Lightning Defense Academy

Great beginner course! Instructors are very informative, understanding, and persistent on responsibility as well as making sure you are comfortable in your ability. Even if you know next to nothing they will make sure you are informed and prepared.

The family defense class was excellent. My 11 year old son and I learned so much about gun safety, and my son now has a safe and responsible foundation with guns. Though I lock my gun up, I feel much safer knowing my son respects and knows how to treat guns. We will definitely bring my son to the intermediate kids class and I plan to take the conceal carry class soon.

John and staff are the best! Their Concealed Carry and Home Defense classes were thorough and enjoyable. With their real world examples and attention to detail it made the program easily digestible. Would recommend John and Lighting Defense Academy to anyone!

This CCL class was amazing. I came in with a little bit of knowledge surrounding firearms and law but wow! John is extremely thorough and knowledgeable in every aspect. I left with a lot more knowledge than I was expecting. I highly recommend to anyone, regardless of level. His expertise is worth every dollar and I look forward to being part of other classes! Wow! Me, my wife and brother took a conceal class with John and I’m speechless on how great the class was. Let me start with saying my wife has only shot a gun once in her life. She out shot me and our brother with John’s directions. This class could be extremely boring but John was top notch. His personality and knowledge kept us engaged all 16 hours. Because it was a smaller class he let us shoot his new firearm, which was awesome. He also taught us how to disassemble and clean our own firearms. He let us try in several products from the shop which is super nice. Price is better than anyone else around, not to mention he goes above and beyond for his clients. I can not recommend enough. We will continue to support his store just because he was an instructor who cared. Thanks again.

When looking for a place to take my Conceal and Carry class. I wanted to find a set of instructors that were passionate about this and took this seriously because they are indeed giving you the set of skills to keep you and others safe while handling a firearm. John and his team were beyond GREAT. They ensured no stone was left unturned and all questions were answered. I feel more confident in myself now having taken the course. Thank you so much!

Was looking for a concealed carry class found lightning defense academy on Facebook. Looked at what he was offering I ended up signing up for both ccl and his instructor course. What a great experience, John taught me a lot in both the ccl and instructors course. I would highly recommend his classes. He has a lot of good information. Thanks John.

John was my instructor for my CCL, and he was wonderful. He had a lot of energy, kept us engaged, and was patient for us newbies. Me and my boyfriend had a great time and he treated everyone equally, making sure we were all on the same page. I would recommend this class to my friends!

John is a phenomenal instructor. I took his weekend class for Conceal Carry and Home Defense and he taught everything amazingly well. He made sure everyone including myself knew what the risks were and and made sure everyone was comfortable and I really enjoyed the class. His son was also really helpful by helping me with my form and giving me tips within the class. I would definitely recommend checking his store out and taking a class with him.

I took a conceal and carry class at lightning defense academy and I will recommend John to everyone! He is so kind and makes sure you really understand what he’s teaching you. He takes his time to explain all the technical terms and no question is a stupid question when you are in his class. He cracks some pretty good jokes too to keep things light and fun! His instructors on day two are so sweet and everyone makes you feel like a friend! I never felt out of place or dumb for not knowing something. They are super chill!! CALL JOHN! You will not regret it!

I thank Lightning Defense Academy for providing a great CCL class. I learned a lot and we used live rounds at the range on the second day to do our range portion. The establishment is very professional and John along with other instructors are great!

I recently took the CCL class with John being the instructor and it was so incredible to learn the laws and requirements. John is an outstanding instructor. I highly recommend attending any of his classes and visiting his store!

John and the entire staff at lightning defense due a great job. Instructions are kept simple. CCW class was very informative definatley opened eyes to a great new lifestyle. Highly recommend taking class. Nice job crew.

I took the concealed carry course with John in June, and being the master procrastinator I am, am just now writing this review. As a college student, I think I can say what the difference between a good and bad teacher are. A good teacher is passionate about the topic, knowledgeable, and able to present the same information in a variety of ways to help a wide variety of students understand the topic as they need. John successfully did all of those. He has been in this industry for a long time, provides a unique perspective with a civilian background rather than military or law enforcement to better talk about the ins and outs of being an armed civilian. Although the other perspective is still present because of the other instructors in his employ and being in the industry long enough to hear a variety of perspectives.

John was very personable and an outgoing guy, made great conversation as well. He has a lot of good stories and made the class interesting (I do not have the attention span for 2 back to back 8 hour classes) by integrating some hands on lessons (grips, parts of the firearm, and safety) helped to break up the monotony of the lecture as well.

Overall, this was time and money very well spent. For how inexpensive his classes are, the value he provides is undeniably high. I would most certianly recommend him to friends and family (I already have, in fact) and truly felt prepared for my conceal carry endeavers. I will most likely be booking more classes with him to further my education as well.

John is the owner and I met him a few days ago when I stopped in to buy some ammo and inquire about the CCL renewal class. He is approachable, friendly and definitely someone you would want to learn from. After speaking with him I was convinced that I wanted to learn from him. So I signed up for my CCL renewal class. He let me know that the instructor would be someone else but was someone that is experienced and just as knowledgeable. Fast forward 4 days later, and I just finished their CCL renewal class. It was my first time seeing the classroom side of the building and it's very clean, comfortable, and gives off warm/welcoming vibes. My instructor's name was Erin. She's a powerhouse of knowledge and has a broad understanding of the law. The course curriculum can be a bit much to take in and understand, but she took her time and made sure our class understood everything. There were some really tough questions brought up and the way she handled the questions was admirable, and she didn't give us gray area answers. She broke it down so we all know the legal side of things, not just the morality of things. Having a conceal & carry license is not something that should be taken lightly or for granted. The law is very strict and real life circumstances arise that no one can prepare you for. I'm confident after my renewal training that I'm more prepared than I was prior. I highly recommend LDA for all your training needs, especially CCL training & for the new and experienced handgun owners. Everyday the law is changing and it's important to stay up-to-date.

John was an amazing instructor and you can tell that he’s passionate about teaching this subject. I would recommend this class to anyone no matter your experience level.
