Shepherds Hut, Innes National Park

Step back in time and rough it a bit in this cozy little stone hut. Clean and simple with one room, 2 sets of bunk beds with comfortable vinyl covered mattresses, rough table and 4 chairs, and a pot belly stove nestled in an old stone fireplace. Tank water is available from a tap inside, with a bucket for a drain, but not for drinking. Long drop toilets are a short walk away in the nearby small campground. No power, no lights, near enough to no mobile reception, so forget the microwave and TV and enjoy candle lit nights listening to the birds and the surf from nearby Shell Beach. Shepherds Hut is a short step up from camping, with rough limestone walls, a bare tin roof and a lime mortar floor. Bring some firewood, a gas stove, some candles and lots of blankets. Bring your own drinking water, and best to bring firewood as local supply may be unreliable. It probably wouldn't get many stars in the usual accommodation rating, but my daughter and I give it 5 stars for the old world experience. It's a remote location without power, and the nearest shop is 25 kms away, but that's all part of the adventure. Great if you want to bush camp in Innes National Park but cant be bothered setting up the tent. We'll be back.

Enjoyed our stay at Shepherds Hut which is at Shell Beach camping area in Innes NP on the York Peninsula. The bunk beds were comfortable, the hut was will lit during the dayvwith a sky light & toilet facilities were available. Walking distance to the beach. Beautiful sunsets.
