Mixed Bag

My go-to place for gifts for co-workers and care packages. Gifts for everyone from babies to seniors. I appreciate their parking lot in an area where street parking can be difficult to find.

I like this place a lot. It's full of all the things you want but don't need, including great gift ideas. The prices are a little on the high side, but it's in midtown and a local business, so they charge what they need to keep the doors open. They have a lot of wonderfully kitschy things: mugs, magnets, cards and present wrapping stuff, notepads, tongue-in-cheek books and knickknacks, kitchen stuff, pride stuff, kids toys, etc, etc, etc. I took a couple pictures of adorable things I don't need to be spend money on (to share with friends who ask what I want for my birthday).

And yes, they can be touchy about people parking in their parking lot. They have a large parking lot that is never more than half filled in an area where the parking is tight and very scarce. They are next door to a large and very popular barber shop with no parking at all. In fact, none of the thriving restaurants, bars, and shops on that block or across K St have anything but street parking. If they weren't vigilant, their legit customers would never have a place to park and they couldn't make ends meet. So, yeah. Don't go in and buy $2 worth of candy and chat with the lady to try legitimize the fact that you parked there to get Mexican from across the street. The signs are very clear. Parking is only for Mixed Bag customers only.

(FYI: I have never known anyone who owns or works for this business. I just recognize and appreciate a local business that has clearly taken a lot of dedication and sacrifice to still be around for decades... especially a kooky store like this one.)

We stopped in here to browse after eating lunch at Mother's, and it was a delightful surprise! A great selection of gifts, prices were good, and the employees were sooo nice!

I go in just to enjoy all the great gift ideas. Actually did some shopping this week. It is a perfect go to for gifts from a child's toys to kitchen aprons, hats, cards, pictures, Gadgets. Almost any gift.
It reminds me of the older Hallmark stores or a favorite of mine, Anderson Brother's Pharmacy in Town & Country in Carmichael. I can shop for more than I need or enjoy browsing. Both places have awesome helpful staff. Thank you !

Every time I come inside, the layout is different, new items replace old, merchandise is moved around , I love this place. Great for gifts, unusual kitchen supplies, novelty socks, Papyrus greeting cards, toys and games for the kiddos, beautiful bags and scarves for the ladies, the list is endless. Mixed Bag fills a huge void in Midtown for high end yet reasonably priced goods. They've kept their doors open since the 80s, and that speaks for itself. Staff is extremely attentive and knowledgeable - professional and courteous. Come in and spend too much money on stuff you'll love forever.

Love, love, love this place! From the super silly to the sophisticated, they have a great variety of nice, beautiful and fun stuff - at all different price ranges. Very similar to Evangeline's, but a bit more sophisticated.

Very unique store , I visited it 3-4 times over Christmas to get various gifts . They have a huge selection of things you won't find anywhere else ! Absolutely love this store ! The people who run it are so sweet ! Sacramento gem!

One of the best gift shops available. Fantastic area, lots of parking available. Friendly and helpful staff. To many things are available to list, but I can try. There are umbrellas, jewelry, front door mats, bath bombs, socks, pens and men's shaving cream, tons of kid toys, books, educational and fun things made out of wood or loud with batteries. Definitely lots of seasonal decorations. Stop there for any occasion.

Beautiful presentation, loads of interesting gifts. Family style greetings as you enter, very busy with (my guess) many loyal customers. I didn't need to purchase a gift but if I do in the future, I will bring reason (reasons to buy) and a bag. This is clearly an awesome Gift Shop
