Lovely little spot of calm in the buzzy bit of Newtown. We came for the dosas and they were fab, more below.

This isn't a very large restaurant, but it has good food and a relaxed vibe. Will definitely be back.

As a downside, our samosas came out with our meal (odd) and I agree with a previous review that a 10% surcharge on weekends feels excessive when you have one person serving all the tables.

🍽 The dosa comparison. I love a dosa, and options are limited in the inner west. Sri Lankan on Glebe Point Road is good, but their service is hit or miss. Nithik's in Roselle is also good, but skews too fancy for me (I don't need a tablecloth!). I haven't tried Dosa Hut in Strathfield. My masala dosa was good, and at $15 is comparable.

🚘 Parking is always tough in Newtown. If you drive around, you're bound to find street parking somewhere, just keep trying. Best to take public transport.

Large restaurant. Recent renovation: new paint, artwork, menu's and cloth napkins, making it more upscale.
PRICING: Reasonable. Around $20-30 for mains and $10-20 for entree's.
SPACE: With plenty of room to have 50+ people upstairs and they have a stage up there as well, so it could suit large groups, special nights etc.
MENU: The biggest draw card for me are the gluten and vegan options. The vegan veggies mix dish is just like a vegie korma, except coconut cream based and devine! They have a lot of options on their menu.
OF NOTE: There are loads of North Indian restaurants in the area but none that are South Indian. So good to get the dishes like dosai (rice and bean flour based crepes) etc. STAFF: The waitress was very attentive and even kindly closed the doors on the very cold night we were there.

Best butter chicken....I cannot figure the secret recipe but it's smoky and has a perfume...must try. The 10% weekend surcharge is not published and added to bill which is excessive considering they only have one server for all tables.

I had never tried Sri Lankan before, and I'm glad this is where I tried it first. Really humble atmosphere and delicious food. Great service and LARGE quantities.

You should definitely try the eggplant curry, it was my favorite out of a spread of non vegetarian dishes on the table!

Great selection of dishes and reasonable price especially being in Newtown. Really liked how in the menu for every meat there were around 5 different type of curry. Also really love the fact that they served Dosa! Hadn’t had it for years and it looks great too!

The food is really tasty and service was friendly. Best option for vegetarian food if you like Thali or chapathi. A must visit if you are specific about vegetarian.

Delicious Indian food with a variety of different styles and flavors. The place looks very simple but the customer service is lovely and the food is super tasty.

Took a chance and Tried the food here and it turned out to be a very good decision. The food tastes flavourful and authentic. Good big size portions which is more than enough for a person. Value for money. Would definitely return to try this amazing food. Highly recommended!!!!

As the description of the Bhiryani says, this is the “Food of the gods.” It was an Amazing meal. I ate half of a Lamb Bhiryani and half a Beef Rendang. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while.
I ordered through menulog; the estimated wait was 70 minutes but I got the delivery in about 30. It’s quite annoying that menulog’s estimated time is always off because I was doing something. However, regardless I was super happy with this food. Very solid 5/5

I was here this evening.. They have an excellent thali which allows you to sample different unique flavours. I strongly recommend it.

Each dish on the thali was very home-style, making it a truly nostalgic experience.. Loved this restaurant.

Without fail this is one of the best restaurants in Newtown. The dish I get is always top notch.

The Chettinad is my favorite and can't seem to find anywhere else...let alone the ingredients to indulge in this flavoursome spicy phenomena. So I will resort to eat here... now and in the future....
(Maybe get the ingredients from the chef)

Love this place, best masala dosa in Sydney. Also the staff are great and were very friendly with my 1 year old daughter when I took her for dinner. Chicken 65 also worth checking out.

Everything we have ordered from Kammadhenu in the past month since moving to the area has been delicious. Recommend the Chettinad, Rogan Josh and Penang. The Naan is fluffy and the Lamb Saag is the best I’ve had in Sydney. The staff are so friendly which makes the experience all that more enjoyable. Thank you we will be back

Worlds best indian restaurant i have ever visited in Australia, Plz vist onc if you want to have South thali , Non veg thali, and dosa , i meet chef Mukesh and he is well experienced and well knowledgeable for indian food.

Amazing food. We ordered Thali and it was a delicious choice of vegetarian options. Amazing value for money too. The service exveeds expectations and its also BYO for wine. A must eat place.
