UVA Community Credit Union

I was a member of this bank 20 years ago in Charlottesville and have gone back when the branch opened in Culpeper. It is a great bank with a manager and tellers who remember your name and give personal service.. I can’t say enough about either the system or this particular branch. If you want a real home town bank this is it.

I’ve been with them for a few decades. I’ve never had a problem. Basic services are free. Their web browser is clunky and the app is okay. I use bill pay and transfer money between accounts easily. They deserve more than the 2.7 stars their google review shows.

Credit unions are generally about ten years behind on technology of any sort (I have friends who work at this credit union and they complain about it all the time) so the ATMs are often out of order, the phone apps are slow and clunky, and online banking is usually un-navigatable. The employees are always kind, though new hires you have to keep an eye on because they'll hire anyone to do your banking for you (big box store cashiers). There are other, more advanced banks with better loan rates and opportunities. Check them out first before trying UVACU. One star for being a co-op and one for friendly service.

Borderline criminal the fees this bank charges you and the app is something out of the early 2000s. Buyer beware shady practices like ten dollar fees to take payment over the phone. Want to pay from the app? It will be 3-5 days to set up payment IF IT works. Customer service is rude. Hopefully someone brings legal action soon against this predatory business.

If you want a hard time and/or hassle to make payments because you use another bank for payments....especially if you're military. This is the place that you want! I would give my right foot to have not used this organization, My right foot's the good one.

This is the LAST bank you’d want to have managing your money. Extremely incompetent.

Well I won't feel bad leaving a 1 star for the Culpeper branch. I see that others have had issues as well. First off almost Everytime we have been here an attitude pops up. It's not us because we have found out just not to say nothing and it will be okay. Very sad honestly. 2. Waste of time and trip tonight 6/3 so we went to deposit money in the ATM check the records but 2 or 3 times of trying it got all the way to depositing it and said please take your money the machine gave it back to us. Then prints a receipt that you all say we can not accept a deposit at this time. Waste of gas and trip. The Culpeper office miles well not be open honestly. Something is always broke and you can't get money or the attitudes from the tellers . We finally drove to orange to do the deposit. That branch ATM took it without hesitation. Also, as a member here I feel that customer service will make you or break you this day and time in any area where you are located. I strongly recommend everyone from Culpeper going to the main branch or the one over on Main St in Charlottesville to get or learn how a customer should be treated and served. Especially the one off main St we have been there only once and the teller was phenomenal when both of us walked out we said wow the same time and busted out laughing of how great the teller was compared to the Culpeper branch. Just to give you an idea we live in Madison and we rather drive out of our way than to rather get an attitude anymore. We aren't millionaires so yeah we don't have much in the bank but, everyone should be treated equally. I will not stop at Culpeper anymore after these issues and tonight incident I will drive out my way to Orange where they are polite as well or to Ruckersville then drive to Culpeper. Some changes need to happen in this branch. Just my opinion. We love dealing with all the branches except this one. Overall it is a good credit union and it's a place that you can trust your money is safe never had a problem with that.
