Excellent commissary in DMV - take note they are seemingly closed temporarily as of late May 2024. Renovations? Not sure as they haven’t updated their auto phone responses.

This is the best Commissary in the DMV. Easy to get to, smaller so I don’t overbuy ir spend too much time, the produce section is fresh, and of course prices are low and stable. Worth the trip.

Update March 2024 -
I continue to be extremely satisfied with this commissary, it's selection, location and amazing employees.

Update Dec 2023 - Such a wonderful, small town commissary, but with so much variety and selection available with awesome employees that are always helpful!!! Express register cashier was accurate AND expeditious with an awesome gentleman who bagged my groceries excellently!

Update Oct 2023 - Again, clean, organized and friendly with Yvonne at the self checkout especially helpful and quick! Thank you!

I've been going here for over 30 years. I love this commissary! They always have the food I am looking for, both American and international selections. some of the cashiers, other employees, and personnel that bag groceries, are the same ones for as long as I've been coming here. It is always nice to be taken care of by such kind and caring, family-oriented employees.

Still clean, well organized with amazing employees that are kind and helpful!

I wasn’t sure what this commissary would be like after seeing other reviews. But I have never had an issue with empty shelves or finding things. It’s pretty small and typically many retired folks shopping there but a great hidden gem and worth the trip for name brand items. I love the aisle called “Wall of Value” with different sale deals and some bulk packaged items. Always worth a browse. I don’t see much of a bargain on produce so I still get that elsewhere but worth the trip here for dishwasher tabs, toilet paper etc. Lastly my kids love the double seated Race car shopping cart and it’s not obnoxiously huge so that’s a plus!

Well stocked, excellent selection and quality, and very clean. Employees are helpful and professional. The bakery and deli needs to expand to offer more variety.

What’s NOT to like? If eligible, do try. Small but we’ll stocked as far as Defense Commissaries go.

Haven't been there in years and was pleasantly surprised. Commissary was clean, produce laid out neatly looking very fresh. Aisles were clearly marked making shopping easy. Found and got everything I had on my list except for one minor item. I plan to go back again when my pantry looks empty.

It is not the typical location because it is smaller and less product lines. It is great because I am close by and it is good as quick shopping location. You need to know the schedule for when products come in because the shelves can be really empty. 5 stars because of the upkeep of the location.

I can afford my food and paying with Cash app saved me ten percent, lol. Love it isn't busy like other commissaries, where baggers were competing with customers. I never liked a bagger to bag my groceries, it's too expensive for me, every time five dollars, I can't plus when I was in the Army, they sometimes forgot to bag my stuff, and I lost money or had to go back, but mostly lost money. I rather save my money and bag what I buy, that's how it is in Germany too, where I grew up and it's also not normal to me that another adult bags my purchases. I'm not a baby or dyingly old that I cannot handle what I pay for. Also, this is nice and slow in there, and prices are very good. As many things right now, the pandemic jacked the prices up in everything. But I'm grateful as a retiree that I can get my food and stroll.

My favorite because it's a hidden gem. Never too busy. They have a decent produce section. It is not as big as others but I can find the majority of things I need. I really enjoy the customer service. I have been going to this commisary on and off for the last 8 years and never experienced long lines while there.

Maybe there is a new manager or something. But considering its size, the Forest Glen Commissary is great. They maintain a good selection now. I shop at three commissaries in the Washington, DC area. For me, this is entirely satisfactory, and it is closer to my house. So, I come here often and find what I need.

This may not be the biggest or the best commissary in the area, but it's mine! I am very loyal to this commissary. The staff here go above and beyond. Being stationed here for five years now, I've gotten to know many of them on a first name basis. They might not have all the bells and whistles, but they have everything you need at amazing prices. I recommend going in the off pay weeks as prices seem to drop. I recommend this facility to all my soldiers and sailors!

I care for “Moms”… and my Mom is no exception. I was born into an AF Family, worked a career in the Federal Gov’t, and now many years later I’m the primary care for mom.

As a BRAT I’ve been shopping in commissary’s from around the world, Incirlik, Wheelus, Edwards, Izmir, Misawa, Yokota… the list goes on. F.G’s commissary in my expert opinion as a BRAT, stands a little taller and shinier than others in the DC region.

It’s a safer and cleaner experience than I have come to expect, the quality and wide array of rare yet delectable selections from around the world. To the discerning client, their offerings save the time and effort from locating their variety.

Nestled into the rolling hills of Maryland’s Montgomery County, this commissary has a beautiful entrance with sweeping view of the valley.

The staff, over the years I’ve come to observe, are the heartbeat of what is so special. Clearly a team effort of caring individuals. My 90 year old mother is met with genuine smiles.

These values are intrinsically part of the team I’ve come to observe.

It’s been a pleasure shopping for my mother with you all.

I was very pleased with this commissary. I had been going to Fort Meade, as I was very pleased to learn I could access Forest Glen as well.

Of all of the Defense Commissaries in the Washington Metro Area, the Forest Glen Commissary is the best in terms of selections and customer service. From the deli, to the bakery, to produce, to seafood and meats, to checkout and bagging, there is no better (or less expensive) place to do your food shopping. You do have to have a valid DoD ID card to shop in the commissary.

A full size commissary that is little known as a result of its location. It has all the basics and NONE of the jammed isle ways and two mile long check-out lines. The meat dept although somewhat small has a little of everything and very helpful attendants if you have special requests.
