Can’t believe so many bad reviews this place got. I have been here multiple times to buy old games. I have interacted with different staff and they were ALL very friendly. Like even if I am being knit picky , I can’t think of anything bad about this place.

I have been to other games over video games too and they were all good as well.

Friendly staff and every game imaginable for most systems. Whether you’re kicking it old school or like a freshman in college, they are bound to have something you want. I found Rock Band 2 for WII….Yaaaas Queen!!

Austin is very lucky to have Game Over, as many other major metro areas barely have one decent retro video game store, let alone 3 locations of the same fantastic mini-chain that Game Over is. I find this location to be a little more roomy and have slightly better inventory, depending on the visit, than the North Austin location. (I have yet to make the trek to the South Lamar store) Prices are fair for the kind of market this is, and employees are glad to help if you want them to, or you can just leisurely browse on your own. It's so nice to have a real store to walk into to look at a good selection of GBA games, for example, or anything else that you can pretty much only otherwise find online these days. The store is well laid out by console, and it's always fun to just pop in and see what's new. I'm leaving Austin soon, but will try to support them at their online store and will be back whenever I'm in town.

Awesome place! Retro stuff, a lot of used games, great prices (way better than GameStop), and much more. Definitely coming back with my friends sometime!

Great place for retro gaming! Been looking got a drum set but online they are EXPENSIVE! Randomly came in today and lo and behold they had one in the back storage! And for 70$! The male employee that was there was VERY accommodating to make sure the drums worked. Super happy with my experience on July 14, 2020, at around 12:15pm. Definitely need to give him a raise.

I discovered Game Over games in San Antonio about a month ago before moving to Austin. I was so glad they have 3 here in Austin when I moved here! At least once a week I’ll stop by here to see the newest stuff they got and they always have something I’m looking to pick up and try. Everything is priced very reasonably, and what’s more, you get a point for every 10$ of product you purchase. So when I spent $200 I got 20 points, and each point is basically 1$ off of any product in their shop. It’s a great system that keeps me coming back.

I love coming by to see if there’s any new gameboy or DS titles after work. They treat you well and answer all your questions. What a great mini chain of retro video games. Come here for all your retro game needs

Went in yesterday evening with a few of my siblings since we like to stop by when in the area. The lady at the counter was super friendly and had a good attitude towards everyone. When we got in and were looking around there were two guys who looked to be irl twitch streaming and pointing their camera at customers and anyone else in the store. The lady could tell we were uncomfortable and had asked them to leave. They of course tried to start an argument/disagreement with her over it but she kept calm and just got them on their way and out of the store. I enjoyed knowing that there was an employee there who took pride in keeping their customers safe and comfortable. Good job gameover she is awesome.

Update: still glad to come back to this location. The really nice lady was still there and still nice as ever. Me and my friends were greeted at the door along with another swarm of people (guess we brought a crowd) she and this other guy were ontop of their customer service. Greeting people, asking if we needed anything and just an overall pleasure. We walked in when they were in the process of looked like buying something from someone. I wanted to listen in for educational purposes but didn't want to be rude since I've never sold anything before. Both the lady and the guy were professional with the process and nicely explaining/breaking down things for the customers they were doing the buy back for and im glad to see they really do get trades daily. It's nice when employees actually explain or breakdown things for those of us who don't understand. I know this is retail/resell so it's nice to have nice people explain things with such professionalism and kindness. Also I finally got the lady's name! So miss deedee if you see this great job in the things you do. The guy in the blue shirt I couldn't catch his name but sir you also did a great job! I will definitely keep coming back and keep telling my friends and family about this store.

I came in earlier this week. The bearded guy behind the counter immediately acknowledged me and was able to answer all of my questions. The store itself was well kept and organized, and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I'll definitely be coming back here!

I had previously gone to another seller to purchase a video game. The seller would not let me see the disk before purchasing. I had never purchased a used game before so I thought nothing of it. The disk looked like it had previously been owned by wolverine. I had to fight the seller to get a refund.

I had the exact opposite experience at game over.

The lady at the register was nice and more importantly, she let me see the disk (which was pristine) before purchasing.

I will definitely come back.

Before I bought a game, they double checked it for me without being prompted. the game ended up not working so they tried to buff it out- still no dice. They did not make the sale. They obviously have a lot of integrity and it was great to see they keep their customers best interests in mind!!

The guys at the counter know their stuff! And inventory moves fast, so you never know what cool things you'll find! They have regular sales that the email list will notify you about, and they're usually pretty good offers. Buyback prices are meh, but when has a buyback ever had good prices?

We showed up about 5 minutes before closing time.. The gentlemen, Andy, behind the counter was super friendly and patient as we made our decision. He hooked my son up that evening, and for that we Thank you! Awesome spot with an amazing selection of vintage gaming products! We shall return!

I've always had a good experience coming here. I'll admit that their prices are on the high side but not unreasonable. Even their trade in values are reasonable when you bring the desirable titles. You could probably do better on prices for both on eBay but that's a virtual world. Being able to go to a genuine store where you can just browse for that hard to find game, the one that you've lost, or something new you never knew you needed to have is just awesome. Everyone here obviously loves their job and if you come in with a passion for video games you'll be on a first name basis with the staff before you know it. They even offer a short guarantee that it works so test it when you get home. I've had to return one once and they were very helpful. Pretty good service for 20 year old used equipment. Better than any craigslist seller. As long as you're not looking to buy or sell the newest generation this is THE video game store to go to.
