The Hughes engine house is a masterpiece of design, the buildings are from a bygone era , with huge block of stone and a comprehensive map which highlights how the engine first looked and what it’s purpose was for. Highly recommend a cost to this historical part of Moonta.

Great family place to visit, best thing about SA is everything is so close! Lots of history and such a pretty place to visit, a top away from the beach!

Who doesn't like history when you're out-n-about faffing around on a motorcycle? Great place to wonder around and soak in what made this country what it is today. A must-see!

This engine house has been partly rebuilt, to a point where you can see what it was, but still see the ruins. It's free to wander round and find different features around it. You can just see the shaft it used to pump, looks pretty deep. For safety reasons you can't go into the Pumphouse itself, I think that may eventually open. Be prepared if it has been raining, the dirt surface you walk on will get pretty slippery. And muddy.

Not much but gives you and idea of the size and other pictures of how it looked in its hay day.

Not a bad old building to explore. Really close to town and externally in good shape. You'll only need a few minutes to see the whole area so just a quick stop.

Spent so many hours exploring Moonta Mines as a kid during the school holidays while staying with my Grandparents. So much history in the area.
Hughes Enginehouse was a classic Cornish Enginehouse and was named after Walter Hughes and built in 1865. 'Australia¹s Little Cornwall' back in the day was the 2nd biggest Sth Australian town outside of Adelaide.
