Became one of my favorite Thai restaurant!! Everything we ordered are super flavorful and great for sharing. My friend and I celebrated birthday there. Was a fantastic experience! Reservation is highly recommended because of its popularity. Although the food is on the higher end, I’d say the quality and atmosphere make up for it!

If you plan on coming, I highly recommend that you make a reservation. This place can get really busy during dinner but the line goes fast. The atmosphere is great, the table for two is a bit too small. If you have a taste for spicy then this Thai restaurant is the spot. I highly recommend the steam fish, it is very savory and addicting. The minced pork with shrimp is really spicy, order it if you are up for a challenge.

Excellent service and food! Truly authentic Thai cuisine and a new gem in Hell's kitchen.

We had the crab curry and the fried fish. The curry was very spicy in a positive way and the soft shell crab crunchy and crispy. The fried bass was topped with a sweet glaze and the meat perfectly cooked, complimenting the skin.

Would recommend! My only regret was not coming sooner.

We had a very enjoyable meal at cha long. Highly recommend the special drink - it’s to die for! We had the steamed fish, braised beef curry, noodles with coconut, and vegetable side which were all sumptuous and flavorful, especially the curry. Portions size were ideal for sharing but on the smaller size (fish) for our party of 3 ladies. Definitely would return for the drinks and try more dishes. Only con is the limitation in spice level variety. We only had one star level of spicy dishes and would love to see additional, expanded levels of the dishes offered cooked with less spicy available.

See last picture of our “accomplishments”.

Very delicious Thai restaurant. The drinks are excellent and the dishes are great. The spicy ones have genuine spice to them.

Been here twice now and plan to return again soon. Excellent place to go before a Broadway Show.

My friend and I were recommended this restaurant by others during our visit to New York. We arrived at night and ordered some of the restaurant's specialties. Overall, the experience was quite enjoyable, with each dish complementing steamed rice to a high standard. I particularly recommend the Crab Curry and Goong Karee; they're a bit on the salty side, but deliciously flavorful for those who appreciate robust tastes.

Tried 5 dishes, oyster and the steamed fish won my heart. We ended up with ordering 2 dozens of oysters. Love the service too, foods were delivered quickly, just they were most likely small portions

I don’t usually write food review but Wow! Thank god for Chalong! It has now become my favorite Thai restaurant. Cozy, modern but yet there is still that sense of tradition. Staff were friendly, attentive and nice. A delectable and tasty Southern Thai cuisine that will satisfy you. My favorite is the coconut puff stick and moo hong (braised pork belly) which everybody should try (almost forgot to take a photo of my order). Not to forget the cocktails, Moo-yang, the cousin of old fashioned is amazing. Chalong is my go to Thai restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. Highly recommended.

Amazing variety of interesting Thai dishes! We ended up getting four dishes to share and loved all of them - it's hard to go wrong. The server was very nice and gave us recommendations on the dishes as well as advice based on the level of spice.

Loved the atmosphere - excellent cocktails and perfect to go family style on a few dishes with a group of friends. We had a group of 8 and were able to handle a few appetizers as well as about 7-8 main entrees to share and ended up finishing everything! The seafood kee mao was delicious though spicy along with the steamed fish. I was a huge fan of the shrimp curry and crab curry, as well. The sticky rice dessert was also splendid - a nice blend of salty and sweet to top off the meal. Will definitely be returning here another time!

After tasting the thai green curry, I have to perfect my own now. The food was literally 10/10. The goat curry gave me more of an Indian vibe.

If you’re looking for a modern chic Thai restaurant definitely check this place out! They have a lot of interesting Thai dishes that aren’t your typical pad thai - loved the koong karee and steamed fish with lime sauce. The fish was super tender and the lime sauce gave a kicker to the dish. Service was great also. Would recommend!

TLDR: Excellent service and food! The best Thai food I remember having, and it was way above average. It's a new gem in Hell's Kitchen that will become a new favorite for sure.

Finally, a place to show that good Asian food can be elevated and does not have to be cheap take-out and can also accommodate fine dining.

