10/10 would visit again when I'm back in the area. Authentic and delicious--my partner and I shared a lunch special and some yuca fries and it was a good portion. The yuca fries didn't come with sauce, so we tried dipping them in the tomato sauce and crema. The crema was a great impromptu sauce!

Completely wiped the plate clean.

Plátano is a salvadorian restaurant with delicious Pupusas 🫓!! The Pupusas sizes are large and can fill you up. There are many other typical salvadorian plates to enjoy as well. There are plenty of seats and the restaurant size is pretty large for a space in Berkeley. Service was great and the food was yummy. Parking around this area can be a challenge, so be prepared to circle around a bit if not trying to park in the structure/garage.

Very good papusas service was excellent and courteous. Loved the plantains as well. I don't recall my drinks name but it was fruity and refreshing.

The food is great! I am falling in love with pupusas! My favorite is the chicken and cheese one. The plantains are also good! The service is a little slow and might take some time.

Platano is swinging for the fences with tasty Salvadorian and Central American food, large portions, friendly staff come a great selection of beers that traditionally go along with these dishes, walk up friendly location, and like the name says, Platanos! If you've never had one of these tasty treats which is a variation on a fried banana, but with way more flavor, you need to stop in here. I ordered the Bistek, (steak. Most Latin and Caribbean countries have their own take on this dish) with black beans and rice, platanos, and a side salad on the plate. Someone's mom is obviously working in this kitchen because this is old school goodness, and for people who want some authentic Latin food, I would absolutely go here as opposed to some pricey Upscale hipster hangout like Comal.
Platinol has been holding it down since 2006, and the quality hasn't changed once. Family run, and family operated, this place is my favorite Central American eatery in the East Bay. Highly recommended

The papusas here are really good and very affordable. The salsa is $5, which seems steep, but it’s delicious. Papusas come withe a type of marinated cabbage, similar to coleslaw, but with mayonnaise. Overall, really great food for value.

The first thing I noticed was how affordable this place is. This is my favorite place to get tamales salvadoreños. The platanos tasted good and homemade. The service is nice and friendly. Definitely recommend.

It may feel hot/stuffy inside, but the food at this place is great. The pupusas and plantains are really good, and their homemade slaw and sauce for the pupusas are extremely tasty. Their bistek was super good too.

I’ve gone 4 times and so far the food and service has been good. They have a lot of tables and especially for big parties of 8 people or more. Very Salvadoran from the cooks to the waiters and dishes.

I have walked by Platano many times and finally decided to go in and try it. Boy was I glad! If you llke yummy foods centered around beans, rice, meats etc come try this place out. The yucca can be fried if you ask for it. I tried the Pollo asado and it was great!

I came late and they were about to close, but they still kindly hosted me and served me with amazing food. I’m already in love with this place, will come back to try more!

Been here for three times in the last two months now, and I gotta say, the best restaurant in Berkeley yet. The staff is extremely friendly! (I'm a beginner in Spanish and they teach me Spanish in the restaurant when I'm ordering :) ) They serve very large portions at fair prices, you have to try their plátano fritos (fried banana), it's very awesome. The environment is very clean and well-organized, I wish I could give them 6 stars but google only allows me to give 5 stars.

Best pupusas I’ve had outside of El Salvador. Not greasy, good flavor. I wish I’d known about the spicy salsa (just read someone else’s review!) even though the mild is typical to El Salvador. The plátanos were perfect.

Amazing food, nice service, fast, waiters are not all over you and give you time before the check comes. I had the Mar i Tierra.

I love this place - the pupusas and plantains are so much better than any other place I've been in the Bay. Plus the pickled cabbage and hot sauce - one of my favorite spots in Berkeley.
