Dr Anthony Athanasiov

I saw doctor Anthony for a disc problem in 2020 and his immeadiate calm and professional mannerism gave me the confidence to proceed with my first surgery. Doctor Anthony was thorough in explaing my MRI results, organising referals, going over my options and associated risks. Following surgery I was rid of the awful sciatic pain and able to return to normality. Prior to this surgery I could barely lift my foot off the ground, spent weeks unable to get up, months of acute pain being unable to even walk at times.
I had some issues recently and I had no hesitation in contacting Doctor Anthony to sort me out. Doctor Anthony completed a revision surgery promptly which has enabled me to get back on my feet the same day after surgery. Doctor Anthony is always polite, informative and evidentally cares about helping his patients to achieve the best results possible.

I am a 67 year old male and made the decision to surgically correct an approximated 38 degree scoliosis and Kyphosis that was deteriorating at an alarming rate. Dr Athanasiov and Dr Adam Parr tag teamed my surgery along with a 3rd assistant and I am so glad they decided to utilize both surgeons because the surgery end up being 13 1/2 hours. I went into surgery around 8am and Anthony phoned my wife at 11.30pm to tell her the operation was over and it had gone well . Whilst Anthony told me about the pain there was nothing in my wildest dreams that could have helped me believe the pain I was in when I woke up. I spent 6 days in ICU and the care there was amazing and then another 7 days on the orthopaedic ward followed by 10 days in the Rehabilitation Ward at Greenslopes Private Hospital. The in Hospital rehab is a must and if your Private health Insurance allows it take the opportunity spend time there. I am now doing the Hospital Rehab as an outpatient going there Tues and Thurs afternoon for 3 hours each day.
The result to my surgery was 100% and it was achieved by firstly the thorough work up by Anthony and Adam and the skill and dedication of these 2 brilliant surgeons who tried to inform me of all the possible scenarios that could have happened if there had been a complication. Anthony is super conservative and won't agree to operate unless it is totally necessary (life and death) or feels you are a good candidate for the surgery and Adam who is equally amazing but he was my confidence supporter and made feel I was going to receive the best possible treatment . I believe I am around 50mm (2 inches ) taller now but I stand tall and straight which is an amazing feeling after being hunched over for so many years. I would just like to thank Anthony, Adam and their wonderful staff for what I believe was a 100% success. If there was 10 stars I would give them 10 out of 10 for what they have done for me.. Please trust me when I say these Gentlemen are brilliant at what they do and choosing them hands down would be your best ever decision.The surgery was Pelvis to T4 Spinal deformity fusion and correction and the last xray photo was of my spine prior to surgery.

He performed surgery on our young daughter. Technically perfect operation. He pulls together the best team to support him and we knew our daughter was in safe hands. Our daughter now has an amazing result! They know how to perform spinal surgery and you will get the best care at Mater Private Children's Hospital. So grateful we were referred to Dr Athanasiov.

I had spine surgery one week ago and I feel great. Fantastic experience back in Feb 2019 when Dr Athanasiov performed T3-T12 spinal fusion on my 12 year old daughter. Brilliant surgeon with a particularly kind and caring approach. Rang me during the surgery and made me feel reassured. Couldn't have asked for anyone better. Thank you Dr Athanasiov.

It has to be one of the scariest things to be told you need spinal fusion surgery. Well it was lol but after several 1 to 1's with Dr Anthony Athanasiov I felt confident in him and his procedure. I have seen quite a few surgeons in my time and Dr Anthony Athanasiov is very easy to talk to and down to earth unlike some surgeons who don't even listen to you. I really had no option but to get the op done as I was unable to walk by this stage. After the op things went really well and after 4 post op appointments I was signed off. I'm 43 years old and after 6 month post op I'm training for Ironman. I can move just as I could before and 9 months on I have no pain.

My mother had a couple of back ops done by Anthony over the past 5 years. Anthony is professional and an excellent surgeon. He responded to my queries within 24 hours - very impressive for a busy doctor; and patiently explains and clarifies all followups, including scans etc! I would highly recommend Anthony.

Excellent surgeon who shows and explains your condition on the MRI and then runs through what he considers the best course of action to remedy the situation. After my spinal laminectomy operation I was able to start walking without aids the next day and within 4 days was already walking 5 Kms. Its now 3 weeks and pain down legs appears to be gone. Would recommend him to anyone considering a spinal procedure.

After having surgery on my neck and the relief its given me I must thank Anthony for his kind understanding ways and the great job he did I was sooooo frightened heading to surgery and he listened and spoke both to me and my partner with understanding and kindness no question was ignored His PA Micheal was also very kind and helpful before and after surgery WELL DONE TEAM WELL DONE R

lacked care or time. Told me i already had preconceived ideas about what's best for me and his diagnosis didn't even match up with how long I've been experiencing my pain.

The admin is lacking. The phone rings out and you're told to email them; and the staff claim the phone rings "nonstop". But when you're there you can plainly see them using their mobile, checking voice-mail and skipping them, and taking no calls. Terrible way to treat patients whether urgent or not.

Not my kind of dr ,don’t like his mannerism wouldn’t go to him again
