My Sister's Place

If you’re in Grand Marais this is the place. Local flavor, excellent food, MN service, cool north shore vibe all wrapped up with being in the coolest (or at least very cold) area in MN. I recommend the juicy lucy stuffed cheese burgers. I got the Gouda and loved it. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

We visit Grand Marais several times a year and this was my first time to My Sister's Place. The atmosphere is perfect for the area. We had excellent service and the burgers were awesome. We were there New Year's eve in the afternoon and the only downside was it was the restaurant was very cold. Several customers had their jackets and hats on. We will go back on our next visit to Grand Marais.

For my review of My Sister’s Place I’m including a picture of an empty plate. That’s right, an empty dirty plate. Why would I do such a thing when so many other reviews have pictures of their meals before a bite was even taken, before the chef’s handiwork was distributed? Why you might ask. Why? Well, the answer is simple really. It’s because the food was so great (Granny burger if you must know) that I was too busy enjoying my meal to even consider disgracing it by taking my full attention away from it for even just one second. I fancy myself a bit of a burger aficionado. I’ve sampled burgers in the fanciest of restaurants in the biggest of cities to the most far flung hole in the wall greasy spoons in the middle of BFE. And through my adventures Ive had bad burgers, good burgers, and great burgers. Now I won’t say this is the greatest burger Ive ever had, but it is up there no doubt, easily in the top ten. The apple with the bacon was AMAZING! My taste buds were singing the songs of angles. The fries were cooked in the finest of oils with no hints of fish (quite common in the upper Midwest, especially during Lent), at a perfect temperature. And the beer was served cold and did its job quite well at washing everything down. Not only was the food amazing but our server was fantastic too. 10/10 would recommend My Sister’s Place and I will definitely eat here again next time I find myself in Grand Marais.

We dined on the patio, which was a very nice setup including a "backyard" area set up for kids to play while waiting - one of the most "family friendly" places we've been to. The food was good with reasonable sized portions, varied menu, and decent prices for a tourist town. We would dine here again.

This was by far the best dinner my daughter and I have had. We definitely had to wait but not long. We got a table on the heated outdoor patio which was very nice. The waitress was awesome and gave her opinions of different things to try. The burgers were fanominal, the soup and chili were also great! An cant go wrong with some cheese curds also. All in all a very nice place to go for dinner.

We stopped by here for lunch. They put us on the waiting list, and it took about 15 minutes to be seated. Which is fair during lunchtime. I like that they offer a little bit of everything from pizza to sandwiches to burgers and dinner items. We ordered cheese curds, poutine, and fried cheesy pickels to start with. All of them were delicious. Poutine is something you should try since it was a unique combination. Fried pickle is something I won't order again since the pickle inside was too big, so it was pretty cold, which is expected. I had a Smoky Gouda burger, and it was delicious. It had generous amounts of gouda cheese, and I liked it a lot. I also tried their pesto chicken, and it was also good. A very friendly gentleman named Milenko helped us. He was professional.

Awesome restaurant, very polite staff. Our server Kirsten was a doll. Friend and I stopped here on our drive through for work, I will definitely recommend anyone coming up to Grand Marais to stop by and at least try the Poutine.

I had the Bull Moose Burger; BBQ sauce was awesome and the burger was cooked perfectly. Buddy got a BBQ chicken pizza and it was ALSO super good.

The Juicy Lucy was delicious! They also have the best gluten free buns I have ever tasted! The atmosphere was interesting with lots to look at, old historic items and photos. I would definitely recommend it!

Good food, a little bit of a wait to eat. But worth it. I had the North Shore burger and it was yummy! We played corn hole on the patio while we waited for our food.

Great place with an eclectic menu. Had the cheese curds, cheese garlic bread, and pizza. Fantastic. All of it. Very nice server and hostess.

Tried their Fried Cheesy Pickle appetizer which is described as, “Dill pickle wrapped in Havarti cheese and egg roll Wrappers, fried and served with Siracha ranch”. Appreciated the originality and props for being tasty! Would get again for taste, but with hesitation at $9.00 - if they would double the quantity though for that price then not such an issue. Family friendly atmosphere with cabin flare, staff was kind and attentive.

We spent two evenings having dinner and had the most excellent service and food in a long time. I would suggest My Sister's Place to enjoy a Fantastic Dinner with Great Service. Thank You My Sister's Place.

This was our first trip to the north shore and we've been fairly disappointed with the food everywhere. My Sister's Place, however, was a shining light. The pizza is very good, the shore dog is outstanding and the waitstaff was very friendly. On our next trip to the north shore we will be regulars at My Sister's Place. Cheers!

2023: Updating this review to confirm that the service and food here has held up over time. We popped in for a late dinner after a long day of hiking and started with a fried pickle and havarti cheese appetizer that was interesting and good. Portion was small, but just fine for two people. For dinner, I tried the hot dog with wild rice and mozzarella and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it! Boyfriend ordered a burger with onion rings and received a HEAPING mound of thin, crispy rings that were really delicious. We finished by sharing a chocolate malt that was just as good as the one from 6 years ago. Once again a great experience and hopefully we'll be back faster this time around!

2017: We ordered garlic bread with mozzarella (good, but a little overpriced for adding cheese); a chocolate malt (delicious), the fish dinner (good); and the bacon and brie burger (amazing, can't say enough good things). Service was great- friendly and fast. Our bill was $50 (included a beer, too). Would definitely go back and would recommend to our family and friends!

My friends and I are up north for a cabin trip and tried this place for my friends birthday. It was such a positive experience. Great food. Wait around dinner time was about 20 minutes.

Fun place. Short staff, but our waiter was friendly... The host/hostess took quite awhile to even acknowledge our existence which could be frustrating, we were in a chill mood though. And as I said, short staffed it seemed.

The apps were great... We over ordered and loved every minute of it.

The food was awesome here and our waitress was great! Great sized portions!

I had the deepfried gizzard for an app and the meat lovers calzone and a Fulton Lonely Blonde and everything was delicious. The restaurant had a nice warming feeling to it with awesome history all over the walls. The service was excellent and fast. Ten out of ten would reccomend!
