’s really a wonderful and important work they do there. You’ll learn everything about bats & they’re so cute. We went without booking but were very lucky that the tour was just about to start.

A must visit, great people. Very informative guide. Up close with all sorts of Bat's. We learnt a great deal about them. Support them for a great job they are doing. Book a tour starting from 3pm.

Excellent tour with Jenny. Very informative and interesting. Loved being up close to the microbats and viewing the spectacled flying foxes in their roosting area. Please remove barbed wire or make it very visible and use fine mesh fruit netting. Thank you 😊

Beautiful hospital and refuge for several bat species. Jenny gave us a wonderful tour and we were able to see several different varieties. Really enjoyed and it’s worth a trip off the beaten path.

This was a fantastic educational experience. We were visiting the area for birds and wildlife observation. Frequently the tourist hotspots are more like petting zoos (for instance the mareeba wallabies). However, this rescue center is not focused on vistor selfies or handling of the bats, instead they are attempting to provide outreach and education on what is causing serious problems for bat colonies and how to help. Really great mission and establishment.

Great experience! We didn't know what to expect from our visit and were surprised how much we learned about bats. Well worth the visit.

If you are staying in Atherton or visiting the Tableland I would throughly recommend a visit to the Bat Hospital. It’s 10-15 minutes drive out of Atherton in the direction of Herberton. It’s not something I’ve thought to do on previous trips to Atherton but did it this time and found it to be very interesting and informative. It’s especially all the more interesting when you hear the story of how they started the hospital and the volunteer efforts that go in to saving, rehabilitating and caring for the bats. Congrats to Jenny and the team on doing something unsung and really worthwhile.