This upscale Thai restaurant is focused on its ambiance and social scene but the food is second to none. Walking in for a table might be problematic since they're popular and have a small space. Get a reservation or the wait time can be long

The decor is warm, relaxing, and elegant, good for a date or even a friend's reunion. The service is outstanding! The staff is polite, friendly and fast. The food comes at a very good pace. They will warn you about spice levels, so be aware in case you can't handle it.

It's a very seafood-focused menu but has other options too. Hard to pick favorites since everything is delicious, but some of the food highlights were:

Baerng Golae: Like a unique shrimp taco and the shell has an amazing added coconut flavor
Wings: Very small but the crispiness and the seasoning will surprise you.
Garlic Ribs: Fall-off-the-bone tender, extremely flavorful.
Crab curry: Spicy and outstanding mix of sweet and spicy. Has large chunks of crab meat in it
Beef Fried Rice: So flavourful, very large portion and the seasoning is spot on.

Not been too much of a fan of Thai food in general, but this place will see me again for sure.

Small place but packs a bunch.

The plates are on the smaller sizes: order 1 app, two seafood, and one wok of green for 2 people.

Baerng Golae: shrimp mini tacos. Great app, so much goes into this dish. The taco shells taste almost like sweet waffle cones and the succulent shrimp with some crunchy corn flakes add texture.

Grilled Hor-mom: sea bass filets in curry mousse warpped in banana leaves. So good this dish. It is almost like enjoying a mushy savory fish cake. They paired a spicy sauce and also rice with this dish. You must try 1)the fish alone 2)with sauce 3)all together with rice to escalate the flavor profiles. Leaving me wanting to try the steamed fish so bad.

Sator goong: order with CAUTION, SUPER SPICY. I came from a place with lots of spicy dishes so my tolerance is high, but I have to say the spicy aftertaste is strong. It will only get spicier over time. Dish is on a saltier side, good with rice.

Today’s green for wok of green is Gai Lan, and I must say I am surprised by how good this dish is, almost addicting. The sautéed sauce is sweet and almost umami, brings out the best of gai lan. You really cannot beat the freshness of this green. The best ingredients only need minimal processing to complement.

The dessert is good too. The coconut ice cream is frozen and pressing it I crushed it into the purple sticky rice. Glutinous rices, almost mochi like, tasted creamy. Some rices still have their shells and sneaked in little textures. Perfect way to end the meal.

Will definitely recommend this place to others. Fair warning I guess would be that the portion sizes are tiny. Know that before you come and you should be good.

Not your typical thai food but in a food way! Interesting menu but everything we ordered was superb. Make sure to get beef fried rice, see bass, and scallop appetizer! Their thailand region-inspired cocktails are also very good and interesting!

It was our irrst time at Chalong in the Heart of Hell’s Kitchen. We had a very delicious dining experience. The Guava Margarita was refreshing, and the Baerng Golae's blend of Thai spice with shrimp was outstanding. The Tom Som Pla showcased perfect balance. We loved that big stem mushroom and the cubes of white fish in the soup. The Mee Pum Miang surprised with its aromatic noodles and crispy shallots. We think that Chalong stands out amongst its peers for authentic Thai flavors and a memorable dining experience. The space is beautiful and warmly lit. The music could maybe a bit less loud and more Thai sounding. Overall: great dining experience. Highly recommended.

This place is such a good find if you’re looking for a more authentic Thai experience beyond your average Thai pad serving restaurant. The crab curry, crab fried rice, and their cocktails are the stars of the show here. Would definitely come back and try the rest of the menu.

The good and the services are both amazing! We enjoyed the fried whole fish, goat curry, stir fry veggie, and shrimp toco.
Will be back next time and try something else.

The only thing was the table was so small and we were so close to other tables and it gets pretty loud since the restaurant was packed.

Food is great! Been here twice, tried 8 dishes in total and my favorites are crab curry, Nham Prik, shrimp taco. A lot of variety in the menu.
