Another magical area of Tasmania with its wonderful natural splendour. The centre itself is large and staffed with very friendly employees. They are super helpful, as I had but a few hours to explore they suggested which walks I should do in the time I had, and it worked out perfectly. I don't advise doing these walks in the cold harsh winter rain that I did them in, alas we don't control the weather. It was still magical nonetheless, and I would happily visit again regardless of weather. In fact, future plans are to do the overland track starting at this point.

We took the "ferry" with Tegan. Loved it. Tegan is an asset to the business. Skilled and great personality.

Loved the 2 stops. Next time will stay longer.

A fantastic place to visit, at the end of a long onland track that you can enjoy a great rest after a few days walk.

Tranquil and peaceful. Unique architecture. Coffee and toast were great. High speed 500 Mbps Elon Musk’s Starlink Internet available in the cafe.

We only went through the building and into the gift shop we then had lunch which was a chicken burger with chips which was delicious and different. We couldn't see the lake from there to much grass .

What a wonderful place to visit. We were very lucky to have a sunny day when we visited. We were told there’s about five really sunny days every year, so we felt fortunate to see Lake St Clair in the sun.

Great starting point for the Overland Track, with info centre, shop, cafe, toilets etc. Also Lake Cruises available here. Just a short distance from the main road so a good place for a coffee or food break if you're just passing through like we were.

The visitors centre has a cafe and store, information centre on site. There are many different trails you can do when here with great amenities.

One of the final stops of the Overland Track.
You're greeted with a woodfire heater and restaurant, serving a simplified pub menu.
A wonderful space to dry off whilst waiting for any connecting shuttle buses.
There's a leaders board of the top placed trail runners who smash out the track 8 or so hours. Ridiculous.
The actual Visitor Centre has a brief history of the track and various tales of it's inception.

This is the first time I have visited Lake St Clair. The centre has so many interesting information about different tracks, lakes and native animals. Lucky that I had encountered a couple of echidna on the way to the centre. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Arrived half an hour before closing time. Lake & jetty very near to centre. Unfortunately weather was not on our side, otherwise scenery would be perfect

Such an amazing little hub for hikers and explorers. This is the end of the Overland Track during the peak season or can also be the beginning of the track in the off-peak season. There is an info and history centre here as well as a restaurant and camping/ cabin accommodation. Mt Rufus is also accessible from here which is an amazing hike! You can catch the ferry around Lake St Clair too which is a beautiful way to see the lake.

The Visitor Centre is a great hub for a series of lovely walks ranging from short strolls to full day treks. The centre itself has maps, a decent selection of clothing and gifts, and the attached restaurant does breakfast, lunch, ice cream, coffee etc.
Hardcore walks end up here at the end of the Overland Trail from Cradle Mountain, but from the centre there are a series of small walks which you can link up into a beautiful 90 minute circuit of rainforest, rivers, beaches, tall trees, and, if you're fortunate, echidnas and platypus.
The ferry from here will also take you to the far end of the lakes for a 5 hour walk back at the end of the Overland Trail, or, half way to Echo Point for a lovely 3-4 hour walk back along the lake.

Really interesting place to wander through. We spent about 30mins looking at all the pictures and information they had. Then walked around and enjoyed the view of the Lake. Which is only about a 5 min walk on uneven ground though.

Stopped on the way from Queenstown to Hobart. It had snowed heavily the night before and was picturesque, cold and calm and had cleared. Great facilities, cafe, visitors centre and plenty of parking. Overland trail goes to Cradle Mountain 6 days apparently. There are a number of short walks as well as 5 to 7 hour walks. We did the platypus walk about an hour round trip. Very clean and well kept facilities. Must do. Dont forget your National Parks pass. You can buy one there if you dont have one. Great park.

My husband and I completed the Overland track in November 2016. Lake St Clair visitor centre was the perfect celebratory last stop after 6 days camping and hiking the Tasmanian wilderness. Fantastic centre with friendly and helpful staff. We ended up making our own souvenier, Overland track tshirts which are now for sale in the centre! We cannot wait to visit again.

Stayed at the Pump house on the lake. Cycled over to the visitor center for coffee and the lovely assortment of hiking trails. Sone lovely opportunities to learn about Tasmania’s flora, fauna and wildlife.
Please note, this area is higher ( and cooler ) so wear layers - morning’s and evenings especially chilly.

Fantastic information centre with loads of interesting displays, artefacts and information. Great little gift store and very helpful staff to offer information on all the activities in the area.

Very modern interior with comfortable lounge area and kids activities and a lovely view into the bush near the lake.

Lots of parking space including for buses campers and Caravans.
