I have eaten at El Patio for years. I always eat the cheese enchiladas sometimes with rice and beans. The paper thin corn tortillas and chili con Carne and the "commodity" bring back memories of my youth.

I miss "Mama" Joseph and her girls but atmosphere is still Old Austin. The tortillas did not seem quite the same but the enchiladas were still excellent.

Thanks to the current manager I’ve been seeing there the atmosphere is great and it’s obvious that she has a good relationship with her coworkers which allows the restaurant to have a good atmosphere. The food is good but also depends on what you’re looking for and your taste. The service is good as well as long as they don’t get too distracted sometimes since it has been slow lately. The slowness is thanks to the low ratings that have been going on lately since the new owners took over but I say again it has been changing thanks to the manager.

We all decided we had not been here in 20 years and it was high time to come back. Nostalgia aside the food is still pretty good. Even better, in this age of food trends and corporate chains El Patio remains stable and local. Thankfully the menu was familiar. It reminded us all of Tex-Mex in the 70's. The portions are huge. Not pictured but recommended are the chicken enchiladas with guacamole on top. Drinks were powerful and the atmosphere just perfect. So glad we made it back and this time no waiting 20 years.

I’ve been a fan of El Patio for over 40 years and now my adult kids love it as well. The menu is basic and has been that way since the beginning. I love sour cream chicken enchiladas, but you won’t get them here. I love El Patio for what it is and it’s become a destination for my family every time we are in Austin. I am glad the family has continued the tradition and I’m willing to suffer a few “bumps in the road” to have it around.

We came into Austin for the day and had lunch here. Hands down best Mexican food I have had in Texas! Bruce was a terrific server so ask for him when you visit. He was super friendly and spot on with menu suggestions. Thanks Bruce. If we make it out to Austin again we will be sure to swing by. Your restaurant gm table from Florida.

The kind of Mexican food I grew up on. It’s different and there is a reason it’s been around for decades. Don’t be fooled by the simple menu, the flavors are there.

The food, service, and drinks are AMAZING. So much food for a good price. Even the salsa (which I’m usually not a fan of because not much effort is put in at some places) was delicious and I could tell they actually put effort into making it. All around amazing.

An Austin institution with old school Tex Mex. Funny to read the consistent reviews from the California Cockroaches and New Yorkers that hate the food. They don't get it. Just like they don't get anything else in life. I moved away from Austin due to the invasion of these folks but still love coming to El Patio occasionally and getting my fix. Thank you for keeping the Austin tradition alive.

Simple and cute lil place, staff was super friendly and helpful, food was really good. The queso and guacamole at happy hour is a must do with their chips! So glad we stopped in.

We stopped in here a while back and figured it was time for another visit this afternoon. Thank goodness we did because it was just what we were looking for! The hubbs and I enjoyed margaritas (well, rocks, salt), which were $6 each and excellent. We decided to try the "Crispy Tacos", which are served open faced, like a chalupa, on shells that are homemade daily. We opted for the Taco Supreme version - beef, lettuce, tomato, & guacamole. We got a full order of 3 at $11.50 and added cheese for 50 cents more. Following a basket of the best tortilla chips in Austin (the salsa was up there on the scale, too), we were both more than satisfied, and I only had one taco! Ceasar was our amazing bartender and floor manager and wonderful to chat with during our visit. Same as we said last time - we will be back!

This was as good as it's always been. The friendly waiters made eating there a great experience. When a place reopens especially during this covid time you aren't certain what to expect. No disappointments here.

I’ve discovered this place after doing an online search to find restaurants that serve or were noted for serving sherbet as part of their menu. After being seated, I asked to have sherbet brought out before the main meal. It was wonderful! The rest of the meal was just as good. Service was excellent and the place had a family atmosphere. There’s plenty of parking out front I am a Pisces recently seen driving along Guadalupe.

Old school Tex Mex. While others compete to be setting the latest hot trend in dishes, El Patio remains satisfied producing the old staple TexMex meals.

Good food, attentive friendly staff and an atmosphere that only can be achieved by serving thousands of people over the years, from the rich and popular to students to working folks.

Warm family vibe. Only a multigenerational legacy can create the feel of a place of this caliber. Will be bringing my family here.

Redemption. I've been a patron here for 45 years. Was disappointed in the food after ownership changed hands. Looks like they've worked out the food situation and everything is back to normal. Hole in the wall texmex at it's best.

Great family-friendly place! I spent Saturday's after church with my grandparents eating wonderful enchiladas. Great Memories and wonderful caring people work hard to ensure a quality experience.

It's my #1 go to when I have friends visit from out of town.

Great service except the you kid who took our drink order. I have asked about what kind of wine they offered and he had know clue what the difference between red or white was much less the name of the wines. Other than that it was a great experience. The food was wonderful and filling. We got there at 800 and even though they closed at 830 they did not rush use at all. After stuffing ourselves we went scootering around to work off all the food. What a great time.

Old Austin favorite for traditional Tex-Mex. Not the best queso, but everything else is great. David special is a favorite.
