Hearty and delicious food. My one complaint is the hot sauce naming - Mama Bear hot sauce should be MILDER than Baby Bear hot sauce…right?

Friendly attentive staff, clean restaurant. Ordered the fish and chips, enjoyed everything but the fish. The batter seemed more crunchy than flaky. This may just be me. I have had breakfast here and it was amazing. The fried cod was the first thing that I haven’t cared too much for.

Excellent food and great care! Rations are big, even for US standards.

Update to my last review:
We went to this diner a few nights ago. As usual I ordered breakfast for dinner. This time everything was great! It was good enough that as I was eating I was thinking, I need to update my post to share a 100% positive experience. It was much more the experience I usually had at this restaurant.

I may have hit an off night earlier this year, and I've deleted that post because it was not representative of the norm at this restaurant. This recent meal and overall experience was perfect.

Black Bear Diner exceeded our expectations with its excellent service and welcoming atmosphere. Perfect for families, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable dining experience. The food was outstanding, with generous portions and delicious flavors that delighted both kids and adults. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had dinner at the Black Bear Diner in Pleasanton for the first time this evening. We're in town for the weekend, from Los Angeles County. The food, service and prices were great! We'll definitely be back for breakfast tomorrow!

Visiting from out of state, my brother introduced me to the Black Bear Diner in Pleasanton, California. We tried breakfast, lunch and dinner on several different occasions. I was so impressed with the menu, food quality, and service. One young lady by the name of Suzanne seriously impressed me. When this young lady walks up to the table, her smile is genuine and not forced. I have extensive experience within the restaurant business from a server to a Manger position. I always strived to find people like Suzanne but never came across such an individual like her. Suzanne anticipated your wants, needs, and desires in dinning. Always paid attention to her guests and makes you feel like not only an important customer but as a friend.
The food as well as the overall atmosphere is fantastic! I highly recommend the Black Bear Diner for a fantastic overall dinning experience. I give this exceptional restaurant a 10 out of 10.

Have been here several times and the meals have never disappointed. To be transparent, it’s only been for breakfast. With that said, staff has always been pleasant and the food has always been very good with spot-on service. Can’t speak for the other meals (lunch & dinner) but breakfast has always been consistent. Stop in for at least breakfast and you shouldn’t be disappointed.

Excellent service and huge portions. Our waiter was very nice and attentive throughout our meal. They ran out of vanilla ice cream for my root beer float and we got a complimentary drink with chocolate instead. The tri tip sandwich was delicious!

Meal was scrumptious and yummy 😋 sat at the counter, wait staff was prompt and super friendly! Coffee was hot and delicious 🥓 🍳☕ everything was clean and I left full and happy. A great place with good people, I highly recommend!

We had breakfast. My wife enjoyed the Bear's choice. I had chicken fried steak and eggs. They have the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. It's tender and delicious. The breading is light and crisp and the gravy is amazing.

Use their signature sauce. Put it on everything your heart desires. They have baby burn, mama burn, and papa burn. perhaps my favorite part of the meal was their sauce. Too spicy, my dad simply mixed it was ketchup to enjoy with his scrambled eggs. Their coffee is 100% nicaraguan blend if that sort of fun fact entices you.

This place was very family friendly and had a wonderful staff. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, and they had large booths to fit car seat and booster seat with whole family comfortably. I really enjoyed our brunch there. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We will definitely be going back. Our server was very helpful and sweet and she made our experience great. Great customer service.

Stopped here this morning for breakfast after the PG&E power shutoff. Even though the place was crazy busy. We got in quickly. The staff was friendly and food was great!! I ordered the Griz which is one of the largest things to order on the menu. pancakes are definitely a must have!

You get a lot of food for the money. Come hungry and eat everything there as pancakes taste awful reheated in the microwave. Very friendly waitress and manager. Trust your Google map directions as it's in an area a little off the main road .

Great staff and service. We had Suzanne (or Susie?) on Saturday and she was so kind. We met a friend we had not seen in years and she never rushed us and let us catch up. The other team members were helpful and pleasant as well. You can tell they enjoy their job and work great as a team. The manager was also terrific and friendly.

Great food that comes to you quickly and hot. Food is good for the price. Staff is amazingly friendly and has become my every Sunday dinner stop with friends.
