We stop here every time we go to our little wonky house in beautiful wet Queenstown. The pies are AMAZEBALLS. Pretty sure they are home made. I brought a fridge magnet I like it THAT much. Straight to the pool room ('The Castle'). No locks on the toilet doors however can be a little awkward experience but things are a bit different in West Coast country, we don't mind things like that. Especially when the PIES are THIS GOOD.

A delightful little cafe in the middle of nowhere. It was a perfect pit stop during our drive from Hobart to Strahan. We stopped here for lunch - there were limited options and not all items on the menu were available, but it was understandable given its remote location. Food was fresh and delicious - grateful to have found the perfect place to dine when our stomachs were growling.

Great place to stop and very fast, friendly service. Breakfast is served until 11, but they will still make you a Bacon and egg roll anytime after 11, as they have Bacon and egg available in their lunch menu burger. They were delish!

We had an amazing lunch and the service was great! The hamburger and chicken burgers were amazing as were the chips! Compliments to the chef! The service was great and everyone was friendly. The restaurant was very clean. So thankful we stopped on the way to The Wall.

we stopped for both fuuel and lunch. Easy. The lunch was quick and the cafe really good, even had a second cup. NEEDS a great big COFFEE FOOD outside to make it more visible. Nearly missed it.

We were in the cafe for lunch and noticed that they were also doing evening meals. I ask the chef what was in the menu, too which was advised that it differs on each night. The night we dined here we had the Pizza and Pork Belly and salad. The cafe is also licensed and very reasonably priced for the remote area it is located. Pizza was very well cooked and taste was excellent. Pork Belly was tender and crispy, salad was a great side as it was a light meal which was also great for my celiac requirements. The outdoor dining on the night was great with the sunny evening. Would definitely return if in the area again.

4.5 * rounded up to 5

Had the best bacon and egg roll of my life here. Also really enjoyed the chips and gravy. The staff were super friendly and the environment was nicely decorated and clean.

Food was well priced and this was one of our best and cheapest meals in Tassie so far.

Only reason I would take half a star is that they were out of most things. That being said it is very rural and I imagine that getting stock can be hard if they have an unexpected busy period. They also apologised for not being able to cater to the whole menu.

I would absolutely stop by again.

Perfect middle rest stop on our road trip from Hobart to Strahan. Food and service are in good quality. Scollop pie is very unique and it’s my highlight.

After a long drive through the forest we stopped at this restaurant for lunch. On 1st January ,the shop was filled with customers. Before ordering itself they mentioned 40 minutes wait time. The food came within 30 minutes and the food tasted very good. Fish and chips are very fresh.

Food here is so good. Thick cut bread with beautiful soup was the go on a cold day.
Staff were great and really friendly. Pie and sausage roll were so good and the perfect addition to our lunch. Hungry Wombat is a great place to stop and well worth it.

Such a pleasant surprise on our way from Strahan to Hobart, the food was the best we had eaten in our 7 days of travel. The coffee was the best I've had in months and the people were amazing and so friendly.

After reading dire reviews about the "legendary pub" down the road, we called into the Hungry Wombat.
Excellent in every regard, great service, nice premises, and the food was fresh and tasty.
Thank you for supplying this standard in a remote location. We'll done!

The only place in the area to get a feed. This little cafe serves your standard foods really well. Staff are friendly and it was a nice little stop onto our next destination.

Stayed away for work and we stopped in and wanted a feed and what did I find a fantastic burger menu 😋 followed with fantastic friendly service. Also was one of the best coffees I’ve ever tasted. Wish I had of taken a photo of my work mates burger. The photo of the cheeseburger I ordered don’t do it justice. 10/10

Delicious food and friendly staff! Great choice as a pit stop to hobart from queenstown. We had the chicken burger, beef burger and toasties. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy and so were the fries!

I'm giving this place 5 stars for a couple of reasons, but primarily because we would have been stranded without, we nearly ran out of fuel and this place had fuel. Also worth noting were the number of people who had stopped to eat there, only proves what a popular joint it is, despite it's remote proximity to everything.

Ordered a couple of sandwiches, coffee and fish n chips for our son. Service was quick and efficient and food was well made and very affordable. Will definitely recommend this place as a pit stop.

Burgers and chips were absolutely great. Exactly what we needed to eat on a cold winter day, and we could even sit in front of the fire to keep warm. Staff were very friendly and even gave us advice about the snowy conditions and what to expect on the drive ahead.
