Giant Penny Grocery

Meat section is great and the employees are the best in the business! I’ve been away for 3 years and the first thing that was asked when I went back was “Where have you been?”

The best meat selection in town. I drive from Concord just to get their meats. This place is truly a landmark in the community. I hope it stays around for more years to come.

I’m from the rural/country parts of NC and I had been looking for stores that carried items that I could easily find at grocery stores back home. Most of the big chain grocers just don’t carry certain things. People had been recommending Giant Penny and I finally went. So glad I did! They have almost all of the items I’m used to seeing back home. The prices are reasonable, meats look fresh and high quality. The produce looked pretty good too.

The store is obviously in an older building and it has that old building smell, but it definitely doesn’t stink. The store is neat and clean. You won’t find tons of a variety of items, but they do have all the staples and, like I said, many of foods I’m used to seeing at the rural/country grocers. Staff is friendly. It is definitely going to be a regular stop for me now.

This is STILL the place to go to get your MEATS! Yes! Prices are up. They are up EVERYWHERE!! But these guys have a HELLA selection....
I've given up on Food Lion on the PLAZA when it comes to meat selection and keeping the cases STOKED!!
Giant Penny hasn't let me down ONCE!!!

Great deals on meat! I love their chicken wings because their small with no steroids & fresh cut! They have a great seasoning selection! I found seasoning I can’t find at a food lion or Walmart! Just don’t buy their Luigi Italian ice. It’s cheaper at Food Lion

I love going to this grocery store. I buy all my meats from there. Also I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. Because I deep dry chicken skin [instead of fatback] & I asked the owner could he get me 10 lbs. Of chicken skin, he got it the same day. Meanwhile the other stores would not help me . This is a great grocery store.. time for my big bag of wings... GIANT PENNY IS GREAT..

Giant Penny is a nice grocery store with a lot of reasonable products. It has a lot of items but not huge variety. It's not too pricey compared to its neighbors.

This store is great. I only shop here for my meats. The meat is fresh and the price is outstanding great low prices!!!! Alway thank you for always having friendly employees they are always willing to help you that is a major plus for me!!!!

I have lived in Charlotte for 11 years and I'm JUST now learning about this place! I love it when I find inexpensive groceries that are of great quality. I bought so many seasonings and they are perfection.

I will have no issue driving 30 minutes to get here, it's so worth it!

Love this place. Reasonable price for meats! Not good for getting anything to make side dishes tho. But the meats and seafood are labeled at reasonable prices... i have a family of 4 and i can get about 4 packs of chicken wings, breast, legs, strips each. About 3 big packs of turkey wings and some fish (croaker, tilapia, etc) for about 100 dollars if not less.

Friendly staff and great customer service. The quality of meat and produce are very fresh and prices are the best in town. They have also remodeled within the past few years. Would highly recommend!!

I love this store and miss it so much since I moved out of state. But whenever I go see family, this is my go-to for groceries especially meats!! The selection is huge and the prices are great, really can’t be beat. Our family does cookouts for the holidays so we buy chicken wings by the case (40lbs). I don’t know where else you can get that much chicken in bulk without regretting your purchase. Also the pork chops and steaks are priced well too. Other reviewers said the pantry items are priced ok but I think they’re priced well too. I pretty much can get everything I need at Giant Penny under my budget. Thank you GP!

Love this place, especially the Turkey Wings, one of the few places in the area that keeps a great stock of All Natural Turkey Wings, my family will continue to shop at your establishment. Employees are always nice, courteous, and very helpful.

They have produce and meats at a reasonable price. They offer good parking and their staff are helpful and willing to help if you need it. They are open with good business hours. I have been going there for over 20 years and they always have meats I like in stock.

What inspired the giant penny to be the name and signage for your business?

This place appears to be a local icon.

My Mom Loves Giant Penny. She lives out of town and she has me to buy her meat at Giant Penny and I take it to her. She says that the wings are the best. The roast are good and tender. I have been shopping for for years. My whole Family Loves Giant Penny.

Ok here is the break down. GIANT Penny. It's big among stores..let me tell you why..Fresh PRODUCE.peppers.Fresh MEATS...like Pork steak and chicken wings all a very reasonable price. Clean store ,phenomenal employees. Even if you get one thing you got to check out The Penny..GIANT PENNY

Great prices on meats and friendly staff. The butcher was very nice and helpful with making sure I received the steaks I wanted. The prices are awesome and they now have a loyal customer for life with me.
