We've used Sunset twice now and they did great work both times. They built a small outdoor kitchen for us 4 years ago, but I knew the grill I had (28") was not the one I wanted. They designed the surround with two "frames" -one that could be cut away at a later date for a larger (36") grill. We just completed that process and I purchased a 36" Sedona through them. It was seamless and I'd recommend them without reservation.

Sunset Outdoor Living did a great job on our high-end outdoor kitchen. They handled all of the details and made sure that everything was cleaned up in the end. Pride in their workmanship shows and they are a pleasure to work with. We highly recommend them!

I loved the work they did for us! And, you don't have to do a full outdoor kitchen. We did just a grill with storage, backsplash and built in. It's beautiful and fantastic. Top notch work, timely, friendly and great craftsmanship.

Extremely disappointed with Chad. We met him at the Portland home show in April and agreed on an appointment to come to our house to get the information for an outdoor kitchen build on our new patio. We agreed to the date and time. And then he didn't show up. I texted him and my wife called and left a voicemail for him asking if he'd be here and telling him we were disappointed we had not been warned he wouldn't keep the appointment. We got no response. About two weeks later he said he "found" our appointment in an appointment book in a drawer (okay... a bit hard to believe, but we didn't argue; sometimes things do happen. We filed this away as a yellow flag.) and we set a new appointment. He did show up for that one and sent us a proposal a few days later. It looked fine and represented our wishes. We texted him "We were interested." He said he'd call back after lunch...and did not. He did call on a different day, but missed his first commitment to call us back that day. That's two commitments missed. That yellow flag was turning orange. But we continued discussing with him and started more investigations and had some questions - mostly about upgrading the grill brand for more intense heat and installing a smoke hood because our patio ceiling is new pine tongue and groove and we want to protect it from smoke and grease stains. Each attempt to contact him took a minimum of two days to get a response - he never answered the phone when we called nor returned our text the same day. When we did get a response we'd respond back and not hear from him for another 2 or 3 days. On the last iteration he finally called me back 3 days later but I missed the call. I called him back with my wife on the line leaving a voicemail that we wanted to review the changes and talk-our plan was to explain the upgrade and add-ons (more money for him), get his take and get a revised quote and plan. So, despite the flags, we are still interested if we can just nail these last changes and get a final quote. It's now 10 days after my return voicemail and I haven't heard anything from him, nor has my wife. If he treats us this way when he wants to win our business how is he going to treat us when we are his customer? Will he stay on schedule? On budget? Will the quality be there? I have no idea. But I can't sign up for a project like this for over $25,000, and think all will go well. I suspect I'd get the outdoor kitchen, but would it be on schedule, on budget, and with good quality? Very hard to tell given his extremely poor responsiveness. So we are moving on to get quotes from others.
