Highly recommend shredded chicken and salt&pepper pork chop. The food was GREAT, and surprisingly affordable. Definitely will go back. Note that they have a long line though - we got there at 5pm for dinner and there was already a line and the line kept getting longer.

I love the clay pots, which have plenty of crispy rice. The pea shoots were fresh and cooked just right and the salt pepper pork chop was delicious. Prices are reasonable for the portions and the area.

Service takes a while when the restaurant is full. I think the wait is worth it!

My husband and I came here occasionally today and were both surprised by their food quality— they are amazing and super good! After I moved from NJ to CA, this is the first Chinese restaurant that has been shocked me by its taste! We ordered three regular dishes to see how good they were—House Hainan chicken lunch plate, black bean spare ribs and beef chow fun. The house hainan chicken tastes super fresh and juicy! The black bean spare ribs is amazing and absolutely delicious- ribs are tender and the rice is scrumptious ! Their amount is quite huge and we were full after two dishes. The beef chow fun was taken to home and it’s also very good!

The staffs are very friendly and nice. Tea is free. And the price is reasonable($20-30/person )

For those who want to try authentic Cantonese cuisine, it’s the best one and I highly recommended it! Definitely i will come back to try again!

Blue Sky Cafe (BSC) is an authentic Cantonese restaurant at its best. It is in an worn-down strip mall, barely a sign. As a matter of fact, I've lived in San Carlos 6 years and never noticed this spot.

Commensurate to the exterior, the interior is bare bones. There are tables and chairs. Just basic utensils. In many ways, it feels a bit sketchy as well. The servers barely speak English and you hear the cacophony of Cantonese from the busy kitchen while the entire restaurant is jam packed with a mountain of pick up delivery meals waiting on the side.

Everything is forgiven and then some when the food arrives. Eating at BSC is somewhat like walking in a field of treasure or an Easter egg hunt. The menu does not describe anything, and I'm sure there's some Chinese name for it, so you sort of take a "bet" ordering. But guess what. Whatever you order, will be phenomenal. This is by far one of the best Cantonese comfort food in the Bay Area. There is nothing more to say here. The food is authentic and amazing. And when the food arrives, you sort of feel what else should or could I hve ordered.

It is clear that there is more love than one can imagine imbued into every dish that comes out, hot and fresh, from the kitchen. And one can also tell that they are hitting the limits of scale preserving the quality and taste while keep prices super low. I truly commend the owner for keeping BSC the way it is, not worrying about niceties or garnish and staying focused on putting a spoonful of delight in every bite.

First time being here. Food tastes really great! Very impressed with the eel clay pot rice, the seafood tofu, hand shredded chicken, and the stir fried beef noodle. So happy to have the authentic cantonese food. Food portion is also large.

We love eating here as the service is really great and there are two large round tables. Surprisingly, it doesn't get overly loud inside even when all the tables are full, so you can actually have a conversation. Eating here is a great way to feed a lot of people as the dishes are generously sized. Favorites are all the porridges, house special pan fried noodle, fish fillet with green (usually zucchini), peking spareribs, and string bean with chicken. The family that runs this restaurant is really, really nice too!

Tip: We love getting takeout from here but you need to plan ahead. The restaurant is really popular during prime time meal hours so if we order too close to 6pm we've had to wait 30-45min past our quoted time for food.

Probably the best Cantonese style dishes you can get here on the peninsula. Really enjoyed their tasty chicken mushroom crispy clay pot rice and fresh sauteed garlic green beans and mustard greens. All had big portions enough for 3-4 easily. Got takeout but the service was still very friendly and it was ready 30 min after I called it in. Not much of an ambience but the food is the most important right? Can't wait to try some other dishes.

My go-to favorite Chinese spot to fix my cravings!

4.5/5 - would definitely come back again to try their other dishes. The food here is served super fresh and fast (except for the clay pot, which needs 30 minutes)

We ordered 4 things and the waiter cautioned us that they have big portions - they weren’t wrong! The last photo shows how much food we took home and the leftover lasted us 2 more meals.

Overall the food is delicious, I would recommend getting their clay pot rice. We got the small one with chicken and shiitake mushroom - it was super flavourful and chicken was very tender. The Singapore style rice noodle is also pretty tasty. The fujian style egg tofu with broccoli came loaded with so much things in the sauce on top that we couldn’t see the broccoli. The sauce is flavourful to dip the tofu in but the tofu.

-0.5 because the beef was mostly batter and there wasn’t much meat

One of the best HK style baked pork chop rice I’ve had in the Bay Area. Portions are larger too. Ice HK milk tea is a extra tad too sweet for me.

Be prepared for a long wait for your food as they are very busy! The wait is well it for delicious food!

The chicken is spot on and I start craving for it the moment I left the restaurant… clay pot rice and salted egg shrimp are both very, very tasty as well. Come here early or off peak hour to avoid long wait!

Excellent taste, friendly service. A bit affected by high takeaway demand, but understandable. High ratings are well-deserved.

Casual spot with great portions for the value. If you’re ordering the clay pot rice, order as soon as you get a table it’ll take 20-30 min.

Very good food, well cooked rich flavors. Not greasy and overly covered with sauce. We got eel clay pot and beef chow fun and both were delicious. We will come back!

Very good Cantonese style food. Tastes very much like HK restaurants. A lot less greasy than typical US Chinese restaurants.

I lived in Hong Kong for 6 years and I’d say hands down one of the best canto food in town. Huge portions, small friendly restaurant. Love the hongkong milk tea & egg and beef on rice.
