Sado Japanese Restaurant

This Japanese run restaurant stands out in the area for providing solid authentic Japanese meals. You can get your Japanese classics from sushi and sashimi through to mains and Bento meals with the menu being restaurant grade Japanese rather than common generic quick and easy Japanese. We found the food overall to be up to standard with fresh seafood, traditional sauces and flavours, vibrant Bento boxes, and overall satisfyingly good. The only slight letdown was that the chicken karaage side dish was over fried. Otherwise, it's very good for local authentic Japanese.

The restaurant has a limited amount of seating, which is ample, but it's best to book on busy nights. Takeaways and deliveries are also available.

Absolutely 100% authentic. Super fresh sashimi, very generous serving of miso, delicious gyoza. I could eat there every day! Sorry about the lack of photos. Couldn’t wait to eat!

I’ve had eaten in multiple times and had take away. Each time it has always been excellent. I don’t think I have tried anything on the menu that hasn’t been amazing.

Chicken Kara Age and sushi/sashimi are particular stand outs.

Recommended booking ahead as often limited spare tables.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Claremont, Sado Island serves the most healthy, clean and very creative, delicious Japanese food. Every dish created with dedication and refinement. A weekly favourite for me and my dining companion, Sashimi and accompanying salad and Miso soup is always superbly delicately fresh and delicious. ☑

Wonderful Meal

Mushiyaki chicken (grilled chicken with sesame paste sauce). Came with potato rissole, rice, and fresh salad (salad not in photo) - $30.
Other dish was chicken katsu.
Both tasty and filling.

Food is fantastic. Simple, yet understated and delicious.

Service isn't the best and very surprising, seeing that the chef and operator are of Japanese descent. Having enjoyed great hospitality in Japan, and to experience this at Sado - was quite disappointing. Especially when an effort was made to speak in basic Japanese.

I have never understood this mindset. If hospitality is that difficult - perhaps do something else. A pity because the food was rather enjoyable.

Food was excellent. Sashimi was super fresh and melt in your mouth and also very well priced for the offering. Unfortunately not very kid friendly as no high chairs which was fine but also got the feeling we weren't overly welcome despite the kids being well behaved.
