This cave is an absolute gem in the Ha Long Bay cruise trip. The entire cave is very big and you have to walk a lot. So, if you start you cannot go back. The entire trip was very exciting as there are lots of formations and patterns that are being formed in the cave. There are some narrow passages along the cave, but its manageable. The trick is to stick with your tour guide as he explains various parts of the cave. Also, you will get a beautiful view of the Bay from the top, near the exit. Overall it is very beautiful and exciting.

This was part of my day tour of Ha Long bay. The Sung Sot cave was the highlight of the tour. The cave entrance is located at almost the top of the hill in the sea. There is a bit of climbing to the entrance. There is proper stairs and railings, so it is quite safe. The cave is large with many chambers. At the beginning of the cave trail, there is a small opening which requires some crawling effort in a tight space. However, it is not difficult crawl and within a few seconds, you will be at the end the crawl. It is worth to do this crawl. If you do not want to do this crawl there is another entrance to reach the same chamber.

The cave is well light and do stay close with your tour guide who will explain some the interesting sights within the caves.

It is popular spot to go and there will be many tourists. So, you will have to wait to queue to enter the cave or crawl through the small gap in the wall like I mentioned earlier.

It was truly a surprise! Nowhere we could even imagine the scale and beauty of it. It's not a climb like the ti top island viewpoint. It's much easier and nicer. The cave is sheer awesomeness of creation. I have been to some similar caves earlier, but the stalactites are massive - they look like holding up the ceiling. It is November so crowded, but you will get enough chances, though short, be on your own and bathe in that scale. It is usually the last stop for the day cruises and offers a fantastic opportunity to look at the setting dun from the boat docking place. My advice... you can miss the ti top island, but don't miss this one.

Lovely boat ride to start the day to Sung Sot Cave which is also known as Surprise Cave, with impressive natural formations and spacious chambers full of impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Great way to spend a day enjoying both the cave and the boat ride on Halong Bay.

This place was easily the cherry on top of our halong bay cruise itinerary. Was mesmerised by the intricate patterns and structures inside this cave. So beautiful! It was not too crowded when we visited but I think it does get crowded given it’s a must visit spot.

We came here on the first day of Tet. The weather was perfect. It's not too cold or too hot. After climbing up several flights of stairs, there is amazing cave to be seen. It's quite crowded that day. Thankfully, it's one way cave, you come in on one entrance and exit another one.

Let's just say, I was not expecting that! This cave is literally a surprise! I could not believe how big it is and they have it lit up the whole way! What an awesome place to visit if you are going to explore the bay! Highly recommend a visit here if you like caves! Never feel too claustrophobic aside from a couple little hallways but those are few and far between. The cave is just that massive! There are lots of stairs if you struggle with those but my mother in law who has a bad knee was able to navigate the cave okay!

Highly recommended.
Absolutely gorgeous, a must visit when visiting Hanoi/Vietnam.

This was part of my day long tour of Ha Long Bay. Sung Sot / Surprise Cave was the highlight of the tour. The entrance to the cave is located at the top of the cliff almost by the sea. There is a bit of a climb to the entrance. There are proper stairs and railings, so it is quite safe. The cave is large with many chambers. After entering the cave, you will go to the world of fantasy, thinking about the people of the previous era, how they lived in the cave?

The cave is quite light and stay close with your tour guide who will explain some interesting sights inside the cave. At the end of the cave, Mithali of Sagar Pahar on top of the hill seemed to me the most spectacular.

It is a popular place and there will be many tourists. So, you have to wait to queue or wait patiently to enter the cave because you can't rush here.

Booked a tour and set off around 9:30 in the morning. The perfect time to tour as it was much more quiet and less tourists. The surprise cave was wonderful, it kept getting bigger and bigger the more we walked in. There were some small gaps to squeeze through which made it even more fun! A few steps to climb up and down but not too difficult at all. Would recommend

Amazing place to visit! Definitely give this cave a go if you are in Halong Bay. The cave consists of three caverns with the third one being the largest at almost 7,000 square metres. There are many stalagmite and stalactite features around the cave that look like tortoises, dragons and monkeys if you imagine hard enough.

Not for the faint hearted as it is quite a trek to get in and out. My wife and my self done it as a package deal on one of the websites prior to arriving in Vietnam. (Getyourguide app) the cave has three chambers each getting bigger as you travel through the cave. Highly recommend a must do if you’re visiting Vietnam.

Magnificent view here. But for those who have problems with the knee it is not recommended as it is going to have a few steps up and down. But it's just a leisure walk.

There are people who sell souvenir and drink also.

As the name “Sửng sốt” (Amazed/Shocking), the cave will bring you the most amazing scene. With the beauty of nature, the cave has a big contribution for the title “One of 7 natural wonders of the world” of Ha Long Bay. It is one of the must-visit location in Ha Long Bay

The Surprise cave in Ha Long Bay truly stands out as the premier attraction in the entire area. The name "Surprise" is absolutely fitting, as you'll be continually amazed by what you discover in chamber after chamber. The immense chamber deep within the cave is nothing short of breathtaking, featuring an indoor waterfall and a plethora of unique limestone formations. While it can be bustling with visitors at the entrance, the awe-inspiring beauty within makes it all worthwhile.

an awe-inspiring natural wonder, the stunning limestone formations and vibrant caves left me speechless. This is my first experience entering dry cave, super huge💛 completely mesmerised!
A guided tour included in day cruise package that was not only informative but also perfectly paced, allowing us to savor every moment 👌
Recommend!

The stunning stalactites and stalagmites, illuminated by strategically placed lightings and created an otherworldly atmosphere.

It's a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers.
My visit to Hung Sung Sot was unforgettable!

There are about 150 steps up and 150 steps down. If you can make those steps you will not regret. Highly recommend for anyone one who is 0 to 110 years old. Enjoy!

Surprise Cave is part of the Ha long bay Itinerary may it be day tour or overnight cruise. The cave has a lot of stories and history. The hike to the entrance and all through out the journey suites all ages; the pathways are paved, the cave is well lit.
