Came here for a quick coffee with a friend and absolutely loved the atmosphere! The bookstore had a variety of books and included adorable book nooks to read in! They had hand written recommendations and everything was easily organized. I ordered a matcha and it was good, but I wouldn’t recommend the pastries as my muffin was dry.

Of course I loved it. Decent size and variety of selection, especially fiction and a children's corner. Gorgeous new renovation of an older building. They have a coffee/wine bar. The coffee window opens at 7am to enjoy a coffee and pastry on their huge outdoor seating area (but the actual bookstore opens at 9am). They also stay open as late as 9pm!

Other pros:
+ Annual membership for a discount with every purchase and free drip coffee each visit.
+Plenty of off street parking.

Cons:
-No specialty book areas such as LGBTQ, etc. -Nonfiction area is smaller

This is a cozy local bookstore that features a cafe, great selection of books, and various indoor and outdoor workspaces. It was a bit crowded on a Sunday, but I was still comfortable and able to find space to read and relax.

The surrounding neighborhood is very walkable with a few restaurants and shops in the vicinity.

Beautifully curated book shop and cafe in Hyde Park located in the old post office. Such a pretty space and the book selection is top notch! Can’t wait to return. There is a good sized parking lot and seating indoors and outdoors.

I went Friday before the grand opening. Great little shop! Was able to pick up 2 new books and try some coffee shop beverages. Matcha is strong! So try and maybe ask for extra milk (Iced Matcha Latte)
Indoor seating is limited but they have plenty! Shaded outdoor seating :) Welcome to the neighborhood!

Such a cute spot! Great service and good coffee! I found all the books I’ve been looking for a struggled to decide which ones to get.. I will say though their drip and espresso are great their matcha was not at all mixed (literal chunks of powder in my drink) and I wound not recommend.

Awesome bookstore & reuse of an old post office. The inside space is beautiful — lots of natural light. Some seating inside & lots outside. I came on the one rainy summer day and can totally see this as my WFH spot come fall!
I recommend the vanilla latte. They make all of their syrups. Cheers!! ☕ 📚

Amazing little bookshop. Many reading nooks, a child section with adapted furniture, a small coffee shop with a great outdoor patio. You'll want to spend more more there and end up reading something.

What a beautiful bookstore and what a nice place to hang out! Came out here after hearing about it on Insta and I decided I'd have myself a wonderful "me day" by starting my self date day here. Definitely not a mistake y'all. Oh this place is so gorgeous. The stained glass window, the displays, everything about this place is such a calming factor. They do have a yearly membership that they offer, and if I lived closer I would find it highly beneficial, but for $99 a year you get 20% all your purchases, delivery within a 5 mile radius and free drip coffee. MY SOUL. If you live close, love books and coffee I would 100% recommend. I grabbed myself a few books, a croissant and tea while I was here. I can't wait to plan another day to come back!

I don’t normally leave reviews but felt inspired given some of the poor reviews other folks have left. This local bookstore & cafe is so charming, with an amazing curated selection of books and inviting atmosphere to read, connect with a friend, play chess, etc. To the “local guides” who rate Starbucks and Outback Steakhouse 5 stars but give this place 1…stay in your lane and stop bringing down beautiful local businesses like this one that actually depend on reviews to drive their business. These are the kinds of places that give Austin its charm and people who actually read & enjoy books will understand.

This is by far my favorite book store in Austin.
They also host free chess on Wednesday at 5pm.

Beautiful new bookstore with a nicely curated selection. Their fiction section is especially great. Cute coffee bar serving coffee, tea, beer, and wine. Will be spending a lot of time here!

Cute indie book shop. Went on a fairly busy Sunday morning. Ventilation was a bit poor and no sign of HEPA filtration or signage about HVAC filtration efforts. Outdoor seating would be a great spot to meet with a fellow bibliophile.

This space has it all: Books, reading spots, tables to work on your laptop, and fantastic coffee and drinks. The staff is super friendly, and they will soon remember your usual drinks or help you find any book you are looking for.

Their collection has a huge range of genres and holds from fresh releases to classics. Once you grab your book you can sit outside or take refuge from the cold/heat on one of the book nooks inside (nothing like reading surrounded by more books!).

It gets super busy on the weekend, but you can always get a drink to go! One of my favorites is the matcha, which is well done and not filled with sugar. Their ciders are good as well.

This place has been a blessing for Hyde Park, for Austin in general, and a great refuge to read, chat, and work for people of all ages--even the kids get their huge selection of books!

Bring your book, a good vibe, and you'll find a cozy bookstore to hang out at!

Gorgeous space full of light and a hand-picked selection of books & magazines. They also have a café serving your favorite brew & a selection of wine/beer/ciders.

I love a good bookstore, and I love a good coffeeshop. First Light has both, and I couldn't be happier! I was at the opening, and was so pleased with the large crowd. I wish I had a picture of the entry door and the furniture. Just a great place.

Amazing place! A beautiful interior with lots of natural light, well curated books/products, and a nice little cafe. Very busy when we were there but that added to the vibrant atmosphere. Outdoor seating is good though was filled up by the time we got there.

Congrats to First Light for an incredibly successful grand opening! I’ve been biking over to check on construction progress for months now, so it was amazing seeing it all come together.

Every detail was thoughtfully designed to create a beautiful, cozy-yet-airy store with a delicious cafe.

Really great selection of books and so many little places to sit and flip through pages for a while.
