Ristorante Il Grifone

With authentic Italian dishes, based around freshly made in-house pasta, Grifone is an amazing escape to Italy through traditional cuisine and friendly service. I had the pleasure of enjoying a three course meal with wines and it was amazing. A 50th birthday dinner could only have three things to accommodate themselves; one is the family that they have which supports his self-esteem and being a family man, two is of course money if you have to and taste food of your own choosing and three... coming to a beautiful restaurant like Il Grifone to give you the high quality of appreciation with Italian food.

Unfortunately, people often sometimes leave bad reviews for the sake of spreading the word, but now I feel that once I visited and ate at Il Grifone, it changed my whole mindset!

We ordered a delicious bunch of bruschettas and garlic breads which had the flavours (and oils) to make your mouth water, next we had the beautiful, light, soft pillow like bowl of Gnocchi which absolutely was beautiful with the tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella.

We also had the Barramundi which was absolutely the best fish we ever dug our mouths into, the seafood spaghetti took the best approach when it comes to combining one Italian dish into one with a plethora of seafood to eat.

The most delicious, most mouthwatering thing of it all... was the beautiful Tiramisu, it had everything that you would expect in a normal birthday cake and turnt it on its head into a beautiful cake.

The last thing I want to say, is that Il Grifone is the best place to go on any occasion, Christmas, Easter, Bastille Day, Anzac Day and all of the holidays in the world can celebrate by visiting and filling up the tables and chairs in Il Grifone.

Spectacular meal. The entrees were simple, mostly just charcuterie, cheese, olives, but the produce was high quality. The fried calamari was delicious, it had a very light batter and was very fresh.
The mains were the star of the show, the lamb was perfectly cooked and expertly seasoned, and the gnocchi was light and fluffy with a beautiful sauce. The side dishes with the mains were pretty basic though, mostly steamed vegetables and roast potatoes.
We were here as part of a function of around 50 and we had the whole place reserved, so of course the service is different to regular dining. The staff were very attentive and friendly, without hovering or being overbearing which is a tough balance to strike.
Overall it was a bit pricy, but for the quality of the food I think it was well worth the money.

I was surprised how other people just gave 1stat or even 2stars for comments.all the dishes we have were tasted good and looks nice as well. The staffs are friendly too. I have to give 5stars for amazing food, thx chefs and the lovely staffs.

Absolutely fantastic every time. Never less than excellence. Delightful, professional staff always give good advice and take good care of you. Roberto cooks with love and great skill. Beautitul view and even when it's very busy it's not too noisy. Delicious food, lovely staff, beautiful atmosphere. Perfect every time.

Lovely service. The waitress was really nice. Made us feel so welcome. Sign in process was simple and easy. Would love to come back again.

Visited on new years day, had the $18 lunch special, yummo!! Enjoyed a bottle of bubbles to celebrate the new year.

My husband and I ate here tonight. The service was grebig at and the food excellent. My husband had squid ink pasta and scallops then the duck both were wonderful. I had calamari then prawns all great. We finished with the pancakes. All the food, service and wine was great. Recommend highly.

To all those that are disgruntled here in reviews the service was impeccable and the food was delicious and very representative of Italy. Seriously dont come back as you are not worthy of this place. I am from victoria and have eaten at many and some of the finest Italian restaurants in the country. The owner Roberto which I was pleased to meet directly was very attentive and well presented in every way. I strongly recommend this restaurant as it easy gains a 8/10 for myself compared to all I have tried. The food was spot on and cooked to perfection. I order a medium cooked lamb cutlets as a test and got precisely that. The spaghetti 'alla chittara' was very delicious and representative of true marina flavour. The prices I'd say could be taken as a little on the costly side, but quality is what you pay for. So well done. I'll be eating there again soon. Bravo Roberto.

One of the best pastas I have had - real home made pasta with simple but naturally tasty flavor. This is what good food and chef is about, not splashing and mixing many different flavors trying to impress but actually it's only good for only once. And very nice tiramisu using biscotti (not sponge cake) ! Nice service too.

As a regular traveller it's great to find such good food when you don't know the city.
Excellent salad and whitebait for entree followed by pasta and desert of the same standard. Georgio our waiter treated us like royalty and happy to say the bill was paisano. I highly erccomend for food, wine, location and service.

We were put off initially by the reviews but went to view the restaurant personally and after meeting and speaking to the owner outside I booked. This is what food tastes like in Italy. If you want Spaghetti Bolognese don't go because they don't sell that here or in Italy unless you go to Restaurant Tourismo in Italy. It may not be the best place for kids whose parents are looking for a zoo but it has the best Italian food anywhere in or near Newcastle. can't wait to return very soon.

The finest calamari dish in town. The atmosphere is romantic and very pleasant! Fantastic night views over the harbour! Believe us, the Italian cuisine is worth the visit.

As a party of 14 we were attentively looked after by Roberto's daughter. The food Roberto and his team cooked was exceptional... the gnocchi was top notch!! Fantastic to go to an authentic Italian restaurant in Newy and leave with a smile. Highly recommended!!!!!

I worked for Roberto briefly many years ago and I can say from personal experience this man has a passion for fine Italian food and this shows in his exquisite and super delicious dishes. Roberto is an amazing Chef and his Italian cuisine has been a favourite of mine since he owned Benvenuti in Darby Street many years ago. I highly recommended the Carpaccio and Sardines both dishes are absolutely devine. Do not judge this Restaurant on spiteful reviews, I suggest trying this Restaurant for yourself and if something is not to your liking speak to Roberto, he is a talented Chef who would gladly accommodate your taste.

It's nice to have some proper authentic Italian food in newcastle. We have been here half a dozen times and the food has always been perfect and the service is impeccable. It's always been friendly and very professional. They have a good knowledge of their wines too.

I would recommend the truffle and mushroom parpadelle for entree, lamb shoulder and polenta for main, and panacotta for dessert.

Gave it shot, even with the low rating. Was delighted to find that it was a very authentic Italian experience with great food. Definitely worth the stop and don’t be deterred by the small 1st course menu that’s just the way it’s done in this culture.

Tonight we had dinner at this wonderful restaurant, we had a great time. Our waitress and the chef were the best ever. Our meal was delicious and very tasty. We recommend to anyone looking for a wonderful Italian meal.
