I visited once in October 2012. This is a nice local place that makes everything from scratch in house. The paintings on the wall depict the peaks of the Adirondacks. The food is very good, and the service is excellent. The waitresses wear tee shirts with single words from the cafe's apparent slogan, such as "savory" and "delicious." This is certainly flattering but weird as well. The coffee is good. There is parking available right in front of the cafe, but there are not many spots. There is a small gas stove in the dining area for anyone shivering from the cold. Definitely a nice place to stop.

November 2012 update: I went twice in November. I tried a number of other items on the menu. They were all excellent. Actually, the food is better than excellent. Our waitress, Margot, was very friendly and is an expert on cheese. Seek her out. We also met the owner, Fiona (if I recall her name correctly), who was very happy to discuss her extraordinary recipe for potato soup with roasted Brussels sprouts. Do visit this restaurant!

December 2012 update: I went back again once in December. Another great experience. I can still highly recommend this restaurant.

March 2013: I ate here three times in the last week. It is still as good as ever and still one of my favorites in the Keene area.

On Friday 10/02/15 my car broke down 4 miles up the side of the mountain on route 73 at 0515 in the morning with the temperature a balmy 35. I had planned on Trekking up Mt. Marcy but instead trekked down the mountain to Keene and discovered I had no cell phone coverage. It was 0700 hrs and I saw the light on in the ADK Cafe. I needed to get help so I went inside...what an incredible sight and smell of beautiful pastries and breakfast being prepared. The interior seating is charmingly rustic and warm. I was greeted by Alex a foreign exchange student worker who was so very pleasant. I told Alex about my situation and without any hesitation he disappeared to the kitchen and returned with the House Phone. I was able to contact a family member in Plattsburgh and help was summoned. I looked a little worried and depressed but Alex sensed that and started to make small talk and before I knew it. I was seated enjoying the best tasting coffee " House Brew" and a warm cranberry nut scone. Alex continued to ready the Cafe for the breakfast crowd but continued to make certain that I was OK. By 0730 many guests had arrived and I heard all the compliments of the returning regulars. I finished my lite breakfast and thanked Alex for his kindness and for the great food and service. Because the Cafe was filling up fast I waited outside for my ride. I got to climb Marcy the Next day and when I drove by the ADK Cafe at 1430 hrs they were packed....so to Alex...I did it...thanks...please stop by the ADK Cafe...you will be glad you did.

If you are in the Lake Placid area, the Adk Cafe is a great choice for any meal. They are nice people who make great food. It was fantastic, one of the better places I have ever eaten anywhere. Really! They were also very considerate. I have a dairy allergy and they were so good about adapting their menu to my needs while making sure it was a wonderful experience. This place is awesome.

Stopped by on the way out of Lake Placid - everything in Lake Placid was closed, so we took a chance. This was a true gem! Yes, it's a bit weird that they don't accept cash, but not a big deal! The food was fresh, healthy and delicious. Prices were reasonable. Service was friendly. Decor- true Adirondack cafe! No kids meals, but the side of Mac and Cheese was enough for my 6 year old. I had the Pulled Pork taco, very unique and delicious. Cajun Sweet Potato Fries are great and the bread is fresh baked. Coffee was in the top 5 that I've ever had. I will definitely stop by again and tell everyone.

I ordered the Reuben sandwich and my husband ordered the chicken. It was the best sandwich I've ever eaten. Everything is fresh made. Down to the pickle on the side. You can buy a loaf of their homemade bread. It was a great place.

Had a great post-hike dinner here: very flavorful vegetable stew and bread (the Earth Plate) and a nice herby half roast chicken with a little mac & cheese and corn on the cob. Sweetly decorated dining room. We'll definitely be back.

Amazing sandwiches on homemade bread and super tasty pie totally hit the spot after a loooooong hike! I love that they have some healthier or at least less meat based options and that they make many of their own base ingredients.

Awesome food, great experience. Must try as many items as you can. I had the chicken salad sandwich, with chips and fries and pickles, all of which was delicious. Very friendly owner/manager, with helpful recommendations.

I finally found a good place to get good food on the way home from Lake Placid. The attention to detail is amazing. How often do you get 5 star quality food and presentation to go with a $7 sandwich?

This place will go down as one of my favorites. Excellent and creative menu, we had breakfast twice. By far their french toast takes the prize. Fair prices considering where you are. I hope you all give it a chance.

Homemade baked goods - heck, homemade everything! The Reuben is especially great. Not classic : they use pickled cabbage instead of coleslaw, and make their own Russian-esque sauce, but awesome.

Exceptional homemade foods - homemade bread, homemade chips, homemade salad dressing - it's all good! The bread was so good we bought a loaf to bring home. Beautiful Adirondack décor.

Somehow nobody mentioned this place when we asked for recommendations for lunch on the way out of the high peaks! Loved it, can be very busy but would go again.
