Checkered Moon

Cute store just off of main square in Mt. Dora. It is laid out in a manor that allowed us to shop with our children and stroller in tow. Fridge with drinks also provided much needed refreshment as we continued our walk. Staff was friendly, we will return.

Checkered Moon is by far my favorite store in Mt. Dora! They have the cutest gifts to fit anything you’re looking for home, baby, you name it. Sharon and Susan aim to please and are always so helpful every time I stop by to shop. Next time you’re in Mt. Dora make sure to shop here and you won’t be disappointed! Disregard the negative reviews - I’ve never had a bad experience at Checkered Moon and can’t say enough great things about the ladies of the store and shop.

People down rating this place have no idea what they're talking about. I see most of the negative reviews are from a year ago when a lot of people were fighting over masks/no masks. The team at Checkered Moon is always informed and up to date with CDC guidelines--nothing more, nothing less. Some people need to be a little more gentle with their reviews in such challenging, emotional times. These women are freaking awesome at what they do and their product is phenomenal. Walking in their shop will surely brighten your day with its atmosphere.

I’m a local and have been to this shop on more than one occasion. I’ve had wonderful experiences and the shop is bursting with positivity! I always find gifts for people I cherish here and will continue to go there for unique gifts. I also like their clothing. ☺

Awesome decor items. They have a great variety! Also have some very nice kids toys and a few clothing items. Love coming here and it's a place we stop in every time we are downtown.

What an adorable shop with the best items. Staff was extremely friendly so I assume they took care of whatever issue they had before per other older reviews. Definitely give it a try!

On a steamy hot day, I came in with my very young daughter because I shop here often and recalled they had a small refrigerator with drinks. We were really in need of water. I walked in and grabbed one. When I got to the counter, the woman wouldn’t sell it to me. She asked if I had cash, then told me “I’d really like to have a bigger purchase because it’ll charge us for such a small sale.”

Are you serious? I’m standing with my baby, sweating, and you want me to spend more money in your store, which we “used to” shop regularly in. I say “used to” because you’ve lost a customer over that water.

I was appalled at the fact that you were more worried about your bottom line than allowing an obviously hot parent and child grab a bottle of water and cool down.

You said “yeahhhh sorry” and let me go put the bottle back into the fridge and walk back outside sweating.

The same lady that’s always running the place every single time I’ve shopped there.

Shame on your morals.

The woman that runs this store is not only rude, but not very smart. If you want customers to enjoy their experience and purchase from you maybe try to be even just a tiny bit hospitable. I live and work in a resort town and we value our visitors. Something she obviously doesn't do. Don't judge Mt Dora by her. All the other shop owners I encountered were awesome 😀

It seems to me the woman that runs the store does not appreciate customers of all sizes. We were there with our inquisitive 4 year old who loves shopping, and usually buys something, because we can afford to do so. The woman told my daughter not to touch anything. We felt rushed...Then she closed the store for 15 min. I’ve seen her do this in another occasion to another group with kids.

😕What a shame! Our first visit to beautiful Mount Dora and this was unfortunately the first store we stoped in. It was rain like crazy, my daughter (7) was enjoying the store and all of the cool trinkets when out of nowhere the lady working the shop, whom I will refer to as the Wicked Witch of the West, was nasty and snarky with all of us. She followed my daughter around and took items out of her hand we wanted to purchase and was very short with me when I asked her about a cool item in her store. Subsequently, we put everything down and immediately left the store in the rain. 🙁

Second time in this store, woman who I believes owns it was completely rude. We were taking a picture of a few cups to find out which one to by for a relative, when not nicely asked to stop but, very rudely. Snarky, bitter, and lack of customer service to say the least. Luckily, everywhere else we went all staff was friendly and very nice. Second chance, not going back.

I have never been in a store with such terrible customer service. The woman, who i am assuming is the owner, has the most terrible manners. I brought people with me to do christmas shopping and immediately felt unwelcomed and that we were a bother to her. We took our business elsewhere and would not return.

Very rude owner! Ready to snap at paying customers!
