Clock by the Bay

Not being locals to Portland once again I was relying on Google to recommend somewhere nice to visit. The local guides and reviews did not let us down, called the restaurant and booked in at short notice.

Upon entry we were seated quickly and presented with menus. The dining room was bustling as we'd arrived later that standard dining time, once we'd ordered we were offered complimentary bread.

The main meals were exquisite as the photos will tell a story, along with well balanced desserts to finish off the two course meal and end the experience dedicantly.

Beautiful meal and service with a sweet view of the bay. The restaurant was comfortable and the wait staff attentive. Went for the 3 course special, it did not disappoint. Pina coladas were nice and refreshing. Would be great to enjoy the outdoor seating area, something for next time.

We thoroughly enjoy clock by the bay for dinner regularly. Today we tried lunch for the first time since they have started opening up for lunch again and it was sensational. We opted for smaller plates to be able to try different things. Service great as always and we have booked in for our next dinner with some friends in a few weeks. Well worth the cost and can’t wait to try breakfast.

Beautiful food and exceptional service. Couldn't fault Renee (the server) or any of the other staff. The arancini balls with wagyu beef, chilli, parmesan and mozzarella were amazing!

Just lovely! Classily located on the high side of the sea front next to the courthouse and library. Beautiful building and decor. Coffee was great and the garlic bread was delicious!

The food was absolutely divine. Great menu. Friendly service.

A little noisy inside for lunch, we could have sat outside. Food was very tasty and a decent price.

Beautiful friendly place, very clean, yummy food selections, good prices, friendly service & warm atmosphere.

This is a great place for dinner. We had the beef Wellington, a daily special that is sublime, and the beef cheek with gnocchi. These were our main courses. Starters were abalone salad and a beetroot risotto.
Delightful friendly owner. Impeccable service with good wine list and excellent value for money 2 or 3 course set menus.

Top nosh with lovely vibe and views... OK this little charmer gets a big nod from us. If you follow our few reviews you will see we only offer a review of it's an extremely good or perhaps really poor experience.
Hard working wait person, friendly and professional. Food a knock out with carefully prepared layers of more-ish flavour. The Wagyu Arancini balls were alone worth a drive from afar, seriously!
Simple mains such hot perfectly cooked prawns with leaks, chilli... quality pasta... Mmmm, bottle of NZ Sauv Blanc...
Totally reinventing the lemon meringue pie with a panna cotta hidden joy was a gold finish.
Well done chef of the hour, 'Mel' and team Clock. We will look you up when we breeze through your beautiful town again.

Clock By the Bay is set in what once was the original Portland Post Office. My husband & I were treated to a five course New Years Eve set menu. The food was simply devine, everything beautifully presented & cooked to perfection. We loved the Atlantic salmon & confit tiger prawns; the aged pepper steak with cauliflower cream was heaven! I was only sorry I couldn’t finish desert, a gorgeous apple pie pannacotta. This is hands down the best restaurant experience I’ve ever had. What a gem hidden in Portland. I will be telling everyone back home in Adelaide about Clock By The Bay.... magnificent!!!

A truly fabulous dining experience, from the lady at front of house, the waitress and the kitchen staff, all exceptional. A beautiful meal (I had the fettuccine, my partner had the duck). The front of house lady was so much fun, a laugh, a joke, she knew her wines, she was just sensational. We had a beautiful table overlooking the bay. Congratulations on this. What a wonderful surprise it was to find such a gem in Portland. Staff was friendly, educated and informed. The wine list is generous and well balanced, with some wines only to be chosen by someone who really cares.
The 3 course menu is fairly priced, and although I chose fish, I saw a couple of meat options being served looking fantastic.
Portions were on the bigger side of things, with some guests struggling to eat the main after a generous entry. Not to mention their faces when they saw the dessert.
Congrats to the chef and kitchen staff as they pay attention to detail and you can see them looking around to make sure everyone is having a good time.You are doing a great job.
Atmosphere is calm with acoustic music on.
I paid $80 for the 3 course menu and a very nice glass of wine. Cheap when these days a burger and a craft beer cost you $50.
I will always recommend it and I encourage them to keep up the good work!

One of the best restaurants in town. Great staff, menu and atmosphere. Great for events or a nice night out. Although pricey, I would still really for a night out.

Me and my husband came here for lunch, I got the crumbed fish the best fish I have ever eaten! And then followed by the best cocktails, so everyday on our holiday we ventured back in , the steak my husband got for dinner was mouth watering best steak , also the pork dish was incredible ! And I never order pork ! Seriously can't fault this place , the staff are awesome! So happy and accommodating! The best restaurant in Portland! ❤

Best dining in Town - do not miss it

Travelled down from Melbourne and visited the restaurant last week. Was probably the best fish I have had in 30 years. It was cooked to perfection and the portion size was larger than expected, probably catering for the majority of the country folks!

Clearly the chef is an absolute pro which who is backed up with excellent & friendly service staff and nothing was too much trouble, plus the prices are reasonable.

Looking over some of the reviews, giving them a 4/5 is not fair, this is fine dining in an Aussie country setting and it doesn't get any better than this.

Beautiful ambience with lovely food. Portion sizes are great. Just a note though if you are not a local and you ask for water, they will serve you bottled water and you will be charged (~ $7/bottle) unless you ask for tap water. Because Portland water has a strong taste so they automatically give tourists bottled water.

The best chicken couscous salad I've ever eaten. Amazing.

Fantastic place, great service and amazing food. Couldn't have asked for more.
