Seehotel Grüner Baum

We had an amazing lunch experience, the best of our Austrian trip so far. Vicky, our waitress was funny and kept us laughing throughout her excellent recommendations of food. We had the grilled fish with potatoes, vegetable fried rice and pork fillet. It was delicious! The view from the restaurant is spectacular. Since it was cold, we enjoyed our lunch indoors with beautiful views of the lake and mountains. We also stepped out on to the deck after lunch and took some amazing pics.

Incredible would be an understatement to describe the restaurant here. From the moment I walked in, I was happily greeted and seated, even though I did not have a reservation. They even gave me a blanket due to the cold weather. The food was phenomenal and came out quickly. However, my waitress, Larisa, was the highlight of my experience. She was so kind and helpful, gave great recommendations, and she did it all with a smile. She was willing and happy to help me when I requested to quickly interview her for a project I was doing too. She is the embodiment of great customer service! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area; great food, excellent service—what more could you ask for?

Thank you for your generosity in accommodating us, despite the busy atmosphere and limited space for new guests in restaurant. Your kind gesture meant a lot as we dealt with a crying baby in the cold weather. The staff's warmth and friendliness made our short stay truly enjoyable. We highly recommend your establishment.

Did not stay at hotel, but heard many good things about the restaurant. It did not disappoint! The food was magnificent. I was greeted by my server, Victoria. She made me feel like family. I asked her for recommendations on white wine and dessert. The white made for the hotel specially was light, airy and flavorful. The beef consume with dumplings was perfect for the cold night. The pork with warm tomato and spaetzel could have been some of the best pork I've ever had. Victoria recommended the ice cream ball with apricot inside and dusted with hazelnut outside. WOW! I will be dreaming of this dessert when I'm back home in NYC. The only thing better than the food was the warm and gracious Austrian hospitality shown by Victoria and Laila. Best meal in Hallstatt thus far!

Very nice food at the hotel restaurant. The waitress spoke Romanian and helped us a lot with choices, portions not very big but tasty, one thing not recommended is the truffled pasta, tasted la scrambled eggs, other than that all very tasty

Came here just for the food and was satisfy. We did not get to sit in main dining room where the panoramic view is but was happy with the experience anyway. Service was fast and friendly - we were shocked that our entree came out in just slightly over 10 minutes and was delicious. Especially enjoy that there were chicken and pork option for schnitzel as the rest of my family dont eat beef.

This is one of the few restaurant in Hallstatt that take credit card and with free wifi and clean bathroom, make this place a good stop for visitor looking for a wind down experience from long day.

Absolutely beautiful.. 10/10 all round for location, accommodation, staff .. well done to all .. located just 1minute walk straight off the ferry .. we stayed on the 3rd floor overlooking the market place .. our balcony was amazing .. room was very quiet with view also up to the sky tower .. cannot fault a thing 🙏

This review is for the restaurant, not the hotel. We didn’t wait for a long time to have our seats (we didn't have a table reservation). The staffs were polite and helpful. We also like our food and drink. The view of this restaurant is great, I love to see those swans and the lake view!

This is a wonderful hotel on the central square in Hallstat, right on the lake shore. The views of the lake and mountains from our room (202) are great. The room is very clean and comfortable. And the staff are really pleasant and helpful.

Amazing food! The best lime risotto in the world even though just a side dish to the fish. Great service great location - 5 stars!

Without a doubt the coolest location I’ve ever been. The hotel was also incredible with great room, phenomenal views, and perfect service. The restaurant on site is delicious, affordable, and well worth dining at if you’re staying in Hallstatt.

Overall a great experience. Would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hallstatt. My only complaint is that we didn’t stay longer!

Great accomodations. Beautiful view. The restaurant is good with a great view. Try the apricot balls. Hallstat is overrun with rude tourists. So I'd recommend going in the off season. Also be polite and respect the locals and their property. It's not a movie set.

I ask in Bad Goisern where to eat in Hallstatt and they say, Seehotel Grüner Baum. I ask in Obertraun where to eat in Obertraun, and they say Seehotel Grüner Baum in Hallstatt! So, I went there two nights in a row. Was fabulous! The first night I had their take on the Caprese Salad. It was served with these beautifully shall I say half smash tomatoes and rocket! Very original. The main was a kind of Austrian dumpling served with a porcini mushroom cream sauce, excellent! The 2nd night I had the Hallstatt fish soup as the starter and a fresh caught char as the main. With these, simplicity is the heart of fine cuisine. Perfectly prepared, crisp but tender. All the recommended wine pairings were en pointe. The location is among the best on Earth.

Review is for the restaurant only as I didn't stay in the hotel. We went in fairly close to close (dinner), we speak English only, and the wait staff was incredibly polite. We never felt rushed, and the food was actually very good, much better than i was expecting for somewhere right in the heart of a tourist area. They are one of the few places in the town proper that's open for dinner, so that alone makes it worth recommending. The menu has a page of "traditional Austrian" dishes, order off that, get some Austrian wine, and you'll no doubt have an enjoyable experience.

Possibly the best location in Hallstatt.
Restaurant right on the water was a bonus. No secure storage for our bags available on the day we left. Our room was amazing with a huge outside deck.

The ambience was amazing!! It was wonderful dining outside, the views were superb. Service was good and the waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. The food was great! A wonderful dining experience.

The restaurant is not facing the main street of the village, but directly the lake explaining the more peacefull atmosphere.

The restaurant is quite nice overall considering service, food and atmosphere. The staff is especially friendly!

Stayed during October 2022. It was a surprise room upgrade to Double Room with a balcony to the lake. Room was spacious & clean, double bed was very comfortable, bathroom come with many amenities, bath tub and hot shower. Others facilities included in the room such as TV, coffee makers.

The highlight of the room should be the balcony with the grand lake view which is most unforgettable during this stay. Absolutely perfect view, peaceful and calm. Most important is I can enjoy the view without the tourist crowd. Simply wonderful!

I booked a single room for 1 night and they upgraded me to a superior double room for free.
The room was very nice.

The restaurant is one of the best I’ve tried in Europe so far.
(I am from India and I live in Melbourne, both places have some of the best food in the world so my standards are pretty high. Europe disappointed me for a week straight until I came to Hallstatt)

I highly recommend staying here for a night as the town turns magical after the crowds leave.
