It was cool and rainy, but we enjoy walking near the James anyway.

Picked up the trail at Ancarrow Landing & headed to the flood wall trail & then back through the city to Ancarrow Landing. It was a beautiful low humidity late August day. Perfect hike with friends, lots of informational signage along the way. Lots of options to take different trails & explore other parts of the city. Starts in the woods but we wound through urban areas too. Great beginner level hike with multiple terrain types- covered 4+ miles, but could be lengthened or shortened

I had to come represent for my ancestors. Where is my 40acres and a mule/now I want a horse??? It's sad they had to run just to live, I'm so very sad😔 I can't believe this was life for African Americans. Thank you Harriet Tubman for your bravery🤗🇺🇸✊🏾

Experience the path that thousands of Africans struggled chained together, after a long voyage with terrible conditions, ripped from their families not knowing their futures. Imagine the grunts and groans struggling to walk and the hoofbeats of their captors on horses with whips as they move closer to slavery..

Wonderful quiet trail. Very thought provoking and tranquil as you walk in the sorrowful footsteps created by slavery in the USA

Incredibly important piece of history. Highly recommend this if you're in Richmond. The beginning and end were easy to follow, the middle was a bit difficult. The half on the river was a nice hike with insightful information.

Lots of history. Plenty of parking with a boat landing. Trails and beautiful river views.

Powerful. Moving. Unfortunately we went when it was too cold, and we had children with us, so we weren't able to complete all of it. However, what we saw made quite an impact. We're glad we went and will go again.

Every African American should visit this place. You can almost feel the energy of the ancestors who walked from this place when they were taken off of slave ships in Richmond. The park that is attached to this trail would be a great place to read write and just commune with your ancestors. Take your kids there for a comprehensive look at what slaves had to endure upon arriving from Africa. You can also see evidence of iron works still in the ground from where the ships used to dock or hold their cargo. If you would like to learn something about African American slavery I would definitely suggest visiting this location.

Look we preserve the past for a reason. There is no pride in the slave history of this country but the slave trail offers a very nice walk that also offers you knowledge of our past that might be hard to swallow but if it opens minds and hearts its a perfect day.

Good view of the James....good history lesson and how we shouldn't treat people.

Must experience to understand our roots and culture. To understand the journey our ancestors made. I literally had chills walking knowing that this walk was made by our ancestors in shackles, neck restraints and no shoes.

The elegba folklore Society stages Juneteenth celebration here at the Manchester docks every year.

Many participants walk-in a coffle from the docks all the way to the slave burial ground near lumpkin's jail.

I serve as the driver along the trail.

It's a powerful experience for the participants as well as for me.

It doesn't take a lot of imagination to know how devastating it must have been to offload a slave ship and walk in the dark chained to one another.
