The service and food were really good. The restaurant itself seems quaint but if you take a walk around it's really big! The food took between 10-15 minutes to come out but it was fresh and HOT. I had El Matador and the wifey had cheese enchiladas. I appreciated the classic rice and beans that didn't have a weird twist to them that you get other places. Overall it was just what I was looking for.

This has been a local favorite for well over a decade! Great food and friendly service. Even when busy we still get our food in a very reasonable time.
The nachos supreme are amazing!!!!! Heaping piles of meat, cheese and guacamole.
It is an appetizer and it's HUGE!
If you plan to eat this for your main meal, it can feed 3-5 people easily. - so be warned, it's a lot of food. But it's absolutely delicious and worth getting!
Their chimichanga, burritos and other main dishes also taste fantastic.

Super yummy place! It’s been around forever. I recommend the cheese enchilada with the shredded beef enchilada! The salsa is sooo good!!! Expect to wait about 25 minutes to be seated but it’s worth it! You get so much food and you won’t be able to finish.

This is our go to place for a filling meal. I get the Vera Cruz. It has two breaded shrimp that are good size. They have got smaller over the years. It is still my fav. My wife gets the el Matador all the time. We really need to branch out. I love the salsa here. Service is good as long as it is not supper busy. I highly recommend this place.

My dad said he used to come here when he was in high school thirty years ago. The decor is cool, the servers were very nice, and the food was yummy. They gave us sopapillas and they were delicious. My dad always gets the fried shrimp platter. I got the chimichangas. Things on the menu were around $10-15 which is very affordable for a dine-in restaurant!

My partner loves Mexican food, so since we were just at Ogden Contemporary Arts at The Monarch, we decided to walk over. He loved his taco/enchilada/tostada combo, especially the enchilada sauce, and the chicken salad was a great "healthier" option for me (I avoided the sour cream and cheese). I had the oil and vinegar dressing, which was herbed and delicious, and the chicken was shredded and flavorful. And it came in a tortilla shell like the taco salad! Friendly server. Nice experience. Great prices.

We were pleasantly surprised at how good this food is. Probably the best Mexican restaurant in Ogden thus far. And the service was wonderful. Our waitress (MamaG) was so kind and sweet. Made us feel right at home. This will be our new Go To Mexican food restaurant

Good food! The chips were better than the tostada shell so I ate it with them. But it was good!!!

We first tasted the great Mexican food at El Matador in the 1970’s and loved the vibe, the service and the homemade food. Fast forward 40 years and we find ourselves in Ogden looking for lunch and to our surprise the Original El Matador is still alive and kicking. Almost noting had changed, same building, same interior, same great food and the same great waitress, Arlene, who has worked at El Matador for over 40 years. Arlene provided terrific service from start to finish. She started us off with an El Matador tradition, warmed salsa with cheese; a combination you likely have never seen at any other Mexican restaurant, but it is delicious. Most of the menu items maintain their original names and serving sizes are as ginormous as we remembered. The real kicker is that their prices are still a bargain, especially compared to other Mexican fare nearby. We ordered the Chile Verde Burrito, Chicken Burrito and the El Paso combination that includes a Black Angus Steak Burrito. All just as delicious as we remembered. As far as cleanliness is concerned, the establishment was spotless, including the bathrooms.
Does El Matador serve the best Mexican food we have ever tasted? No, but what we have discovered is that what El Matador provides is remarkably consistent, delicious, and we still love it

This place was my first experience in solid "earthy, Tex-mex" food. 1976 . My friend took me to the El Matador and I fell in love with this place! Well, 40 years later and the love affair continues!

Really is a pretty much perfect Mexican restaurant. Good bar service, beautiful ambiance, responsive servers, and of course great food. Can get really, really packed, but I can't fault the resturaunt for that, it's a great place to go for higher-end Mexican dining, so of course it's gained a reputation. (I took a couple bites before I took the photo haha, it came to me looking stunning. Big portions!)

Good place for Mexican food, every time I have been here it has been busy but I have always had a great experience. Dont forget to tip your server, $2 an hour = no paycheck, just tips, they also have to pay taxes on a percentage of your bill so dont make them pay to wait on you!

I love El Matador. If you haven't tried it yet you should. The chips and salsa are super good. They have delicious jumbo fried shrimp as well. I got the beef chimichanga.

I've been here every year for my birthday. Literally every year. I love it so much. The food has always been amazing. The service is top notch. Our server tonight was exceptional! I don't remember his name but he had pastel hair. He was an amazing worker!

I admittedly walked in with a snotty attitude expecting the same underwhelming half hearted tex-mex you find everywhere. but no. not here.

The relleno and chicken enchiladas and green chili burrito were SOOO good. They serve giant portions and we ate until we were bursting at the seams.

The service was wonderful, our server was funny and helpful and charming.

we live about an hour away and the food was good enough that id make the trip just to eat here again

Great and authentic Hispanic food, love the whole vibe of the restaurant! Food is delicious and filling. Also amazing that they now have a take out option. Makes it a fun night out or a nice night in.
Employees are very tentative with getting orders in and refills going. As stated before the food is amazing and will have leaving full. 5 stars

I was born in the 80's and have been coming here my whole life. It's my very favorite restaurant & by far the best Mexican food in the area. The salsa is to die for! I like that they offer a side of cheese with it. Most places don't that serve chips and salsa. A couple of years ago I became aware that they serve the same 2 lunch specials everyday. It comes with a lot of food and what I would be ordering anyway plus more at a decent price. Never disappointed and make it a point to come as often as possible.
