I deal with 7 counties in Georgia, pulling permits. 267 permits pulled in 2018. By far, the Gilmer County office is the most competent and streamlined of any county I deal with. The staff is the only planning and zoning location where they are versed on code compliance and you can get an immediate answer to your questions. Andrew and Matt are by far the best inspectors I have ever dealt with in my 30 years of being self employed. Kudos Gilmer County, you got this one right!!

They genuinely don't have a clue as to what they are doing. The Inspectors don't even know proper codes. Each inspector you have come out will give completely different suggestions/requirements from the other. And they all seem to be quite rude.

I have been dealing with a nightmare inspector in Gilmer County on my project and have attempted for weeks to contact everyone in the department without returned calls. The beginning of my building process had been almost seamless through every department, and I had nothing but wonderful things to say. Ever since this inspector walked on my site, he has sabotaged every part of my build, costing me thousands of dollars of unnecessary work as none of the requests he demanded, were in line with any existing building codes (said by independent inspectors), not to mention how incredibly rude and insulting he was with my wonderful builder. He demanded changes, then set foot back on the property, didn't document his visit or report a fail on the permit, allowed the project to continue, to then demand the walls be taken down. Looking at records and finding that there are many on my boat with him as the common link, is quite disturbing to say the least. Do better!

I'm. 60ac shy to move my dad on MY property. I purchased property and now am told I can't do what I want. I cant rezone because county water doesn't go that far (1 mile short). No hardship option, won't answer the phone, won't return calls and then when you go up there, it's forever to wait only to be told you can't do anything. Yet, they can build houses on top of each other AND right on the river all day long. Guess it depends on who you are. Thanks for nothing Gilmer county now my dad is homeless. Hate this county.

Want answer phone. Want return phone calls. It is like instead of wanting to help you, they try to figure out ways to stop you from doing anything.
