Freshcoat is the best painting company I have had business with in my 29 years of living in New Jersey. This is a very professional company, thanks to James. The manager also works with his coworkers, in case of any questions or concerns, he is already there to assist you. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to get some professional, top notch painting done. If they had 6 stars I would rate them a 7. Great job James and the Freshcoat crew.

DO NOT USE. After biting my tounge for six months, I had to write this review before another homeowner wastes their money. We hired James when we bought our house in May 2017. We were initially thrilled he was in our budget and timeframe- but from that point forward it was a lot of problems. The painting crew stole two vintage towel racks from our bathroom, stole our shower curtain rod, used our shower curtain to tie up the wall paper they stripped off the walls, poured out their paint in our kitchen sink without rinsing it (my mom spent 2 hours of move in day scrubbing it out), and broke our blinds. On top of all that, the paint job itself was NOT professional. They didn't bother using painter's tape, so none of the edges or trim are neat. In fairness, James came back to fix the worst of it, but he gave my husband an attitude the whole time. However, it hasn't even been a year and the paint is peeling off the wall!

Run away! Completely concur with the other 2 bad review here and based on the fact he posted on Facebook, I believe, 5-star self-review, the good reviews here are also being done either by him or connected/related people.

I was "forced" to use him as I was required to scrape-paint the house we were buying as a condition of getting a CO from the city and a mortgage. Seller refused to do anything allowing us to paint but required a contractor to be fully insured. Here James came, insured and with a warranty... "We will do a beautiful job, you will be extremely happy". "End of December, cold?" - no worries, as long as above freezing... We ended up waiting for a warm temps as I managed to work out conditional CTO and mortgage due to a bad weather...

My greatest mistake was to stick with him afterward, although I had people who agreed to do it for half-price ... I decided, they are too busy with inside renovation... And James said they are not professionals unlike us, wont use right materials and do as beatiful job for half-price as us....

Finished painting 5 months later, in May. Either too cold, or suddenly needed above 50 temps, or raining, but mostly, - just irregular(weeks passed with no showing up) and very slow(little time put when did come) work. Badly sanded(if at all), terrible trim/wood work, left some trim either missing or not sealed properly... In less than 2 months the paint started to bubble out and peel off and now it looks terrible, all house is peeling off and bubbling out. Well, now those "not professionals" saying he used wrong materials...

We even got an inside leak due to suspected trim left unsealed. Which he, of course, immediately ridiculed upon hearing, - "how is it possible to get leak inside because of exterior painting?!!" Sure it is possible, if you leave wholes in siding or trim(unsealed or cracked)!...

For the last 3 months I has been trying to get it all fixed... completely unresponsive. Came alone once and tried just scraped a little paint over... I happened to be home so when I confronted him and told it was not acceptable way of fixing... he left "to get a sanding machine" and never came back since...

All that warranty worth zero if it is not honored.

Another December is coming ...

And, btw, they took my contractor's ladder and never admitted and/returned. First I thought, it was a mistake, now, after I read the other review mentioning stolen items, I'm pretty sure they stole the ladder.

I complained to the main company, will see how this will be handled.

If you are in Morristown, NJ area, - run away from him!!!!

Here I am, 4 years later, with this franchise closed after my complain, I still have my house not fixed as main company pretty much now refuses to fulfill its own promises and warranty obligations, ghosted me out completely.

I’m updating just to let ppl know to be extra careful with them, do not assume that you are safe with the warranty, make sure you got an honest guy who will do all stated in the contract and warranty, because, if not, and guy disappears as in my case, main company would not honor anything, while promising and trying to fool you all the way.

Super disappointing.

We hired James and he sold us on his quality and the warranty we purchased. We bought the most expensive paint and it’s peeling all over, missed areas, didn’t prep or sand properly, and got paint all over our windows and slate roof. He has no staff and we been trying to get him for more than 9 months. Use someone else he is selling these warranties that he doesn’t honor. Use someone else.
