Always Thinking Computers

I'm submitting this review a few months after I got my laptop fixed at ATC.

People had long been telling me to think about replacing my gaming laptop. I had it in intense use since 2019 and it had just slowed down over time. At some point it just started taking too long to start up and always freezing, I thought it was a goner. Took it to ATC and was given quick and clear instructions on what was wrong with it and complete transparency on the cost (The price was good).
While the laptop was being fixed another issue came to light (its cooling fan was damaged) and they told me right away and asked what would be the best options of addressing it for me and my budget. I really appreciated the transparency and understanding in the process.
The whole process only took a few days and the wait was for ordered parts, the service itself was very quick.

Before I could hardly run games on low graphics on 30 fps. Now everything runs on high graphics on ~100 fps again, and the fan is much more quiet than it was before.

10/10. Helped me with what I needed and the staff is super fast, friendly, and helpful. Highly recommend.

Extremely solid experience at the first computer store I have ever had to go to. Scott is very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. I appreciate a small business like this is still fighting hard considering what they have had to go through the last couple of years. Give it a shot, it’s worth your time. If you are ever thinking about what a computer store should look like-this is it.

I was in the middle of finishing a work project abs my computer decided to stop charging. Went in less than an hour before they closed and he was very quickly able to find and fix the problem at a VERY reasonable price.

I have been dealing with Tim since 2013 when my desktop acquired a few virus's. He did a great job cleaning my desktop of virus's and a few other problems that I was not aware of on the desktop. Since then I have had ATC work on a laptop and another desktop with excellent results.

The work performed by ATC and the way I was treated has led me to purchase 2 desktops, and 2 refurbished laptops during the 11 years dealing with ATC.

I only had one problem with one desktop and turned out to be an issue with a component which the manufacturer who also refused to honor the warranty. Tim repaired the desktop at his expense and we had no other problems.

I hold Tim and ATC with the highest regard after 11 years of having ATC handle all of my computer needs. I highly recommend ATC for any computer diagnostics, repair, and purchases of new or previously owned systems.

I first met Tim and his wife when he/they began Always Thinking Computers nextdoor to one of my Clients.

Over the twenty-some years since, the energy, honesty, humor, directness, and just gung-ho-get-it-done attitude was - and still is - infectious, reassuring, and a downright legendary light in the dark corners of technology mishaps, tech resurrections, and figuring tech out.

I’ve lost count the number of times he has helped me and all the others I’ve referred to him, all of us reporting such amazing positive experiences, such as:

A) A man {D} whose home was a total loss to fire, discovers a damaged hard drive, is nudged to take it to ATC, and Tim helps recover data;

B) A woman {J} whose laptop is attacked by malware, is nudged to physically shut it down, takes it to ATC, and Tim just takes care of this encounter with kind, considerate, informative honesty and integrity. When he discovers more to fix than at first thought, he informs {J}, with {J} reporting to me of being amazed that Tim apologized and explained the why for taking the extra time to do things right. She is now an avid ATC convert.

C) A man {C} being helped to help others with their quirky tech, amazed that such an awesome small business exists in this day of merch metrics and built-in obsolescence. PowerPC? Check. Windows 7? Check . . . . . .

Personal Pet Penache: I always get a kick out of his museum of "antique" tech, a lot of which is reflected in what I see still working out "in the wild."

This was a truly 5-5 experience. He was super helpful and professional and very much so tried to make things as smooth and inexpensive as possible. He worked around my schedule and put me in no rush to pick the computer back up (me being a student and working) as well as gave me new quotients and updates on my PC as it went. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend his work to anyone.

Was super nice when helping me, had a lot of problems with my computer but he did an awesome job in the end and I’m super happy with the way it came out. He even fixed broken parts and gave me parts he had on hand. Will definitely come back here if I have future issues.

Tim takes great care of his customers...even when it hurts. He repaired my iMac; but unfortunately, the reinstalled screen failed. Without hesitation he replaced my screen at his expense ($750!) Now that's commitment.

Unfortunately I didn't catch the employees name, but he was absolutely awesome. I brought my PC in after it busted from trying to upgrade the RAM. He immediately took it and started working on it. Turns out it just needed to be pulled apart and put back together, and voila! All fixed! It took him less than 20 minutes so he didn't even charge me. They have some really cool old PCs around too, it was a bit like walking into a time capsule. Really great business, I'm definitely coming here every time I have something I want upgraded.

The owner of this store was extremely helpful over the phone and even more so in person. He helped me for free to complete a PC build I was working on. They were extremely nice and the store felt welcoming. I will come here again when I need help in the future.

Yes, these guys lack customer service. MAJOR. He's an awkward east coast computer guy, what do you expect? Be prepared for this. Be prepared to lose every conversation on literally everything including the weather. If you can get past this. . . You'll be rewarded with fair pricing, quick service, and honest advice. Go in with a thick skin and low expectations. Your wallet and computer will thank you. From a psychologist turned engineer. . .

Tim was recommended by several friends when I was looking to get my daughters laptop fixed. I was very pleased overall with the service. I liked that he gave me options from the bare minimum I could do to improvements I could make. Also very fast. A lot quicker than I had anticipated. I will use Always Thinking Computers for all my future computer needs and I will recommend them to all my friends.

I had a 12+ year old back up storage drive that had 222gb of archived files and photos. First, I didn’t have the cable to connect to my computer because the drive was so outdated. Tim gave me one of his extras. Next, my power cable was broken. Tim took the time to try one of his, it worked. He let me borrow it! All of this was no charge. During the process he was so (obviously) helpful AND careful about security. I give him my highest recommendation.

I felt the owner was competent and knew what he was doing. He diagnosed my laptop quickly and I found his prices were really good. I did see some of the negative reviews online and I think that is best addressed by saying that this place isn't for everyone. You really have to be tech savvy to check the status of your repair online. Older people probably will find this frustrating and I can understand that. But at the end of the day, for the price I paid I'm very happy with the service and I will use again if needed (let's hope not!)

He's been so kind and helpful. He has helped me find parts at discounted prices. Told me how to get defective parts replaced by the manufacturer. I won't use anyone else again.

Drove from Corvallis after a knowledgeable friend recommended ATC and I'm definitely going to owe my friend a favor for the tip.

Tim at ATC was able to replace the hard drive in my rickety old desktop that I was pretty sure was a goner this morning. He explained everything in plain English and gave me honest recommendations but was also understanding of my budget and helped me make it work without replacing the whole computer. The turn around time was lightning fast and the price was extremely fair. He also removed several programs I never would have known could cause trouble. Huge bonus points for having a QR code that took me straight to the step by step status of the repairs, including copious notes on what he was doing and advice for keeping it working well after taking it home.

Will definitely be back for any future repairs and when this old desktop finally bites it I'll likely buy a replacement from him as well.
