Hen House Restaurant & Gift

It's my favorite stop for lunch when traveling to visit family in Southern IL. This old diner has been around since the 70's and kinda looks it, too. Don't let that scare you. The food is great and most of it seems home-cooked. We stopped on Sunday and the place was packed with mostly locals. We had to wait about 10 minutes but they serve quickly. (That was the first time we ever had to wait) My wife and I ordered the pot roast special and it was fantastic. It might be the best roast I've ever eaten as it wasn't dry at all. It was cheap, too. Their pies are great but we didn't have any room left in our tummies this time. I can't rate this restaurant any higher for what it is, an old-school diner.

The area is great and this place has amazing pancakes! The sausage omlette was grea also! If you go in early enough, you will need a table of guys who are so funny! Say hi to them for me from the lady trucker! Also to the Army Veteran, "Thanks for your service soldier! from the Sailor🫡

What an adorable place! Food was great! Everyone had something different and we all cleaned our plates. The staff were on it. Quick, cheerful, friendly, and attentive. The kid’s menu is a super great deal. All prices were great actually. Saving it to return on my trip back through.

Stopped in after not having been in a while. Great food at great prices with quick service. Just this one and the one in Mahomet are left. Got a tee shirt while I was there.

If you are looking for a restaurant that is small town friendly, servers that give as good as they get, and food that is wonderful; then Hen House Restaurant is going to be a wonderful experience. Ask for Jeannie or Connie, and order a hot cinnamon roll.

We stop here every time we pass thru. Always have to take along what we could not finish! My fish dinner this last visit was great!

The Hen House is a local favorite place for breakfast/brunch/lunch. The staff is polite and hard working while being friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Whether you are a local or traveling through, you will feel at home in this quaint barn shaped restaurant. While the inside hasn't been remodeled for decades, it is kept up and cleaned to the best of the staff's ability. The restaurant is kid friendly and wheel chair accessible so it is a place for everyone.
Daily specials and local favorites give you a large selection to choose from. Just make sure to get here before 3 because they don't serve dinner. Stop in for a cup of their freshly ground and brewed coffee, you won't be disappointed.

Visited on a whim for breakfast before the Arcola car show and was blown away. The place was packed but seat yourself with a few open tables. We sat and were greeted right away. The service was timely, no wait for drink or food, even tho she was clearly juggling multiple tables everything and everyone worked together. Food was delicious. I really enjoyed the biscuits and gravy!! Very family friendly, cozy private booths. We will be back, thank you!

Exceptional! Glad we stopped here. The folks running this place were all very nice. The food was great. All cooked just right. Typical breakfast for me, eggs, sausage, home fries and biscuit and gravy. A great find, in my opinion.
