Switched to Optimum for faster speeds, best idea. However, the return label to return the rented modem takes "7-10 business days" to receive. What a scam. Sending a return label takes 10 seconds. Centurylink is just scamming to charge you longer for still having the modem. I still haven't received my return label. Called customer service, of course, disconnected on their end. Keep calling back, on hold now for over 20 minutes. I never leave bad reviews but this is total extortion by CenturyLink.

Extremely poor product and poor customer service. I called to report an outage and the first time I called, after getting through their extremely long and dumb ivr it rang to no one. Then I called back and twice they "transferred" me to a higher department and they never came back.

When I did finally get someone who actually did their job and contacted dispatch to escalate the issue, because a cable was hanging from the pole outside and touching the ground, which could be causing a neighborhood wide outage and could be dangerous incase someone touches it, they told me they couldn't have a truck dispatched for a week and a half.

What kind of company allows a cable to hang off the pole for a more than a week? Any other company would do a little thing called triage and prioritize the more urgent issues over the less urgent ones and consider that this large issue may solve the smaller ones. Even the manager said that they did not have the availability to prioritize a downed line over the less urgent issues. And it was the best they could do. We are canceling this service as soon as possible

Long story short if you don't want to read this whole thing:

It is apparently Century Link's policy to charge in advance for services not rendered and leave their customers without their paid services for weeks because apparently it is acceptable practice for their technicians to just not show up to their appointments or complete the job.

The full story:

Absolute garbage. Slowest possible internet speeds next to dial up, and when finally they offer an upgrade, I lost my internet completely. Can't get a tech out for a full week to repair it and they tell me I may be charged for the repair. My service, while extremely slow, worked fine before they supposedly "upgraded" it. I'd give no stars if possible and unfortunately CenturyLink is one of the only service providers in my area. Totally unacceptable service.

*UPDATE* 10 days after losing my initial service, I have now cancelled my service with Century Link. My technician appointment was from 8-12 on Monday 5/21. No call, no show. Someone had to be home for this "appointment" so someone had to sit here waiting for this technician to not call or show up all day. My two initial calls to tech support promised they would page the technician and have him call me to give me a status update. 3 hours later, still no call, still no update. No explaination whatsoever as to why it is now 4 hours past my appointment. I made several more calls, everytime on hold for 30 minutes or more. No information each time. I am fed up. At 7:30 I call one last time with the intent to cancel my service. Customer service is now closed so I try tech support one last time, finally reaching a supervisor.... who magically was able to pull up every detail of my case including the tech who punched out for the day at 4:30, leaving my case open and noted "Did not contact customer." Nice. So a report gets filed and the agent tells me usually someone comes out the next day or so in a situation like this, having escalated it further. Ok great, now I have at least some kind of answer. So the next morning I'm checking constantly for an update and my case still hasn't been assigned a tech. Finally around 1 pm I see that my appointment has been rescheduled..... For JUNE 1st. TEN MORE days from now. 19 days from my initial loss of service and after completely blowing off my first repair appointment. Obviously I flipped my life and I'm back on the phone. I tell the agent that this is completely unacceptable that they schedule appointments that are unfulfilled and then reschedule without notifying the customer. That the leave their customers without their billed in advanced services for 20 days or more. And I said that if this cannot be resolved in the next 24 hours I will be taking my business elsewhere. So immediately she's calling dispatch, commence another 45 minute hold... Finally she comes back and says they can get someone out in 5 days during an 8 hour window. This was still unsatisfactory to me, being as I have a job that I actually show up to unlike their technicians. I asked if there was anything more she can do to resolve this and she said "no" so I ended the call, contacted customer service, cancelled my service, and will be taking my business elsewhere.

Side note: This is also an ongoing battle for my neighbor who has been without service for about a week longer than I have.

Too, too, many internet outages. Oftentimes several times a week.
When you call to inquire at to why, yet again, your internet has stopped working, you'll get a nice person on the other side of the planet who will have no ability to diagnose or correct your problem. Most often it is because Century Link itself is forever shutting off the internet to make "product improvements", ignoring that their customers are PAYING for 24/7/365 service. I don't know how many times I've made local purchases and have been told by the vendor that I had to pay with a check or cash. Why? Because Century Link couldn't straighten out their telephone connection to the credit card machine. This is the worst internet and phone provider ever and I can't wait to switch.

Would not even give one star. Horrid service. I canceled and they continued to charge me for 7 months and refuse to honor my cancel request or send labels to return the box. Can’t begin to explain the awful experience with them. Not worth it

This is the #1 worst company in the universe. Do not sign up with them. The internet service is no better than 1990's AOL dial up. When you call for any problems you get connected to the Phillipines who by the way gets paid by the hr and will keep you on the phone asking you to do stupid trouble shooting that does nothing but waste your time for over 1 hr. But, wait theres more. When they set you up for a tech to come to your house, they never show up, I mean never ever the day they are supposed to. They don't call, nothing. They randomly show up between 3-5 days after your scheduled time slot. Guess what if your not home they reschedule you the following week and the same thing happens, They don't show up. In total I think I have spent over 26 hours on the phone between troubleshooting and on hold over about 8 phone calls and there has been zero progress over 3 months and my internet service is no better from day 1. Dont fall victim to the bundle direct tv deal. Direct tv will double bill you and lie to you about fees you dont have to pay which they send you a bill for them anyway, then at that point you are locked in to a 2 yr contract. Bottom line STAY AWAY FROM CENTURYLINK!

I pay for their fastest service. Supposed to be 20 megabits. I’m lucky if I get 4 or 5 most of the time wired directly to the centulink router. Can’t watch a streaming movie from Netflix or Amazon without frequent interruptions.

Avoid at all costs. I have yet to meet someone who was actually happy with this company. Sadly, no other internet provider is available in our area. Pretty sure this is the only reason Century Link is still in business.

How is it possible that we are in 2018 and they have not up the speed. I live in Andover Boro, and the internet is TERRIBLE. You can only have a certain amount of devices hooked up at one time... Lets get with it people... Some of us need more speed with the amount of people we have in a house....

They Canceled install appointment by not showing up and not calling us. Abysmally poor responsiveness when we did not want an 8am appointment. Extremely lame management of their installation staff and appointments
