The Mountain Goat

I visited the Mountain Goat the day before a weekend winter cabin camping adventure. I was in need of a backpack that could accommodate everything I needed on my 5' frame. Matt presented several options for me to choose from and I purchased the perfect backpack for the job. I got home this afternoon and I could not be happier with my purchase. The Mountain Goat is a great resource for outdoor adventures and the customer service is top notch!

I came across The Mountain Goat while passing through Manchester during a short visit to Vermont. I'm always curious to see what kind of gear different shops offer and had no intention of buying anything. However, the salesman's knowledge about the best gear for my next hiking adventure was reason enough to support the store. And an added bonus: I also got great tips for day hikes from the local pros. Thanks for suggesting what turned out to be one of my favorite day treks of all time!

It's what a gear closet would look like! Quality outdoor brands; like Osprey, Oboz, Leki and several others. Store personal were very helpful in making sure you found what you needed.

My boots were toast. I took those boots up and down vermont, all the way up the olympics in washington, down the rocky shores of the pacific. Wore them farming, pouring concrete, landscaping. They were truly toast.
But they never failed me.
Not once.

I was excited to have new boots.
Nothing prepared me for the feeling of putting these new boots on........ My feet felt amazing...
And I started crying right there by the counter. Hunched over desperately trying to hide my tears like I was just putting on my new boots.
The thought of throwing away something that had been so very loyal to me, all the memories I made in them. All the places I had been. It all hit like a tsunami.
One of the owners saw me, she immediately realized what was happening.
Right there, she said, "I can mail these home for you"
She put my trusty old boots into the box the now ones came in. Took my moms adress, and promised to mail them home for me. Nor did she charge me a dime.
There are no words to express how this made me feel. I was in the middle of one of the worst days of my life, I had just left the hospital, everything that day was just so AGDHSHAGAHAJAJZBXNXMZKSJ

Those boots will see a cobbler, they have stories that I will never have enfough time to ever tell. They stink to high hell and are full of holes and have no tread and they are still mine because of her compassion.
And she gave me a sticker.

They are not shopkeepers they are trail angles.

Love this place. Great brands, service and atmosphere. And they have US Sherpa!

This is a top-notch gear shop that I highly recommend! Their selection of products is great and the staff is super friendly and helpful. They helped my wife pick out the perfect pair of hiking boots, and they provided great information about a pair of Chaco’s I ended up purchasing too. This is not just a great gear shop, but it’s also a great visit for anyone planning to adventure while in Manchester. I highly recommend stopping by!

When I mentioned I was having issues with one of my hiking poles a staff member spent an hour looking at it and making a repair, stating no payment was needed. Was blown away by this customer service - will be making this stop every time I pass by.

Tried hard to find a good fit for me but didn't have many wide options in stock. Still really appreciated the time and service and they looked for other options at other outfitters on the trail north of me. Didn't try to sell me on a boot that didn't fit.

Kind of a posh place but I went in to see if o could get last minute hiking shoes for a trip and browsed their bargains. Despite being a self-described cheapo, staff was still friendly and helpful for the things I was looking for. I'd tell you the bargains I got but I don't want to ruin my supply. Stop in and at least ogle at some of the fancier gear out there.

I was around 650 miles into hiking the A.T and had terrible heel pain. Thankfully, I came across the Mountain Goat. My husband and I both got custom insoles made by Ron. Since he uses a hard foam, they are superior to hard plastic ones I had considered buying prior to the hike and more affordable too. I had gone through a half dozen bad insoles. The ones I bought here saved my hike. I raved about them to anyone who would listen. I have high arches on both sides of my feet, and with these I had full support. It was like walking on a cloud... learning to walk all over again. I can't say enough good things about this store. Ron spent a ton of time with us explaining massage techniques that were enlightening. If you're having heel pain like me or constant blisters like my husband, I suggest considering ordering a custom pair. Alignment from the base up helps other problems too, knee, hip, back. Call ahead to book time with Ron if you're a hiker in pain. We hiked ahead a few days and then backtracked by bus for an appointment with Ron. It was worth it. Thank you to everyone at the Mountain Goat. Beyond the insoles, there's all the best gear for hikers.

Charming store with a great staff. Despite a small foot print they have an excellent gear selection. Great if you're a thru hiker or a day hiker looking to get going.

The Mountain Goat is the place to go to get outdoors. They have a great selection of gear, knowledgeable staff and interesting resources. Patagonia products, hiking supplies, camping, nice outdoor clothing. Guide books. Dog supplies (like orange collars and collapsible bowls). Shop local and let them help you!
