Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon

Having been in Saigon for over 10 years, every time passing by here, I have always admired it.
However, today I had a special opportunity to visit the interior and attend a ceremony and Christmas event.
It is truly beautiful, blending modern architecture while still preserving the ancient charm over time.

I am thankful that I could attend to English Christmas mass 2023 at the Basilica of Notre Dame in Saigon.
Beautiful choir, beautiful homily and ceremony.

Inside the church is beautiful and outside it’s characteristic red bricks and architecture looks marvelous.

Historic place and a must visit place in Go Chi Minh. Its looks like a small vietnam in one place. You can collect monument and also can send letter to your friends and family. There is a space where people can collect stamp also.

Probably the most noteworthy monument in Saigon, built in 1880. It keeps its French style architecture of that time. Definitely a must visit during traveling around the city.

Must visit church in ho chi minh city, place was simply awesome and all are nearby locations only. No rush here always, better by walk if possible becoz everywhere parking fee was there along with entry ticket’s.

A Dazzling Christmas Eve at Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon

The Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon stands as a mesmerizing testament to architectural brilliance and historical significance, and my recent visit on Christmas Eve only heightened its allure. The grandeur of this iconic landmark is truly a spectacle to behold, with its impressive façade and intricate details that showcase a blend of French colonial and Gothic architectural styles.

The first thing that strikes you about Notre Dame Cathedral is its awe-inspiring architecture. The twin towers, reaching towards the heavens, are a symbol of the meticulous craftsmanship that went into building this masterpiece. The red bricks used in its construction add a warm and timeless charm to the exterior, creating a striking contrast against the modern backdrop of Ho Chi Minh City.

What made my visit even more enchanting was the cathedral's transformation on Christmas Eve. The entire structure seemed to come alive with a radiant glow, thanks to the festive decorations and twinkling lights that adorned its exterior. The atmosphere was nothing short of magical, as locals and tourists alike gathered to witness the glittering spectacle that unfolded before us.

As I stood in the presence of Notre Dame Cathedral on this special evening, I couldn't help but marvel at the harmonious blend of history and contemporary celebration. The cathedral's significance as a religious and cultural landmark was palpable, and the Christmas decorations added a touch of joy and festivity to the solemnity of the place.

Inside the cathedral, the ambiance was serene, offering a respite from the bustling city outside. The play of light through the stained glass windows created a kaleidoscope of colors, casting a warm and inviting glow over the interior. It was a moment of reflection and appreciation for the rich history encapsulated within these sacred walls.

Truth be told. It would've been nice if it wasn't being renovated. Tried to see for a possible time in which the renovation would be done but it was no where to be found. Should avoid this for now. Date visited during renovation was 12 Dec 2023. Someone update once the renovation is completed please, thanks

One of the Ho Chi Minh City's signature landmarks.

Opened in 1880, it was originally known as the l'Eglise de Saïgon (a.k.a. Church of Saigon).  Most pf the original materials were imported from France.

The choir during masses are amazing  - their performances are guaranteed to give you goosebumps.

PRO TIP:  There is only 1 English Mass on Sundays - it's at 9:30AM.

A beautiful Cathederal in the heart of Saigon. The pictures are from December, 2023. It has been under renovations for about 6 years now and almost completely surrounded be scaffolding. It's still worth a visit especially during the Christmas 🎄 month of December. While you're there visit the historic post office on the other side of the street. There is so much history in this area.

The front of the cathedral is in repair when i visit, but the other side is still awesome. There are pretty flower garden in the front, on the left is wide sidewalk and there are many birds! There also people who sell crunchy mango-ambarella/ataheitte apple and chilli salt nearby with reasonable price! On the right is the post office and book street. This location is a must when you visiting HCMC! (I actually already visit twice🤭). The station for bus tour is also here, but i didnot ride it.

Beautiful cathedral , French architecture, I attended the Sunday morning English Eucharistic service, wonderful choir and lectors , serene and calm atmosphere inside the church although the outside is very noisy ,

It's under maintenance. It would be a great looking church if there is no maintenance going on during my visit. Worth to take a photo, video or TikTok.

Very pretty exterior. Currently under reno so cant go in or see the full exterior but i believe it will be even more breathtaking!

It's currently under restoration and renovation.. hence wouldn't be able to visit.. you can only see the exterior of the building from the outside..

Established by French colonists who initially named it the Church of Saigon, the cathedral was constructed between 1863 and 1880. The name Notre-Dame Cathedral has been used since 1959

Beautiful architecture. Too bad part of it is covered up for construction. Nevertheless us worth visiting

A friend of mine is in the final stages of cancer. He hasn't been to this church for a long time, since it was heavily damaged and had to be repaired. I wish I could do something within my capacity to help people like him fulfill their end-of-life dreams. I was moved to see him praying before the painting of Jesus. I know he believes that a better place is waiting for him. I also hope that he will no longer have to suffer. I am grateful to the church for allowing us to come here and creating a meaningful moment for him.

This cathedral has been in development for quite a few years now and still has yet to be finished but it's amaxing to see the progress through the years. It's in the middle of a beautiful spot by the bus stop and the Mary statue and there is usually many people around admiring the sites.

It s a truly magnificent Christian church, with flawless architecture.

The service was great! Cant wait for the final look once its done with the maintenance! God bless :D
