The owner Mark and his staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. And guess what: they actually fish! They actually go out and fish around the L.A., O.C., and S.D. areas regularly! Unlike many other shops where the employees have not been out in years.

Just be warned: this is a saltwater hook-and-line fishing shop only. No fly fishing gear, no trout gear, no freshwater bass gear, no spearfishing, etc. Also no "boat" stuff like flags or anchors, etc.

I have been fishing pretty much my entire life and long range fishing for the past 46 years. I pretty much fish tuna, both big and small so my gear has to be the best.

It seems to me that everybody cares more about the almighty dollar than they do about integrity. They will advise you what to get based on their profit margins and they don’t even know the product well because all they care about is the dollar.
Of all of the tackle places I’ve ever gone to in my life, Mark and Sergei from CharkBait are by far the best! They are honest, they know tackle better than the rest, and their integrity is unquestionable!
I don’t even live in California anymore and I’ve never met them in person but I have spoken with them multiple times over the years. Their prices are fantastic, but the quality of the person far out weighs price to me.
That is where you should go to get your stuff or to get advice!

It’s a cool little shop for big game stuff. The folks that run the counter will tackle talk with you till you run outa time.

I have only ordered online so far, 5 or 6 times, really want to go to the store one of these days but I live 2 hours away.

I have had nothing but great experiences with them as an intermediate but serious saltwater fisherman. Super knowledgeable, super responsive, very good prices, stock all the right and best price/performance gear, sell you what you need and not more.

The best offshore shop, I travel 45 min to well over an hour at times because it's my favorite fishing shop with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. They won't try and talk you into over spending your budget. They are willing to work with special orders and have have some very good prices.

Can't recommend Charkbait enough! They have knowledgeable staff, talk about products on YouTube to help you decide what you need, and have a great price match policy. Buy local and don't think twice about ordering online!

Really cool guys. Do not go anywhere else ! Other fishing shops are over the top snobs and get annoyed if you ask question to learn. The owner has hired the perfect employees, I wish these guys would work for me. Very knowledgeable and Very friendly.
So I walked in never having fished salt water. I bought a pole/reel and they set up the tackle for drifting out at Newport spillway. The took the time to show me the spot, the depth and what bait to use. The entire process was like talking to a good friend. I have since been back and they are still extremely helpful whether or not I purchase anything. Just taking or asking questions about how and where to fish. They don't just want one sale the want to earn your business for years.

Many businesses in Socal could learn from these guys.

I made a 20 minute drive from Long Beach based off of the pictures. Good guys, very helpful. I told them I moved here from Ohio and that all I wanted to do was catch halibut. He sold me hooks and fake worms, and even showed me how to bait the fake worm so that I wouldn’t lose fish as much.

Saved me a couple dollars and told me to go to Walmart and learn the basics and break some gear before I unloaded on their high end stuff. Very appreciative!!

Also showed me a website to use and how to interpret the graphs on it.

Charkbait! is a small but complete saltwater tackle shop focused on long range fishing. They offer the best of the best gear. The stuff that the owner, Mark, would use himself and to me that speaks volumes. If you go on their website the description for most of the products is from the heart. It explains not only the features but why they believe in the product. They also have a youtube channel with many videos featuring products they carry and it gives you a convenient look and info without having to leave the house. The staff is top notch. Not only do they know their stuff, they are easy to talk to, unlike a lot of shops i've been to. It just seems like they care more about you getting what you really need. Thanks for the great experience guys. I will be back whenever I need something.

Amazing store. Just got into using hollowcore braid, and came in to ask about all the different needles and techniques for attaching my leaders. Blake helped us out and even gave us a presentation on how to tie the serve-connections. The customer service at Charkbait is amazing. We drove a little over an hour away to find a place that had the needles for hollow core, and got much more than we were expecting. Will be heading here for future purchases and recommending friends. Amazing tackle store if only I was more local!

Nothing but respect for your services from the fast shipping to the experts giving me great advice when i was asking a million and 1 questions.... I will give no other saltwater takle shops my business... I highly recommend this place stay AWAY from fisherman's landing takle and bait shop they steal from rookie anglers

Went in to buy some supplies and possibly buy a van staal reel. First time surf fishing. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Manager Blake super nice and knowledgeable took time to school me a bit on how to fish from the surf. Definitely be back to purchase my van staal from CharBait. Well worth the drive from Riverside.

Wow these guys are awesome! So i just started fishing again but i forgot how to setup my fishing pole cause i suffer from epilepsy/seizures and my memory is horrible so i just found these guys near me and they were so friendly and they helped me setup my pole and showed me how to set it up and just awesome tips on how to fish i totally recommend these guys this is going to be my fishing store spot 👍

Helpful staff. Good selection of lures, rods, and reels for saltwater fishing. Would not recommend for freshwater fishing.

My first time using "charkbait" online tackle store . The service was great . I ordered four uc rods a avet reel & misc. items. All the rods had to be ordered except one . I was a little worried because I ordered them for a upcoming trip . All my ghetto gear was in disrepair and with out my new gear the trip would be a challenge to say the least. Everything came in perfect condition and in plenty of time . It's a little scary shipping almost $2000 worth of product. But everything came on time in great shape and was hassle free from start to finish. The only hard part for me was hitting the "pay" button . Lol.. I will be using them in the future and would recommend "charkbait" to anyone. And for the complaints about the owner being grumpy and not so nice . It goes with the territory. with age, running a business in calif. and dealing with the public ect.but I would rather deal with a old salty dog with a wealth of knowledge that might bite some times than a nice guy with limited knowledge that make me feel good. Just take it with a grain of salt use them for what there worth and overtime they will learn your name. Doesn't mean they will smile when you come in but at least you can learn from the old dog. jmho
