Victoria House

Stepping into Victoria House is stepping into another time. We would easily stayed longer, next to a roaring fire, sipping the port that awaits the guests in the communal room, and read a book.
The best was comfy, the room and bathroom clean and the garden - gorgeous.
Next time we’ll choose a room away from the road. It is not a busy one, we’re just not used to cars at night. We will be back!

If you are looking to treat yourself, this is the place. Loved everything about it. The people who run it do an excellent job, Very friendly with a wealth of local knowledge. It's like staying in a museum. Breakfast was great, room was great & the location was great. would absolutely go back again

The owners where so hospitable went way out of there way to make my partner and myself comfortable if I am ever this way again I will definitely stay here amazing atmosphere

My partner and I stayed 3 nights. It was just as if we were at our home. So much better than a motel room. For heritage accommodation it is up there with the best I have experienced. Not as roomy as stately homes I have stayed at, as this building is an original Guest House, but the rooms are larger than most regional motels. Guest who stay should have an appreciation for heritage accommodation and its history. 170 years of history to enjoy. The warm open fire with a glass of complimentary Sherry and fruit cake in the evening was a delight. Mandy is a terrific host. Attentive to the guest needs. Serves a wonderful breakfast. Maintains a delightful garden for all to enjoy. This one is definitely one our Must Return list.

Historic building with great character and charm. Rooms are really cozy with comfy beds and good amenities. There’s a sitting room that all guests can access, the room is superbly appointed and the ambience is absolutely relaxing and calming … it’s the best room of Victoria House - it has a fireplace, a piano and plenty of seating to have a quite conversation or a nightcap. They serve sherry, port and fruit cake - compliments of the house. There were two buildings back in the day, they’ve been joined by an Atrium and it’s a great little place to read a book, write your diary or in our case plan the itinerary for the trip and make the relevant bookings. The guesthouse is well managed and Mandy is exceptionally helpful.

A step back in time in the loveliest way, we really enjoyed looking at all of the treasures around the Hotel. Beautiful rooms downstairs to relax in and enjoy apart from your own room. Close to everything and the owners Mandy and John are absolutely fabulous, so welcoming and friendly. We really appreciated Mandy being so kind when my husband was feeling a little unwell, telling us there was no need to leave at check out time but just relax and stay as long as he needed to feel better. Great hosts , we wish them well and look forward to returning one day.

Fabulous place to stay! Warm and inviting, great hosts, charming and atmospheric heritage decor, a welcome change form sterile hotel rooms! Mandy does a great breakfast, the household pets are adorable (Lily the sausage dog puppy endlessly entertaining) and the fire is lit every afternoon in a communal lounge where you can chat with other guests or work on your laptop. I stayed as a business guest and I can't recommend it highly enough. Thanks Mandy for a great stay, I'll be back!

Lovely restored 1858 building. Each room as its own special uniqueness. There are two sitting rooms that have their own charm, one with a nice cosy open fire, the other a nice nook for a glass of ?? or a book to read. The breakfast room, where the delicious man sized breakfast is served,( you do have the options to just have continental though) looks out over the pretty garden. Such welcoming accommodation from hosts Mandy & John. I must add I celebrated my 70th birthday there & Mandy went out of her way to organize a friends surprise into our room for me. Sooo nice. On top of all this they have a very cute friendly resident puppy & kitty cat. Also this property is easy walking to many choices of cafes etc. Our plan is to return one day when we are in the area.

A last minute decision to hike around the area over the Easter long weekend was fantastically well-accommodated by Mandy at Victoria House. I called to see if there was vacancy. Mandy was out when I was desperate for a rest, but guided me to locate a key to my room (with my own bath!). Definitely would recommend staying here over a motel in town and will be back again. Their dog Lilly was adorable. Thanks!

Mandy went above and beyond to ensure I had a great stay - thank you! The courtyard was so peaceful and a beautiful spot to spend the morning. Very comfy bed and a great, easy walk to get a coffee nearby.

Perfect place to stay, outstanding welcome and service. Room was delightful and hotel facilities in theme and unique, a fantastic experience. Great location, excellent value.

If you ever get the opportunity to stay in Portland then Victoria House is a must - a highlight of our trip - the moment you walk in - Mandy and John make you feel so welcome - Victoria House is absolutely beautiful - we loved the port and sherry and fruitcake on offer in the sitting room - recommend Mandy’s breakfast as it sets you up for the day 😊 felt very lucky to have stayed there - Pip and John

Place is really clean, near and tidy. The collection of memorabilia’s are really well displayed, so homely.
And the sheets took my breath away... So cosy I just happily snuggled in and woke up renewed !

Amazing. A true Bed & Breakfast experience, complete with a cosy communal dining room & sun room, and amazing breakfast. This is old school service with a smile. A rare thing these days, and should not be missed. We will be back many times.

We stayed three nights at Victoria House and enjoyed Mandy’s hospitality. It’s a comfortable and welcoming place to stay, close to all amenities and attractions and we are looking forward to returning.

A great place to stay. Awesome, interior that absolutely suits the style and age of the building, while at the same time having reliable hot water, heating and cooling! PLUS super friendly and helpful hosts.
