There is always someone there to greet you and guide you to what you’re looking for.. even if you aren’t quite sure what that may be. I’m a McLean resident, and have visited for various hardware needs over many years. I like how they employ students! If they don’t have it, they’ll tell you exactly where to go to find it. Reasonable prices. Knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend.

If given a choice, I will take a locally owned and run operation over a chain, especially a big-box store, so it is wonderful to see a locally run hardware store with this level of service.

Yes, prices will be 10+% higher than a Home Depot or Lowes, but here there are ALWAYS staff greeting you when you come in, inquiring as to what you need, and assisting you in finding what you are looking for. Given the variety of products and the tight shelf space (and therefore inadequate signage), this kind of attention to the customers is a sign of a well-run establishment. May they never succumb!

The entire team at McLean Hardware is always so friendly. I have been buying tools and parts at McLean Hardware for over 10 years. Every time I go there, a member of the staff is *always* ready to help me find whatever I need. It's a great hardware store, the best in my experience.

McLean Hardware is always very friendly, helpful and well stocked. My last visit needed bolt for my 1969 4 barrel Quadrajet Carburetor's AC idle solenoid bracket and they worked with me to find a solution.
That has been the case for toilet repairs and all sorts of things. Thanks MHW.

Have use this hardware store several times really friendly staff clean environment. Prices are a little higher than you would normally expect, but being that this is a family owned hardware store. I’d much rather support them, then spend money at a big box store. They’re always willing to help you find something.

Very helpful folks. I was able to get a special kind of key made here when none of the big box stores could manage it. Only cost me $3. Staff is friendly. Would recommend!

I remember coming to McLean hardware since I was a young kid, and McLean hardware has survived by having good hardware to just about anything you'll ever need for any project around your house. Prices are a little higher than other big retail, but gas prices outway the drive. Just a bunch of good workers, and they try to help everyone. Shop there often, and I'm 60 years old in construction.

This local hardware store has the best customer service imaginable. I walked in for the first time 2 weeks ago to rent a carpet cleaner and was greeted immediately by an associate, while they went off to find what I needed someone else came by to ask if I had been helped. After checkout an associate offered to carry the machine to the car for me. I will definitely shop here instead of home depot whenever possible. I only wish their hours were more convenient as they close at 5pm.

My tow dolly broke while driving on 495. I went to the store trying to find anything that would work to put me back on the road. There I met Junior, who was very creative and helpful. He found a solution to my problem.

This was a nice, small, family-run hardware store. This is the kind you don't see very often anymore, and the owner actually works there. All the staff were young but exceedingly energetic and very helpful. Was nice to see people who seem to really like what they were doing. I was able to get nearly everything I needed for my weird list of items, and everything was reasonably priced. If you're tired of the Big Chain stores, this is a terrific one to go to, well worth the trip.

This is a great place, period. There aren't many independent merchandisers of any kind left but MH goes way beyond that. You can't help noticing that they hire young people, which is unquestionably a great thing. And so, service is exceptional. That's nice, but when you're in a hurry, that's critically important -- and wonderful. (Good luck getting that at Lo----'s or Ho-- De---.) And don't be fooled by the size of the store... Sure, they have all the basic stuff but shelves are packed with goodies you just can't find anywhere else (except online.) So if you need a toilet plunger or a bag of soil, get it here, even if it costs 10% more than at the big box store. 10 years from now, you'll be happy you helped keep this local institution alive. And if you need hard-to-find parts like the e-clips and axle collars I just bought, this is truly the only place!

Have had a fantastic experience every time I come here. The staff is super helpful, and although it's not the size of HD or Lowes, they are always able to find exactly what I need (usually some exotic piece of hardware). Support your local hardware store - these guys are great!!

The best neighborhood hardware store in the area. It is exactly what you think of when you imagine a local hardware store. They have local High School kids who work there helping folks find what they are looking for, remember who you are, and are always open to help you find a solution to your problem. They are without question a leader in the community, and McLean is grateful for them.

Expert and honest advice whether for a 10 cent part or related to a major repair / service is the norm on this family-owned firm with numerous long-term knowledgeable employees.

While not as "cheap" as buying online or at a box home repair store, the quality of service (cordiality, personal attention, expertise, honesty (often pointing out options that lower costs, for example)) makes McLean Hardware a bargain for my DIY projects.

It might be hard to imagine a small town hardware store atmosphere just minutes from the nation's capital. No need to imagine, this is the real thing. Always people waiting at the front to greet you and assist with whatever you need. Whenever possible, I try here first before going to a big box stores or online. Most of the time, they have what I need so I can keep my dollars in the local economy.

Not sure what got into Tom Boner, but I am guessing that "his" is a malicious review, because he has obviously never been to this store. We have been shopping here since 1987 and they are wonderful. There is always someone ready to help you. I have never been disappointed with their selection. The same can't be said of trips to Home Depot. The store isn't that close, so again not sure what "Tom" was referring to.

The prices here are very competitive. I highly recommend this long time McLean business. They are wonderful.
