Breathtaking views! Lives up to its name, fairytale village. Had ample time to take in those spectacular views. So peaceful surroundings with lake water so clean enough to see fishes. Cute colourful houses with tiny doors. Had two churches and a centre square.
If you're not afraid of heights. One must not miss out on the views from skywalk when visiting Hallstatt. So peaceful away from city centre. Only one is available and ticket scan is needed both ways so do not lose them. Do book the tickets in advance.

This place has been hyped up by many and it is not a surprise why this is so.

In terms of natural beauty, Hallstatt is amongst the most beautiful cities I have seen in my life having travelled to over 30 countries. It is tucked between a beautiful lake in the front and backed by a majestic mountain at the back. The combination of these natural scenery as well as the colorful traditional houses make this a pleasureful sight for my eyes.

The sight aside, I had the feeling that the entire place is very touristy as I saw scores of tourist buses coming and departing. The prices there also reflect this.

Parking is also extremely scarce. I had to park my vehicle 2km away from town and spent at last 1 hour walking to/fro the carpark.

Despite the above, I rate this a 5 entirely due to the scenery. The above comments are written so that future visitors would do well to taper their expectations and will be able to fully enjoy the place. Wander around town and enjoy the colors. Snap post card quality pictures and share them to your social media. Your friends will be extremely envious.

Picturesque views of Hallstatt! It can get busy but space for about 10-15 picture takers at once so decent sized. It’s a 15-20 minute walk from near the salt mine, mostly flat though a small incline right before the viewpoint. Do be aware of cars though as there are vehicles that go on this semi-narrow street.

Very beautiful, cute and romantic city. Really stunning views lake. It's quite swampy due to snow. In my idea, autumn should be good timing to visit which weather is not so cold. So you can strolling around and sit down near the lake and enjoy the view.

A beautiful and iconic spot to take in the view of Halstatt. It’s easy to see why this town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and why so many come here when they visit Austria. The photo spot may be busy but it’s well worth it for the views. It’s also less than five minutes of walking from the dock where the ferry drops you off.

I was here on Sunday around 9 a.m. (Maybe the best time bc not so crowded). The weather is so perfect with sun and cloud. U can go here by bus or boat (if u catch the train, so the boat is the good choice). I just had 1 day, so I can not go to other places, but just for having a look at the small town is enough. If u like hiking, u can have a short walk to see the waterfall and remember to look at the weather to make sure that u have a good trip.

Worth the drive out for the day. The view point is free, and the views are really amazing. There are a lot of tourists coming through with busses. I would recommend coming early morning if you want more "space" to take photos and roam around.

Great picture location, BUT ACCESSIBLE ONLY BY FOOT FROM DOWNTOWN.
Don't even look for ways to get there by car. We spent good 50 min driving back and forth through city entering tunnels in order to find a way to get closer to the sight.
Park in one of the downtown parking lots (we parked by the Salt mine one) and explore by foot. It's not too far, definitely worth the walking to as there are picturisque houses on the way and many souvenirs stores/dinings.

Halstatt is right out of a fairy tale. Such a small town nestled into a mountainside. They have taps you can drink water from that come out of the mountain itself. All of the buildings are very cool and look like they belong in Norway or something. Great place to visit but a few hours outside of Vienna.

Unfortunately the village is now way too popular.
Very pretty, but in mid winter, overrun by tourists.
The locals, judging by numerous signs, are not that enamoured by the noisy antics of a few.

October is the best month to visit Hallstatt great weather less people and beautiful colors of the city and views, this is one of the most beautiful cities I have had the pleasure of visiting. Tucked away amidst the mountains, lays this quaint town. During my two days trip here, the weather displayed a gloomy overcast sky, creating a unique and atmospheric ambiance that added an extra layer of mystery and tranquility to the experience.

An amazing historic town in Austria, it is worth the day trip (approx 3 1/2 drive from Vienna) there is plenty to do here including Lunch over the lake and underground salt mines. Do yourself a favour and check it out.

You need a whole day to get here, we travel with a bus tour. We left Vienna at 7:00 am from Opera House and we travel 4 hours one way (with a 45-minute motorway

Induggest go straight to Funicular ride which cost 22 euro each passenger-return. It is available every 15 mins. we just lucky we went there during weekdays and not long queue. A must do to capture this magnificent view.

There is a small town with restaurants, souvenir shops, cute small hotels, and a boat ride (no clue how much)

Please be mindful of the following:

- Bring CASH
- Toilet is 1 euro to get inside for each user. Make sure you have plenty of coins!

Postcard view like others said. I came twice, around 3pm and 1pm on the next day. I would say the best time to come here is the morning as you can and maybe around 3-5pm so you can have both sunny view and light view.

You can go Hallstatt by Train + Ferry and Bus. If you want to reach this spot quickly, I would recommend to use Train + Ferry but please bear in mind to keep yourself up to date to the Train schedule.

Been there in winter. Hallstatt is one of the most beautiful places in Austria, going there while it is snowing is highly recommended. Also a cup of Punch mit Rum or Glühwein is ideal while you walk across town.

Nestled amidst the spectacular Salzkammergut region, Hallstatt is a picturesque village renowned for its breathtaking alpine scenery, charming architecture, and rich history dating back to prehistoric times. Surrounded by the Dachstein mountains and overlooking the serene Hallstätter See (Lake Hallstatt), this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers visitors a glimpse into Austria's enchanting past, with opportunities for leisurely walks, exploration of salt mines, and immersive cultural experiences.

To avoid crowds, plan your visit during the early morning or late afternoon. Take a boat ride on the lake for stunning panoramic views, and don't miss the Hallstatt Skywalk for a mesmerizing vantage point above the village.

The most Instagram inspirational place in upper austria. Well i thought it's not that special but believe me no matter what the weather it's as awesome as you 😊. The train station is nearby but you need to take the ferry to reach the Hallstatt town (cost around 3.5 euro). You can purchase the tickets online with various offers like visiting dachstein mountains/ salt mine. People often come there around August-October.
